Default "Lantern" Duo Penning "Green Arrow"

The CW and Warner Bros. Television are readying a pilot order for "Arrow", a show based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow says The Live Feed.
Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim ("Green Lantern") are writing and executive producing the project with their "Eli Stone" cohort Andrew Kreisberg.
The network wrapped up its young Superman series "Smallville" last May after a ten year run. In that show Justin Hartley played Green Arrow as a wealthy playboy by day and crime fighting archer by night. Hartley is not attached to this version.
The CW previously produced a pilot for an "Aquaman" TV series which wasn't picked up. That show also starred Hartley in the role of the amphibious superhero.

After watching Hartley play the green arrow for 10 years, it won't be the same having someone else step in.

GREEN ARROW Pilot A Go At CW; Title Shortened To "ARROW"

After last week's report that the show landed at the network, the CW has officially ordered a pilot for the Green Arrow series, now known simply as Arrow..

THR report that the CW are moving forward with the new Green Arrow Tv show. Not many details were known about the show except that it would definitely not be a Smallville spin off (no Justin Hartely) and that Green Lantern duo Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti would produce. New info reveals that the story with be a "modern retelling" (take from that what you will) and that the pilot at least appears to have a director..

Arrow, based on DC Comics' long-running Green Arrow, revolves around the hooded super hero, a wealthy playboy by day who secretly saves the city by night using his enhanced arrows.

The hourlong drama is a modern retelling of the legendary comics character and hails from Green Lantern duo Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.

ARROW: Casting Breakdown Offers More Information On The New Show!

A casting breakdown for the Green Arrow Tv series at The CW has been revealed, offering up info on which characters will be featured as well as brief descriptions of them..

Some more news about the new Green Arrow television show that will air on The CW has been obtained. The project, titled Arrow has been described as a more modern retelling that sets the superhero “in a new world with an original story that is not based on the comics." The hour-long drama is from Green Lantern duo Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. There is no word as of yet if this will be similar to the Emerald Archer we saw in Smallville or not.

In this casting breakdown obtained by The TV Addict, some familiar names and elements from Green Arrow’s long comics history — including Dinah (Black Canary) Lance, as well as nods to the villain Merlyn the Archer and, possibly Green Arrow: Year One writer Andy Diggle:

Oliver Queen: A 27-year-old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in the South China Sea returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.

Dinah “Laurel” Lance: 28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara. A sister, who as luck would have it, just so happened to have died aboard Oliver’s yacht.

Tommy Merlyn: 28 years old and devil-smooth, Tommy is a trustafarian like Oliver, a spectacularly rich young man whose life revolves around parties, clubs, liquor and lots of anonymous sex. Unlike Oliver, he can’t seem to understand his former best friend’s sudden change of lifestyle and direction.

Moira Queen: 48 years old, a beautiful woman, Oliver’s mother Moira is a very wealthy woman who is not used to being shaken. Having remarried during the five years that former husband Robert and Oliver were both presumed dead, Moira has had free rein over the Queen billions. Not surprisingly, she’s deeply interested in learning whether or not Robert will also return unexpectedly, to ruin her present marriage and go over the books with a fine-tooth comb.

John Diggle: 35 years old, African-American, Diggle is really, really big, a former military man who served with the Army Rangers in Afghanistan, and has been a bodyguard for hire for the last four years. Hired by Moira to be Oliver’s chauffeur and protector, Diggle soon finds he is trapped in a battle of wits, as Oliver repeatedly eludes his protection. But in fact, Diggle’s primary conflict is one of loyalty — he has to show that he’s working for Oliver, not Moira, before Oliver will give him a smidgen of trust.

Thea Queen: 17 years old (suggest 17-22 years), Oliver’s Lolita-esque sister, Thea was a 12 year old girl when he went on his infamous yachting voyage — but now she’s a celebutante who’s testing the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Thea loved her big brother with all her heart, and is delighted to have him back in her life — but she’s spreading her wings, and is unprepared for Oliver to become the Bad Cop in the family, restricting her access to boys and drugs.

TVAddict goes on to state that from what they received the feeling is that the Green Arrow of Smallville (Justin Hartley) may not be the star of the proposed series. There were no real hints at who may take the bow, but it seems like this will be a fresh start for the pilot.

It looks like we have a pretty good look at who will be inhabiting the Green Arrow world of CW, what do you think? Somebody not make it you think would? Somebody left out? Who do you like for Green Arrow?

