Default Picked up a little project, V12 inside.

I recently picked up this 1995 Mercedes SL600. The previous owner was a customer of mine when I worked at MBKC. I had tried to buy it from him before, but he was never ready to sell. The car finally needed too much work for the little he drives it so he called and asked if I still wanted it.

The car has 51k miles and apart from the front and rear bumpers needing some love and some PDR the body is in excellent shape. Engine and trans are in excellent shape too. Apart from some wear in the drivers bolster, drivers door speaker grill being cracked and the headliner dropping on the removable hard top the interior is in excellent shape. The folding soft top is in excellent shape. Now the hydraulic top cylinders, hydraulic suspension vlave are the big issues that need fixed. Both are easily rebuilt for a fraction of what it would cost to replace the parts, and I have no issues removing and installing the parts. Once I have the mechanical repairs completed ill move onto bumpers and getting my hands on some AMG wheels for the car. Then maybe straight piping the exhaust because Pagani. This is how she sits now but in the garage, a little dirty. And yes the K&N filter and stickers will be removed.

I little history on the car. It was purchased new at Bevery Hills MB by Bijan, the same designer who has the yellow and black Bugatti Veyron in front of his store on Rodeo Drive. I had a friend (Mr. Cooley) message Bijan's son Nicholas about the car, but he could not remember it so I cannot confirm if it was driven by Bijan himself.

I will update this as I tackle some of the projects. Should be a fun toy when done!

Down side is the 190e 2.3 16v I bought as a project will have to be sold to fund the SL repairs.

Are you a MB tech?

I'd rock it, but I'm a sucker for old benzo droptops.

No, but was a service adviser at MBKC for 8 years. I know my way around them pretty well and have some fierce Google search abilities.

Nice pickup!!

That thing looks like fun if my quick google search was right at 39xhp and 4xxtq.

Agreed on the headers and exhaust

Pretty clean!

The under hood shot of that is terrifying.

Yes it does. The $8k+ for headers is not really in the budget.

1984 190e. 2.3-16v It is a very early production car. They only made 20k world wide from 1984 - 1993 and only ~2200 in 84. This is a Euro model MB did not sell them in the US until 1986. The values have been going up quite a bit recently, they are following the E30 M3. Pristine low mileage ones go for $30k+, nice drivers are in the mid teens, so I will shoot for the moon and ask $8k for this one. I may even see if I can get it on Bring a Trailer. This car was hit hard in the back at some point and the repairs and paint were not very well done. There is rust around the rear wheel wells. Interior is rough, dash is cracked and seats need redone. The car is all there though. It does run and drive. It is probably the perfect candidate for a person who wants to make a track car out of it but doesn't want to ruin a nice car. I have a parts car 93 190e 2.6 that is rust free and has a good dash and carpet that goes with the 16v. The 16v is worth a ton in parts. There is a US version motor on ebay for $2500 and trans for $1500 the ground effects go for good money too.

A great site for history on the car. http://www.mb190e16v.com/Templates/M...car%20body.htm

Its not that bad. Everything is on top of the wheel wells, once you remove the air cleaner boxes you can see the exhaust manifolds and that about all that is down there.

So far this is the only company that has made any for a V12 non turbo MB, and it is not the same motor as mine so not sure they would work. Scroll down to W220. 900000 yen.

Yeah I was looking for the vid you just posted as it's the one I saw several years back and thought to myself 'good god, that heavenly sound is hiding within all of those V12 luxo-barges?!' Just amazing. It sounds like an old indy car and has seats like a couch. My kind of cruiser.

Seats like a couch and twin turbo v12 is why we called my 06 S600 the Rocket Couch. The bi-turbo cars don't make the cool indy noises.

The NA 12's sound amazing. The TT12's are torque monsters. They don't sound half bad themselves when opened up. Plus turbo noises...which is always nice.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of power is gained from a full exhaust?

I have no idea. The catalytic converters are big and there is resonator and muffler. I would think ~30-50hp.

Very stout and trouble free motors. There are plenty of things to break on the car, no need to add the 1 quality problem free thing to that list.
