![]() Bought a 98 Prelude with a bad H22A4 in it, came in pieces and with an H22A block, pistons and other misc pieces.. Never built an engine, words of advice, dos-an-donts, tips, etc. would be very helpful.. I have pictures of everything I have if interested.. Basically, I just want to know is it worth the trouble, should i just get a built one and throw it in or is actually possible to puzzle piece this one together..?? TIA

![]() H22A block is closed deck, A4 is open deck. As far as I know, that's the only difference. Should bolt right up, no problem. The JDM block is stronger than the A4.
If the bottom end is torn apart, I'd recommend having a machine shop hone the cylinders, inspect everything, assemble the rotating assembly for you. If the engine is bad, have them inspect the head too. It's a few hundred bucks, but super worth it to have piece of mind, IMO. Vee Village in KCMO is a top notch shop, highly recommend them. Putting the rest together is just turning bolts and following proper process and torquing to spec. Putting an engine together isn't too hard... I say go for it! |

![]() Thank you Keboh! I appreciate the words of advice and recommendations! Very excited for this build and i'm 100% with what you said, will have the H22A block machined and all the extra precautions. Want this to be a mean machine that will last me! Thanks again!