Stephen Amell Cast as Green Arrow in CW Pilot

And I’m guessing you, like me, are thinking, “Who!?” Stephen Amell may be an unknown to you and me, and probably most of the comic book crowd, but he’s a familiar face on the CW. He’s appeared on both The Vampire Diaries and 90210 and he’s had roles on Hung and Private Practice. Is the the kind of resume we want for the guy assuming the role of the emerald archer?
Hey, it’s not Justin Hartley, so that’s good news, right?
Actually, I’ve seen next to none of Hartley’s performace on Smallville. Maybe he would have been the better choice.
Either way, even with their title-character cast the CW’s Green Arrow pilot has a long way to go. At the moment the developing pilot has snagged David Nutter as a director and Andrew Kreisberg to write the script with Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. They’re still looking to cast other primary roles like Dinah Lance, who may or may not be Black Canary in the show, and Green Arrow’s nemesis, Merlyn.
I would love to have this show succeed because GA is one of my favorite heroes on DC’s roster, but I’m afraid they’ll be going in the direction of New 52 GA, of which I’m not a fan. And Kreisberg was responsible for the run of Black Canary/Green Arrow I really, really wanted to be good but in reality was really, really bad. But it might still be good, maybe? All right, I’m an eternal optimist, so shoot me.

ARROW: Expect An Edgier Take & A "Jason Bourne" Type Oliver Queen

CW head Thom Sherman let's us know what to expect from their upcoming take on Green Arrow. He says to expect a much less "comic book-y" character than the one we met in Smallville..

We knew to expect a different take from the Green Arrow comics when the new CW show was announced, but apparently it will be significantly different from Smallville's version of The Emerald Archer too. CW’s development head Thom Sherman tells EW..

"It’s a very provocative and sophisticated and edgy. It’s not as comic book-y as Smallville or other [superhero projects] from other networks.”

“He doesn’t have any superpowers, he’s a very grounded character like a Jason Bourne — we use the term ‘mambo'. His skill-set is that he’s an archer, but he also has physical strength and prowess. He’s clever and able to devise ways of taking down a bad guy that are unique and fun to watch.”
Is anyone else getting a hint that we may not even be seeing a Green Arrow in some kind of costume? Anyway, we know Stephen Amell will play Oliver Queen in the show, and it's been confirmed that the likes of Dinah Lance (will she be "Black Canary" though?) will pop up too. The show will be produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg. Arrow is one of eight pilots on The CW’s consideration list for next fall.

SUPERNATURAL's Katie Cassidy Cast As "Black Canary" In ARROW

Well, as her civilian alter ego anyway. Deadline report that Cassidy will play Oliver Queen's love interest Laurel - Dinah "Laurel" Lance in the comics - in The CW's take on Green Arrow..

As the casting continues for The CW's Green Arrow centric pilot, we now have our female lead. Katie Cassidy will play Oliver Queen's love interest Laurel. In the comics this character is the sonic scream powered Black Canary, but the following snippet from Deadline's report suggests that Laurel may not be donning the leathers or hurting anyone's ears in this show..

Cassidy will play Laurel, a young legal clinic attorney who shares a romantic past with Oliver. (In the comics, the character, Dinah “Laurel” Lance, has a superhero alter ego, Black Canary.)
Of course it doesn't say she definitely won't either, but judging from what we have heard about Arrow being more based in reality I'd say it's a safe bet. Cassidy has appeared in Gossip Girl, Melrose Place and Supernatural and joins Steven Amell as Oliver Queen, and Susanna Thompson who was cast yesterday as Oliver’s mother, Moira Queen. The pilot will be directed by David Nutter and is written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.

As the cast for CW's modern take on DC comics character Green Arrow grows, the latest addition is stage actor Colin Donnell.

From Deadline..
Donnell will play Tommy Merlyn, Oliver’s best friend, a playboy “trustafarian” who assumes the good times will roll again now that Oliver has returned…only to learn Oliver is a changed man.

Daily Planet's Cat Grant To Appear In CW's Green Arrow Television Show

Simply known as Arrow, CW's take on DC's Emerald Archer will feature a character previously seen on Smallville, Lois Lane rival Cat Grant.

/>

TV Addict is reporting that more Smallville characters will be turning up in Arrow, this time it's Daily Planet gossip columnist Cat Grant. Known in the comics for trying to steal Clark Kent from Lois Lane, TV Addict reports that this version will be 're-imagined as a sexy TMZ-style reporter who appears in the ARROW pilot to cover the unexpected reappearance of Oliver Queen'.

