Default New Line Planning On Going On A Nostalgic 'Rampage'

For one psychological reason or another, humans love entertainment based around their own destruction. Has anyone ever just jumped into the story missions in a 'Grand Theft Auto' game? No, you kill a few hookers, run over some pedestrians, and lob grenades at the ever growing police force.

A game that truly played into people's desire to not fight against the monster but control it was 'Rampage.' Coming from the developers of 'Mortal Kombat,' Midway, the game featured three playable characters: George, a giant gorilla; Lizzie, a giant lizard; and Ralph, a giant werewolf who really looked like a big rat in the second entry in the series, 'Rampage: World Tour.' The story was light, but it was there. The three playable characters were once normal humans who were experimented on by Scumlabs. These experiments resulted in their mutation and escape. The gameplay is simple: as one of the three titans, the player must level the entirety of the stage to advance to the next.

Screen Rant reports that New Line Cinema has been spending some time at the arcade, and have chosen 'Rampage' as being worthy of getting a film adaptation. The only name being put of there is John Rickard who has worked as a producer on such films as 'A Nightmare on Elm Street,' (2010) 'Hall Pass,' 'Horrible Bosses,' 'Final Destination 5,' and the upcoming 'Jack the Giant Killer.'

God I loved that game, but I see no reason to make it into a movie.

Rampage Moves One Step Closer To Becoming Reality

It may not be world-shaking news, but last November New Line Cinema announced that they were looking towards putting together a flick based on the infamous, old-school, quarter-devouring game Rampage. As a sure sign that they haven’t backed off from the project just yet, they recently declared their selection of writer – one Ryan Engle.
Ryan Engle isn’t known for much, but that probably doesn’t matter too much when you’re making a movie about giant monsters trashing a city. Accompanying Engle on this questionable project will be John Rickard (Nightmare on Elm Street, Final Destination 5) as producer and Jaume Collet-Sera as director.
For those unfamiliar with the glory that was Rampage, players took on the roles of one of three giant monsters, mutated from human stock by some crazy-mad science. These monsters then trashed cities, beat the living crap out of each other and munched down people in order to keep their health bars up. All the while, military goons in tanks, helicopters and on foot tried to blast them to smithereens. Once one city was completely leveled, players moved on to the next. The cast of critters consisted of Ralph (a giant dog), Lizzie (a girly Godzilla) and George (a blatant King Kong rip-off).
The powers-that-be also mentioned that they wanted this new production to be in the vein of Independence Day (whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean) but with a much more modest budget. If they mean they want it to be an actioner, well no-shit. What else would one do with three giant monsters whose primary motivation is pummeling cities and eating people?
Of course, with the recent use of the name Battleship for its own upcoming flick, (so named because there happens to be a battleship in the movie) it could turn out to be a rom-com for they care.
Currently, New Line has no script or even an idea of what’s happening with the film, so no one knows what to expect. Just the way it’s being sold so far, however, is enough to bring tears to the eyes and cast a shadow over the fond memories of Rampage lovers across the globe.
Millions of quarters wasted for this? If only giant monsters would smash Hollywoodinto rubble…

Dwayne Johnson Joins Video Game Movie ‘Rampage’

Having narrowly escaped the total destruction of California in San Andreas, Dwayne Johnson is now gearing up for another, very different kind of disaster pic. The Rock is set to star in Rampage, a live-action feature for New Line based on the ’80s Midway Arcade game featuring three giant monsters. More on the Dwayne Johnson Rampage movie after the jump.
Deadline reports Rampage already has a script by Ryan Engle (Non-Stop), and is now looking for a director. Beau Flynn (San Andreas) and Johnson are producing with Dany Garcia and John Rickard. Shooting is expected to begin in summer 2016, after Johnson wraps up Fast and Furious 8.

The movie’s storyline is being kept under wraps for now. But the game centers on a middle-aged man, a young woman, and an old man who mutate into a gorilla, a lizard, and a werewolf, respectively. In their gigantic, mutated forms, they demolish cities across North America while fending off the military. Johnson will be one of the people fighting against these destructive beasts.
Rampage has been in the works for a few years already. Last we heard, the film was inspired less by the game’s plot than by its visuals (and recognizable brand name). Tonally, it was said to be “in the vein of Ghostbusters and Independence Day.”
The last part of that description might sound more exciting if we didn’t have actual Ghostbusters and Independence Day movies coming up on the horizon. Not to mention this summer’s Pixels, which could roughly be described the same way. Still, it doesn’t sound like a bad combo, and that mix of adventure and humor seems to be right in Johnson’s wheelhouse.
Johnson is in the middle of a big summer. He’s already had two big-screen hits, Furious 7 and San Andreas, and he just debuted his new HBO comedy series Ballers. Currently he’s shooting Central Intelligence, a New Line action-comedy with Kevin Hart. Also coming up for him are more Fast and Furious and Journey, a Big Trouble in Little China remake, the Disney animated pic Moana, and Warner Bros.’ superhero movie Shazam.

