Default Anyone in the Auto Insurance field?

Have been doing autobody/fabrication/restoration for almost 8 years now. Long story short is most of the restoration shops I've worked for tend to be ma/pa so wages are generally low and things like paid vacations, overtime and benefits/insurance are scarce. Also getting tired of the physical aspect. Can't remember the last time I could do anything afterwork. Get off at 6pm covered in dust/paint and who knows what, drive home, shower and it's going on 8:30pm... I cannot remember the last time I wanted to work on my own projects after a day of working on other's projects. Any mechaninc know the drill.

Have been considering taking up a switch, to insurance underwriting. I've worked with plenty of adjusters but, never usually get a chance to pry information about the field from them without the boss raising his eyebrows or risking a red flag.

1/2 of my job currently is dealing with estimate writing and customers so in my head I'm thinking it isn't that far of a stretch. Would be nice to go white collar especially if the pay is greater.

Are you talking about underwriting or completing estimates in the field for claims?

More so field of claims adjusting, estimation and/or the guy back in the office approving/rewriting supplements. Though looking at the field as a whole.

FWIW, my neighbor just retired about 9 months ago from a body shop and decided to go back to work. He didn't have much trouble getting in on doing field estimate work. Some days he has to a few 4 hours from home, but overall, he is happy with it.

I just started with Farmers insurance here in wichita as an auto claims adjuster. We are I believe hiring another new guy in June. He just graduated with his bachelors degree from wichita state and his dad owned a body shop and he has experience. If they find someone like that they are highly motivated to try and hire you.

you get a company car and gas paid for it too, competitive wages, good 401k match (6%). Not sure on insurance as I use my wifes.

job seems interesting so far.

check online KC should have some openings.

California Casualty, if you can get on, pays better than most. My wife looked at Farmers and their pay just couldn't compete.