They also go on to report that Smallville alum Keri Lynn Pratt is up to reprise the role further blurring the lines of whether Arrow has a connection to Smallville. Some fans have speculated that the show will be a prequel to Smallville, in the sense that it follows Oliver before he arrives in Metropolis.

Paul Blackthorne Joins CW's Green Arrow Televion Show

Paul Blackthorne has been tapped for a co-starring role in the CW drama pilot Arrow and Jamey Sheridan is cast as Green Arrow's father.

Deadline has revealed that Paul Blackthorne will portray Laurel Lance's (aka Dinah Laurel Lance) father, Det. Quentin Lance, a "a gruff, determined city detective who believes true justice can only come from law and order. He’s charged with bringing the vigilante known as The Arrow to justice. "

In the DC comics universe, the character was originally named Larry Lance and was a detective in Gotham City. He's chiefly known for making a heroic save of original Black Canary Dinah Drake, sacrificing his own life in the process.

Deadline also reports that Law & Order: Criminal Intent alum Jamey Sheridan will play Robert Queen, Oliver’s father. The character Robrt Queen was also portrayed in Samllville by Johnathan Scrafe, however he was killed by Lionel Luthor. This would imply that Arrow will not be connected to Smallville.

CW's ARROW: More Possible Character Descriptions

CW's next superhero television show Arrow is currently in pre-production, and potential casting notice clues us in on two roles that haven't been announced yet, and more info on two other key roles.

Over on IMDB the user “Rhoswen7″ apparently has gotten his hands on casting notices for the pilot. Based on the notice filming for the pilot should begin March 12, 2012.

Last week it was announced that Paul Blackthorne landed the role of Detective Quentin Lance, and Jamey Sheridan will play Robert Queen. Here are full character breakdown for both roles.
DETECTIVE QUENTIN LANCE - In his 50s, Caucasian, he is Laurel's father; he's a gruff, determined city detective, who's pulled strings and gotten himself assigned to the investigation into Oliver Queen's kidnapping. The father of Sara Queen, who died of drowning while on a romantic weekend aboard the Queen yacht, Detective Lance bitterly hates Oliver and blames him for Sara's death. He's about to be placed in charge of a task force to capture the eccentric green-hooded vigilante. SERIES REGULAR.

ROBERT QUEEN - Male, Caucasian, 50 years old, Oliver's billionaire tycoon father, Robert is a powerful, fearsome, titan of a man, used to controlling everything in his life, particularly his family. A domineering patriarch, seen in flashback to five years ago, Robert learns that he cannot manipulate the weather to suit his wishes, and he's shipwrecked somewhere in the Indian Ocean, along with his son and his Chief Of Security. 1 speech & 24 lines, 5 scenes. POSSIBLE RECURRING GUEST STAR. STAR NAMES ONLY.
These are the two roles that haven't been casted yet.
WALTER STEELE - Male, Asian, East Indian, Latin, Middle Eastern. Early 50s. A commanding, upper crust man, Walter is Moira's second husband; he married her after Robert was declared legally dead -- and he's understandably interested in whether or not Robert is literally dead. MAJOR RECURRING GUEST STAR.

JOANNA - Female, African American, 28 years old, Joanna is Laurel's friend and co-worker at the City Necessary Resources Initiative. More cynical and maybe less idealistic, Joanna alerts Laurel to the fact of Oliver Queen's resurrection. RECURRING GUEST STAR.

CW's ARROW To Shoot At Hatley Castle

Oliver Queen will be setting up shop in the familiar Hatley Castle a historical castle that is located on the campus of Royal Roads University in Vancouver Island British Columbia.

The Times Colonist is reporting that The CW's new superhero television show Arrow will be shooting on the campus of Roaly Roads University. More specifically the shoot will be at historical Hatley Castle. The Castle is no stranger to the big and small screen either, it was used for the exterior shoots of Luthor mansion in Smallville as well as doubled as Professor X's School for Gifted Youngsters in the X-Men series. Cameras will roll starting later this month and will use the Vancouver Island location for around two days. The castle is being used as a home base for Oliver Queen, who will be played by Stephen Amell.

Arrow's shoot will consist mainly in Vancouver, but will relocate once they are done with the area. The show's pilot is being direct by Smallville alum David Nutter and written by Green Lantern writers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. The show is being described as "It's very provocative and sophisticated and edgy," by CW's head of development Thom Sherman with others saying that this Oliver Queen will be the Jason Bourne of superheros.

Darren Shahlavi Joins ARROW As Villain Constantine Drakon

The highly skilled assassin from the Green Arrow comic will be making an appearance in The CW's upcoming series, and will be played by the Mortal Kombat Legacy, Ip Man 2 actor..

