Default Window Tint Heads Up

Been awhile since I did this but this is a heads up to you guys about things going on in local enforcement.

I warned everyone about a year ago Tint Meters were being purchased around the metro.

The meters cost between $125 and $200. The tickets under STO section 181 cost between $110 and $160 depending on what city you are in when you get stopped.

There are no exemptions for any window on your vehicle or even factory tint levels below 35%.

Be safe guys.

Wait, so if our OEM windows just happen to meter below 35%, we could get a ticket for that? Who makes this shit up?

they can issue a ticket but it wont hold up in court... windows tinted from the factory are exempt from tint laws.

I thought the back of your car can be as dark as possible. The front has to be 15-20% at the most ?

in ks the driver and pass cant be darker then 35% and you cant go over the back factory tint. in mo the driver and pass cant be darker then 35% but the back can be as dark as you want.

KS. As I read it, factory tint (where the glass is actually tinted, not just a film) is legal, as it does not fit the definition of a "sun screening device".

http://kslegislature.org/li/statute/...8_017_0049a_k/
Quote:
8-1749a. One-way glass and sun screening devices; requirements; exceptions; penalties. (a) No motor vehicle required to be registered in this state and which is operated on the highways of this state shall be equipped with one-way glass or any sun screening device, as defined in K.S.A. 8-1749b, and amendments thereto, and used in conjunction with windshields, side wings, side windows or rear windows that do not meet the following requirements:
(1) A sun screening device when used in conjunction with the windshield shall be nonreflective and shall not be red, yellow or amber in color. A sun screening device shall be used only along the top of the windshield and shall not extend downward beyond the AS1 line which is clearly defined and marked;
(2) a sun screening device when used in conjunction with the side wings or side windows located at the immediate right and left of the driver, the side windows behind the driver and the rear most window shall be nonreflective; and
(3) the total light transmission shall not be less than 35% when a sun screening device is used in conjunction with other existing sun screening devices.
(b) Subsection (a)(3) shall not apply to a window of a law enforcement motor vehicle that is clearly identified as such by words or other symbols on the outside of the vehicle.
(c) The superintendent of the highway patrol may adopt such rules and regulations necessary to carry out the provisions of this section.
(d) This section shall not prohibit labels, stickers or other informational signs that are required or permitted by state law.
(e) No motor vehicle required to be registered in this state which is operated on the highways of this state shall be equipped with head lamps which are covered with any sun screening device, adhesive film or other glaze or application which, when such lamps are not in operation, is highly reflective or otherwise nontransparent.
(f) Any person convicted of violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

(b) "light transmission" means the ratio of the amount of total light to pass through a product or material including any safety glazing material to the amount of the total light falling on the product or material and the glazing;
(c) "luminous reflectants" means the ratio of the amount of total light that is reflected outward by the product or material to the amount of the total light falling on the product or material;

Old thread but which metro? I'm fucked if anyone in KS got the meters. Today I put 20% on the rear one of my cars since I did 20% on the other and it wasn't dark at all. My luck it looks like 5% I guess it's the way the windows are angled. Same tint even. I'm sticking to 35% on the fronts and rears maybe I'll squeak by.

almost all metro agencies have meters... ks state troopers have the clamp meter where they can test back windows.

Probably one of the dumbest reasons to give out tickets since 99% of the time it isnt dangerous. Oh well.. taxes cant pay for everything . Guess cops gotta be safe too.

I'm running 18% Suntek Carbon XP on all my windows, and have had zero problems. I have passed many cops who didn't even give me a second glance. So either they don't care or they focus on the type of car rather than the tint.

If a car comes from the factory with tint below 35% and you get a ticket, that is some bullshit . Just another way for them to suck some more money out of people. A lot of my friends have had tint tickets. All you have to do is find another car like yours that doesn't have tint and take a pic of it to show the courts. Shit works lol.

no cars come with factory tint... only suv's...trucks... and mini vans do.... vehicles with factory tint are exempt from tint laws on the windows that are tinted from the factory.

I hear some states are now trying to enforce their tint laws on vehicles registered in a different state. Not sure on legality of that. I still remember when Mission PD pulled me over for tint (that was in the back and doubt it was less than 35%) then realized my temp tag was from Missouri and that he couldn't do anything. He was a prick about it.

I had a walmart employee ask about my tint a couple weeks ago. He was jealous, because he said he had just gotten pulled over the other day by a state trooper, who made him peel his tint off. I actually knew State Troopers do that, cuz when he said "he made me peel it off", I asked "was it a state trooper?" He was a cool guy tho.

technically you are breaking ks law if ur vehicle is darker then what the state allows.. even if ur registered in another state.. you are still breaking that states law.... its all about the $$$$$$