The Rock's Rampage Gets A Release Date

It's all Rock, all the time for the next few years. In addition to his many franchise films currently in development, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to star in the film adaptation of the classic video game, Rampage.
The film marks another team-up for Johnson and director, Brad Peyton. Peyton directed the Johnson-starring 2015 hit, San Andreas. The disaster film shattered expectations, as it grossed $473 million worldwide.
The partnership extends back even further, as the actor and director worked together on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
New Line Cinema has announced Rampage will be released on April 20, 2018. This slot will be in an excellent position for the box office heading into summer, and it doesn't look like there will be much competition for the weekend. Universal has an R-rated comedy scheduled for the same date, so Rampage should get the majority of the under-18 audience.

Brad Peyton's RAMPAGE Movie Starring Dwayne Johnson Sounds Insane In The Best Way Possible

Brad Peyton and Dwayne Johnson will next team up for Rampage, and the director talks here about the movie which will pit The Rock against a giant gorilla, lizard, and wolf as they tear across the US.

Brad Peyton proved that he knows how to destroy cities on a large scale when he directed Dwayne Johnson in earthquake disaster movie San Andreas, and after that proved to be a hit at the worldwide box office, the two will reteam for video game adaptation Rampage. In that, the wrestler turned actor will take on a gigantic gorilla, alligator, and wolf as they tear their way across America, and while this big screen take on the 80s Midway Arcade title sounds like fun, will it actually end up working?

WeGotThisCovered.com recently caught up with Peyton, and he told the site all about his plans for the movie and confirmed that he'll be using the three monsters mentioned above just like in the game.
"With Rampage, we are using our love of the original game as our inspiration. Then we’re going to build a movie, like San Andreas, that is really going to surprise people in what it delivers. It’s going to be a lot more emotional, a lot scarier and a lot more real than you’d expect. So you look at that original concept about a lab that affects these animals and makes them rampage, and that’s the nugget. If they called me tomorrow to do Call of Duty, I wouldn’t want to play any of the Call of Duty games. I’d have to come up with something that deserves to be its own thing. That’s where a lot of these movies can go wrong."

"I’m really excited about Rampage. It’s a monster film, so the stuff that I did on Incarnate, stretching my muscles in the horror space helped. This “small, character piece” with horror in it trained me to get ready for [Rampage]. Obviously, it’s a much bigger movie and it’s meant for a broader audience, but there still horror elements, there’s still a monster movie at the core. And I get to work with Dwayne [Johnson] again, I’m so excited about it. There’s the three, the lizard, the ape and the wolf, so we’re keeping it similar but you’ll have to tune into the tease on where we are going with this."
As I said above, Rampage really does sound like it has the potential to be a fun movie, but it could ultimately go either way. With Johnson set to take on a leading role, chances are it will be a hit either way, but here's hoping it's better than the last time the actor starred in a video game movie because we'd obviously all like to forget Doom ever happened! Do you think Rampage is a good idea? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on the new details revealed above in the usual place.

WATCHMEN Star Malin Akerman To Play Villain Opposite Dwayne Johnson In RAMPAGE

The cast of Rampage - which will reunite Dwayne Johnson with his San Andreas director Brad Peyton - has now found a villain in the form of Billions and Watchmen star Malin Akerman...

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Billions star Malin Akerman is in talks to join Rampage, the upcoming action movie starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. This is expected to be the last major role cast for the upcoming video game adaptation and the actress looks set to take on the role of the movie's lead villain.

Apparently, she will be the calculating head of a tech company that is behind the monsters which wind up decimating America. Jake Lacy is playing her brother, while Rampage's incredible ensemble now consists of Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald, and Breanne Hill.

Based on the popular 1980s video game, Rampage looks set to reteam Dwayne Johnson with San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton, a fun action movie which was a hit at the global box office.

Plot details are also being kept under wraps for the time being, but we do know that it will follow the game by pitting Johnson (described as an animal-loving hero who is the world’s only hope) against three gigantic monsters - a monstrously transformed gorilla, crocodile and wolf - who wreak havoc on American cities and landmarks. It sounds like a lot of fun and should be an enjoyable popcorn movie.