Thanks to GreenArrowtv.com we now know which other Green Arrow comic villain will be causing trouble for Oliver Queen in the pilot for the Arrow tv series..

Darren Shahlavi (Ip Man 2 and “Kano” from Mortal Kombat Legacy) has been shooting for the past few days as a bad guy named Constantine Drakon. The character first appeared in the Judd Winick/Phil Hester run of Green Arrow comics in 2003.
In the comics Drakon was a diminutive Greek martial artist and ruthless assassin, who discovered he was a gifted killer at the age of ten. His first meeting with Green Arrow resulted in him crucifying the hero with his own arrows, so it will be very interesting to see if they make him such a formidable opponent in the show.

Darren Shahlavi is something of an action/martial arts movie veteran having appeared in over 40 movies, including Mortal Kombat Legacy, Ip Man 2, 300 and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. The first image of Stephen Amell in his Green Arrow costume was fairly well received the other day, could this show surprise a few people perhaps?

CW's ARROW Considered A Lock For Series Order

The Hollywood Reporter's article about the 80 or so pilots competing for fall and midseason slots projects that CW's new superhero television series Arrow will receive a series order.

Green Arrow Artwork by Robert Atkins

That sounds like very good news for Arrow, which is CW's reinterpretation of DC Comics' Green Arrow character. The show has been described as a darker grittier tale, with elements of the Bourne films mixed into it.
The potential series revolves around former billionaire playboy Oliver Queen who, after being marooned for five years on a remote island, returns with a mysterious agenda and a lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime.

Official Series Description For CW's ARROW

CW's Green Arrow television show has officially been picked up and here's the official description. Does this sound like the Oliver Queen show you want to see?

Here's the official description below---
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he's become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver's own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance.
What do you guys think? Personally I think it sounds like Iron Man mixed with Batman. Which has the potential to be incredibly awesome or hilariously bad.

ARROW: First Clear Look At The Costume And First Footage Revealed

Hit the jump to see the first non-shadowy look at Green Arrow in the new CW superhero drama coming this fall.

I'm a little disappointed that they have apparently decided to forgo the domino mask but word from those attending the CW Upfronts is that Arrow is shaping up to be something special. What was revealed was said to look more like a movie sizzle reel and not a television trailer. Footage should be online soon and then we can all judge for ourselves.
UPDATE
And now footage is indeed online, check it out here.

CW's GREEN ARROW Show Has A Nolan-Like Approach To Superheroes

Arrow will be vastly differ from Smallville, with a greater emphasis on realism. Plus first reviews of the pilot episode.

Don't expect The Flash or Superman to show up on The CW's new Green Arrow show. Taking ques from Christopher Nolan's approach to realistic costume adventures, no one in the Arrow universe will have special powers. Said lead, Stephen Amell to Zap2It---

"Nobody in our universe has super powers, so that's a big jumping off point. I think we find Oliver Queen more injured than we saw him before. Other than in name, there are virtually no similarities between [Hartley's version and the new version]. It's not to say that one's better than the other, it's just that they're so different, it's almost weird to compare them."

The site also goes on to reveal that they have viewed a rough-cut of the pilot and absolutely loved the show and reinforce the fact that he's very different from Smallville's take on The Emerald Archer. Also commenting on the pilot is The Detroit News which states that the show has "plenty of Easter eggs" and that Amell has "more charisma than “Smallville’s” lead, Tom Welling." The show seems very promising and definitely surprised most skeptics when the first footage was unveiled. And while there are no superpowered beings currently planned to cameo, there's plenty of non-powered heroes to choose from DC's roster.

New CW ‘Arrow’ Trailer Packed With Interesting Bits

Guess who’s coming to dinner!?!?
The CW just released a new trailer for the upcoming Green Arrow televisionshowArrow” starring Stephen Amell and there are a couple of interesting items. The biggest for this NerdBastard is the appearance (3:22 mark on video) of the Deathstroke like mask pictured above. Does this mean that Deathstroke will be a recurring villain in the series? Sign me up!
There is a guy, or guys maybe that is running around in a red and black skull helmet/mask that I’m not sure about yet. Could be Black Mask, maybe Red Hood, or could be some new bad guy.
There are a couple of quotes in the trailer that stand out:

“The Oliver you lost . . . might not be the Oliver they found.”
“Nobody can know my secret.” *CRACK*

This is starting to look like a darker look at the Emerald Archer, more along the lines of the Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters.
Did this trailer change your opinion and desire to watch the show?
