![]() On two occassions I have put my two weeks into my boss for when I found a job, and those two times he gave me a raise, one from 9 a hour to 11 a hour. Second time went from 11 a hour to "18 a hour" I know he under pays me(300 a week which hasn't changed since I have worked with him, and on top of that I will be lucky if I got paid weekly), over works me. I work more than 40 hours a week. If I am lucky I get the weekends off. I am sick of this work, and want to be done with it once and for all.
I am looking around, but probably end up doing retail work, but I am also attending jccc, and looking for a job that is flexible with college kids. I am good with computers, hardware and software. I am familiar with Windows, and ubuntu/debian based OS, I lack experience with OS X which to my understanding uses similar environment with linux. I don't have any certificates or degrees unfortunately. I am working towards my bachelors in egineering then going for my masters. I did work at home for little bit, kept running into problems one way or another. Like I said I will probably end up just doing retail business in my current situation. Let me know if there is anything out there. Last edited by BlitzKrieg; 2015-07-16 at 10:49 PM.. |

![]() Have you tried some side hustles between Classes?
Mowing lawns painting house numbers on curbs pressure washing driveways fixing cars for people clearing out brush carpet cleaning http://julliengordon.com/50-side-hus...for-50-or-less National guard might also be a great option for you. |

![]() I would think even figuring in the driving expenses, it would be much more than $300/wk.

![]() The medical software industry is a great place to be. I work in the industry (we don't compete with Cerner, but it's medical software). There is pretty good money to be made, and it's a stable industry.
Also, FWIW, my company has a few people with zero college education, some that only have GEDs. |

![]() The car has to be a 2005 or newer....
Or you can rent one. I saw a guy last weekend in a enterprise vehicle that you can rent by the hour. https://www.enterprisecarshare.com/us/en/home.html |

![]() the cost of renting the car, plus gas, etc. probably wouldn't make the pay worth it. I have heard that Uber in general isn't that profitable unless you outright own the car, because when you factor in a car payment, the actual net profit is negligible. When factoring RENTING a car to drive for Uber, I bet it would pretty much be a wash.

![]() That is just what I have heard; I don't actually drive. What hours do you work and location, out of curiosity? That sounds like one of the bigger variables when it comes to pay grade.

![]() I only drive 5 hours on Friday and Sat Nights. In Lawrence or Topeka. Its slow sometimes with 20-30 minutes between ride requests other times I get another ride request 30 seconds after a drop off. Comes out to $15hr after gas + maintenance costs (10 cents a mile). $20-$25hr before expenses.
EVERY other driver tells me how profitable Kansas City area is. They make roughly double what I make doing it. I'm not willing to drive that far from home though. Market is getting a lot more drivers for the past two weeks but not enough to make me stop. (YET) (If anyone wants to try it let me know. I have a Promo Code.)

But, I am being realistic where I do not have the money to rent a vehicle for the day especially if its 40 dollars. Like I have said I would have go to coinstar to cash in my change jar just to have money that should tell you how poor/shitty I get paid. I remedied that by getting a job at JCCC (closer to work), and finally selling my jeep and getting rust bucket gas saver since my (former) line of work and my gas guzzling (former) jeep did not mix well. |

![]() By contracting work, I'm assuming you mean 1099? I recently ran into an issue where I worked for a few months helping a guy establish a used car dealership...after a few months of working for no wage and driving from Lawrence to KC (to lock down what I thought was a great opportunity and to help the business get off the ground) i asked to start being paid a base $500/week for 60+ hours with work including but not limited to sales, detailing, buying at auction, basically the ins and outs of the car business, with a back end pay of 15-20% commission on sales profits, dependent on monthly volume. I advised the guy on what steps to take to obtain his dealer license, how to obtain a floor-plan, what cars to deal in, necessary sales paperwork and how to fill it out, etc. etc. etc....
After receiving his dealers license (about 3 weeks ago) he refused to take any advice I had to offer and suddenly claimed he couldn't have a "20 year old kid making business decisions". on the 2nd week of the business being "open", I was told there was no way he could afford to pay even the $500/week he had agreed to because we hadn't sold a car yet....on the second week....after only allowing me to place 4 craigslist ads for a total of $20 (I was told this the day after moving from Lawrence to KC to be closer to the job). Obviously it appears I've been taken advantage of... throughout the whole process I had a nagging voice in my head telling me to get the pay plan in writing but I neglected to do so out of a fear of coming off as being presumptuous. I guess I learned that lesson the hard way and that's my experience with 1099 contractor pay so far in my 23 years haha..... That being said...I do enjoy selling cars and everything that comes with it...Anyone hiring in the car business?? |

![]() Thought I would update this thread.
I just got done with a weekend of driving for uber. 11 hours online $450 in net income. used one tank of fuel. I know you can do it too. It doesn't have to be uber but if you hustle on the side you can make a decent income to suppliment your day job. |
