She rides!

Put about 50 miles on her yesterday.

Then my headlight burnt out.

New mod completed

Had an idea on exhaust. I'm a do-it-yourself kind of guy. I'll work with what ever supplies/items I got. So.....

I took one of the stock mufflers. Cut it down to 12" so now it's a megaphone style tip pretty much. I will make a 2-1 collector, weld it up.

Using the original tab for the muffler to mount. Should work pretty good IMO

For sure. I need to do another re-jet. I can go one more up and should be set on the Main, didn't change my Pilot yet, but got 1 more up on that to throw in.

After that it should run great. Ride-able now just a tad lean.

Hopefully it will go farther than last year. Didn't try to hard then to get people togetjer

Do you know a lot of guys with Vintage bikes? I could try and contact some of the old 2 stroke guys.

While waiting on my jets I started cleaning and re-polishing some tid bits.

First round of sanding and polishing. Several more steps to go possibly. Still need to sand/wet sand to get the fine scratches out

Yeah how loud is that without any baffles? I wanted baffles for my bike bad, mine was too damn loud

Not sure yet. I have yet to run it with the tips added to the pipes. I'll let you guys know the sound with a video when I get it running again.

I go back and forth on it. Days I enjoy it and days I wish it was stock. For grins I make-shift clamped the stock mufflers on before I hacked them and it was quuuuuuuuite.

Spending 30 minutes or a little more, cannot get much accomplished. I have a bag full of jets from Z1 Enterprise. This weekend I'll be able to re-jet in my sleep.

I started out not going to be picky. But now I am finding myself trying to get the best out of the CV 36's

How are the plugs looking? Post some pics of one of the plug chops you have done. It can't be that much different than stock maybe 1 or 2 sizes bigger on the main jet?

BTW CV carbs suck.

Got it back together Sunday, while installing the tank and my fuel line with in-line filter. Guess I arranged or moved the line just the right way and the nipple broke off the filter in the hose.

I'll pick one up today or tomorrow.

A plug chop is done to see if your jetting is correct of it you are running lean or rich.

Its Looking good man. makes me wanna get my 550 done. have you thought about building a rear cowl section to cover the rear portion of the seat? it could act as a "no hoe" but still give that vintage cafe look. just a thought. Looks good the way it sits though.

Thanks. For what I put into a free bike and on a married man's budget. I got the look I was going for. I do plan on either getting a 70's KZ400 rear cowl or finishing my super slim seat. Either way it's still decent to look at and a blast to ride.

I may end up selling this and getting a different platform to work off of. Not sure yet.

Nah, don't sell it, stick with the kz.... There's too many damn XS's around this town, it's good to have something different. If I ever get rid of mine, it will be to step up to a bigger Kaw, like a 900 or 1000

It would be another KZ in a form of a 650-1100. Or shoot, I may just pick one up anyway. Plan is to get one of those and throw on some GSXR or R1 forks on it.

That looks really good. and honestly, I've wanted to do the exact same thing with my next bike. Ninjas front forks, brakes and wheels on the front, and a ninjas swingarm out back with its wheel and tire.... they look pretty cool.

If you don't know already. There is a little shop or should I just say a guy who will do all the machine work, what ever it takes to adapt a modern front fork system on an older vintage jap bike.

Instead, we feel that our triple tree swap/exchange is the best of all worlds and is the safest, most hassle-free way of getting the job done. In short, it's the simplest way to do something that is doggone complicated.

This service covers literally thousands of potential swap combinations, allowing you to put almost any modern inverted (USD) sport bike or motocross-style fork on your older bike. You'll be bolting on decades worth of suspension and braking improvements in no time.

And your trusty motorbike will be rockin' a decidedly Classified Moto look. Yes, indeed.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS. After obtaining a modern front end (we get ours from salvage yards and off eBay from highly rated sellers) you will need to send us the following items:

1. Your bike's lower triple tree (the part with the stem in it)
2. Your new front end's lower triple tree
3. Your new front end's upper triple tree yoke

That's it. There's no need to send fork tubes, brakes, controls or any other bits that might have come with your new front end. (The only possible exception is bearings. See below.)

All parts must be in good shape, with no damage to components or threads. Pack them extra carefully so there's no metal on metal action. All common sense stuff here. You should be able to send everything to us Priority Mail Flat rate for under $20.

We will then do our hocus pocus and return to you a set of hybrid triples ready to bolt on to your bike.

BEARINGS: Your new hybrid triples will require roller-style bearings made to fit YOUR BIKE, not your new front end. With any luck, we'll be carrying roller bearings very soon. They'll most likely be All-Balls-brand upgrade kits. In the meantime, if you purchase a set from a third party and want us to press the lower bearing onto your stem, we'll do it free of charge. Just be sure to include them in the package.

TIMING: We're usually able to turn these around pretty quickly, but depending on workload, it can take up to three weeks. In those rare, emergency front end swap situations, we can arrange for a rush order for additional charges.

I have thought about doing a modern front and and swingarm swap on the RZ, but the bike does more than I can handle right now.

This bike is BA. I like these kind of bikes where its an older bike at heart, but they have updated look to them. I also like the vintage bike look.
