Default cseaman's 2007 z06 build thread, being completed by b16gsr

So, right before I deployed I had the opportunity to test drive a 2007 Z06 and a 2005 911 Carrera 4S (C4S) back to back, in KC. I've always loved C6Zs, because Chuong let me drive his 2008 a few years ago and it was just...brutal, and perfect. But I've always grown up around Porsches, and adore the 996 generation. My dad had a 996TT when I was in high school, and they have another one now, along with an '82 911 and an '08 Boxster RS60.

So, I decided to hunt for a C4S. Primarily because you can drive it a lot harder, with a lot less illegality involved. I was picky. Those cars are kind of a pain in the ass to buy. I damn near got completely taken by a car that was located in Arizona and checked out entirely - I would have committed had my parents not been able to check it out and realized it was rough as fuck, irregardless of its Carfax and some significant maintenance. That spooked me.

I also live out in Manhattan. Any service or repairs on a 911 would require getting the car to KC. Pain in the ass. So about a week ago I shot Nick a message about heading back in the direction of a C6Z. Well, of fucking course, Nick knew a local car. An awesome one at that. Oh, and he offered to essentially handle everything for me while I'm over here...including getting the car to Justune/Restomod for some work, and then storing it til I get back this summer.

2007 Z06 - 2LZ - 7600 miles - bone stock. Like, honest to god, bone stock.

I am giddy. And excited as hell to get home now.

We are doing fixed heads from West Coast Cylinder Heads (no porting, just to fix the valve guides), a smallish cam, an intake, and a tune. Other plans include figuring out how to get an aux input/bluetooth, and 50% tint on all the windows and windshield. New tires (and wheels..?) closer to my return to the states.

I will keep this thread updated with info, numbers, and hopefully some videos of the tune and cam sounds. Actually, Nick probably will, since it'll be in his possession.

Very nice.

I love German sports cars, but in the end when all of the tallying of expenses and fun are weighed I'd wager that Z is the better of the two options.

And dat low mileage

Have fun!

That's badass. Hopefully you get to put some actual miles on that thing. Plan on taking it to a track day?

That is something that I have read over and over here, and why it took basically nothing for me to have faith in a guy I've never met. The quality of people that refer to how stand up he is pretty much sealed the deal for me on committing to the car.

It won't be my DD, but I definitely will. It'll get me between KC/Manhattan frequently, and I'll probably take it out to AZ (parents live in Tucson) once a year.

In all honesty, I'd love to bring it to HPT, but I know how expensive it is to track these cars. I'd be better off in something with cheaper parts and an easier learning curve. I'll probably give it a shot while I'm close to HPT, however.

Nice Z06! I've always loved silver cars. Isn't 50% tint kind of pointless? Hell... the first time I had a car tinted, it was with 35% and that soon grew to be WAAAAAAY too light.

do it, at least once. even if you take it easy, it is the safest way to explore what that car can truly do.

Congrats on the low mileage pristine Z. Looks like you got one of the few intakes that are actually worth a damn for the C6. Get a good deal on it? I think the kit retails for like $500.

thanks man. and yes, nick recommended it - found a black friday sale at $460ish shipped. as long as it shows up before the car gets tuned it should be well worth it.

just ordered my roof rack

https://www.seasucker.com/

it's a suction-cup based rack design that doesn't require any permanent modification to the vehicle, and can be used on paint/glass/anything. my dad has had one for about five years, and they're pretty impressive. they're also a lot cheaper than thule/yakima/etc.

That is a clean ass Z06. Never been a huge fan of them, but can't beat the bang for buck.

I did some research, and you still may want to avoid the whole hash marks on the quarter panel with this one too.

That's generally a sign of a Grand Sport, and yours is a Z06

^^^ lol ^^^

But it's the fender, not quarter panel.

Very nice car and build plan.