Ryan Engle wrote the original draft of the screenplay, with work contributed by Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal. Adam Sztykiel did the most current revisions, and the movie is set to be released on April 20th, next year. What do you guys think of this latest casting addition?

New Details About Dwayne Johnson's Rampage Movie Revealed

When The Rock's latest project Rampage was announced, many weren't sure what to make of it. The film is based on the classic Midway arcade game, but it isn't exactly full of story and nuance. Now there are more details about the film's plot and premise, as well as who the Rock will be playing.
The new plot details come via Splash Report, who revealed the hows and why the three monsters come into play. Here's the pitch. "The first privately owned space station is destroyed by a mysterious experiment done onboard. Three canisters from the crash land on Earth. One lands in the gorilla enclosure at the San Diego Zoo, the other in the plains of Wyoming and the last one in the Florida Everglades. The Griffin Technologies Group, headed by two siblings (Malin Akerman and Jake Lacy), tries to destroy any evidence of wrongdoing before the government finds out. It’s too late because the canisters have infected a gorilla named George, a wolf in Wyoming and an alligator. They start evolving and growing exponentially. To cover their track, the Griffin idiots decided to unleash a beacon that will make all three large animals head toward one destination: their head office located in the Willis Tower in Chicago."
The details seem to add up, but it doesn't explain how the Rock becomes involved. That is revealed in the new details as well, and it all has to do with George. "Well, he’s an ex-marine who’s now a primatologist that raised George at the San Diego Zoo. He taught the ape sign language, and they share a special bond."
As for Naomie Harris' character, she will play a "fired Griffin Tech scientist who helps our protagonist in trying to stop Chicago from being destroyed by those humongous beasts." It certainly sounds legit and fits the "broader audience" vision that director Brad Peyton has previously described.
Rampage is directed by Brad Peyton with Ryan Condal, Carlton Cuse, and Ryan Engle on writing duties. The project is executive produced by Jeffrey Fierson, Dany Garcia, and Peyton, with Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, and John Rickard serving as producers.
Rampage stars Dwayne Johnson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Marley Shelton, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Naomie Harris, Jake Lacy, Jack Quaid, Breanne Hill, Matt Gerald, P.J. Byrne, Levi Bowling, and Allyssa Brooke.

Do not go gentle. Grateful to put in work w/ our hard working crew on the eve of our Independence. #OnSet #Rampage #BloodiedAndBattered

This serves as the latest on-set photo for the film, in which others have been revealed, including various cast members and early motion capture work, which is being handled by the team at Weta Digital, who are responsible for the special effects in films like the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit films. No doubt they’ll add a level of realism to Rampage’s monsters to make them stand out – especially as they tear cities apart.
The film is definitely shaping up with its production, which is being handled by director Brad Peyton, who previously teamed up with Johnson for the 2015 blockbuster San Andreas. No doubt this film will be just as big in style and scope as that one, and maybe even bigger with monsters stomping around all over the place.
Johnson previously provided details on the film, noting, “I head up an anti poaching unit out of Rwanda. My best friend is a rare albino gorilla named, George. Very bad people infect George, an alligator and a wolf with a serum. All three animals grow at an unprecedented rate. Their size, speed, agility and violent aggression is off the charts. They go on a deadly rampage and want to destroy the world. George not happy. Me not happy. When animals like you, they lick you. When they don’t like you, they kill you. I will hunt down the bad people who did this to my best friend. And when I find them, I will not lick them.”

First Look at The Rock in 'Rampage'

(Photo: Warner Bros.)This morning USA Today revealed a couple of brand new images showing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as primatologist Davis Okoye in the upcoming action movie Rampage. The video games, you'll remember, focus on a group of enormous monsters that wreak havoc across North America be tearing down buildings, stomping vehicles, and ripping apart opposing military forces. Here we see David Okoye (Johnson) and his partner, a discredited genetic scientist named Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris), standing in the wreckage of what we assume to be their laboratory:
(Photo: Warner Bros.)Though the film promises the high-octane action and destruction you would expect from a movie called 'Rampage,' USA Today also revealed in an interview with Johnson that the film will explore his character's relationship with the silverback gorilla named George, who is mutated into a giant monster thanks to a genetic experiment gone wrong. In fact, in preparation for the film Johnson spent some serious quality time with silverback gorillas at the Atlanta Zoo, and worked closely with the folks at the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
“That was really eye-opening for me in terms of how dangerously close we are to having these beautiful animals extinct,” Johnson said. “There is a much greater level of empathy and care and consideration that we have to have. I was an animal lover before, but after this my love has become boundless.”

I enjoy the rock, but I feel like he's getting a bit played out in movies right now. Pretty much plays the same character in every single movie.
