Shit already in the mail: Sato type 2 rear sets, tungsten bar ends, RC2 levers, a slipper clutch and a bag that clips in where the passenger seat goes (already pulled the passenger pegs and seat and put in the mono cowl, came with both).

I was looking Japanese but they were all soulless sewing machines compared to the MV and it wasn't going to be just a track bike. And this one comes with the race controller, quick shifter, racing traction control and can record telemetry.

Got my Bursig stand for it. So now both the MV and the Duc are on them. Love these things. Gets the whole bike off the ground in 30 seconds and can be wheeled around on casters, used it to get the wheels off to put on the new Power RS tires:

Then got a nice package from Japan. Super grippy pegs and tons of adjustment. These are a little pricey but they are one of the few that integrate the brake lever on a bearing into the rearset, adding a machined linkage to really tighten up the rear brake. Also means you can change the throw of both the shifter and the brake.

I wish I had the balls to buy a bike. I know I would love it. As a single dad and pretty much the sole provider I am terrified of being taken out by some asshat motorist not paying attention.

Well, if its any consolation Im statistically more likely to kill myself on the damned thing than being killed by someone. Most are single vehicle crashes. Being said that is the general statistic, Im an old fart so my risks go down a lot. Its usually the young pups smearing themselves all over the road. 43% of fatalities involve alcohol. Nearly a 3rd arent even licensed.

Being old, taking classes, riding with experienced riders (aka good, not just douchebags that have ridden for a while) and a few basic precautions can really help your numbers.

The other option is to "take it to the track." Its like marrying a retired pornstar (the ONE well-adjusted one). You know she is clean and safe but its "no holds barred (within reason of course)." Riding on a track the most thrilling time Ive had that doesn't come with a risk of pregnancy.

Edit: honestly EVERYONE should hit a track day no matter what. Even a Harley rider. Things I learned on the track have absolutely made me safer on the street.

It’ll change your life. It’s such an intimate experience with a machine that driving could never give.

However, I’d likely do the same if I was the only provider for my family.

If the bug bites then it will definitely ruin cars. To get the performance you can get out of a sub 20k bike out of a car youre looking at spending $400k+ and it might not even give you the thrill because most supersports arent in your FOV when riding and modern helmets have such a massive viewport that you feel like you are flying a few feet above the ground.

Did the brake side. This one deletes the factory brake lever system and directly mounts using their own linkage. Then it has an integrated brake lever on a sealed bearing system. Considerably more positive braking feel for the rear and the nice thing is there are options for adjusting the "throw" as well (aka how far you push for X amount of braking force). Already fit it with the race boots on and I love that I got the pin in the exact spot under the ball of my foot when the heel of the boot catches the peg, virtually no chance of missing it.

I waited way too long for the same reason. I finally said fuck it in 2015. The only thing I've regretted is waiting so long to finally do it. As Ryan mentioned, being older helps us to control ourselves a bit more I think. I'm probably a couple years older than you. If I had a bike as a young guy, it's more likely that I wouldn't be here today. I'm not saying no young person should buy a bike but remembering some of the dumb stuff I did in cars back then... well ya know.

Yeah likely its because I have two superbikes, I definitely wouldn't put the GS I rented in Italy over having a fast car.

Honestly if I were back in Kansas/Missouri Id either rock a cruiser or still wouldn't have a road legal bike. The value of a bike goes up the curvier the road gets. I didn't buy a street bike until I moved to GA because of our roads and mountains.

If you do shop definitely check out Moto Guzzi and/or Indian over Harley. Both innovated well before Harley even considered innovating, so their models are superior in almost any other way other than having millions of costume options.

The Power RSs held up quite well. Not too hot out. They warm up really quickly, not a bad choice for people who run without tire warmers.

And in Ducati fashion I left an exhaust heat-shield bolt somewhere on the track.

Little late on this one, an event from a month ago. Barber Motorsports Park. One of the more beautiful tracks in the US, guy is a billionaire who just built it for the fun of it. Its a museum with like a thousand bikes, GP to the first Harleys. If you like bikes and find yourself near Birmingham you have to stop by (budget 3 hours for the museum though, its pretty big)

Spent most of the time on my Ducati but it was an event sponsored by Aprilia so I got to flog on of their RSV4 Factory bikes, 217HP and all of the bells and whistles. Anyone wanna loan me $24k?

Oh and here is my rig. E91 3 series, Execuhitch and a Kendon SLR fold-up trailer (these are great, folds up onto casters and slides up against the wall. Dont let anyone tell you that you need a truck. People in Europe tow boats with cars, a puny little sportbike and a naked trailer weighs less than a few dudes and some luggage.

I fit my overnight bag, tool box, a box fan, 10x10 pop-up, Yeti, all my riding gear and TWO stands (the Bursig and the FG rear stands) and still have the passenger seat free. A little better organization and Ill have room for a 2000w generator (so I dont have to rely on renting power or a buddy for juice).

Car doesnt do shit on the way. Done a 4 hour trip with no evidence that Im hauling save for taking a little longer to get to 80 than usual and the occasional "click" from the slight play from the hitch to the ball when going over a big bump (well that and the bike looking like a murderous OWL staring in the back window).
