![]() Over the past 28 days (had to be under 30 of the Army would owe me more money) I was out of the country for Army Training in Germany. I have many others besides the ones posted here, if we are friends on FB they are in an album
![]() While in Germany I was able to go to a Nazi "work camp" that was in Flossenbürg Germany. You can read about it here if you want to : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flosse...entration_camp I have always been into history and especially WWII history and Germany because of my background and family. Here are a couple pics of the camp, there are some "then vs now" The Germans that lived in the city where the camp is located obviously denied any knowledge of what was going on when the Americans liberated and in typical German fashion they are quick to was to erase their past (pics of the old barracks vs new modern housing) I also got to go to the castle that was near by, it has been there since the 900s ![]() Camp Barracks ![]() Today ![]() ![]() ![]() The "slabs" on the ground represent building foundations from the camp, the white pickets are representation of the old fencing around ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (NAZI Camp locations) Main and "sub camps" ![]() Camp wash room (about 95% original) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In one of the buildings on the camp that has been converted into a museum they have put together from the Nazi records (they were very meticulous about record keeping) the names of the prisoners of the camp. This was the most sobering part of the trip for me. I am German/Russian so I have a fairly decent grasp on my heritage, but flipping through a book and seeing your last name 11 times (for this 1 camp) was eye opening, now I am not 100% sure if I am related to anyone but I am trying to find out if there is a connection. ![]() ![]() |
