good info on the winder. i know i will probably purchase one and that makes sense about cheaper winders not being able to handle heavier watches. i guess that's something i'll have to research when the time comes.

edit: turns out there's a debate on weather watches even need winders? some say it wears out the fluids and internals quicker. hmmmmm.......

on another note, do do autos actually stop working after the reserve has expired? and do you just have to start wearing it or winding it to get it moving again, or would an auto that's been sitting a while require maintenance? the reason i ask is that the watch i'm looking at has been sitting in a display for a while from what i gather and although i know some people are going to maybe recommend maintenance, i would like to know what exactly would be required for a watch like that.
I will probably get hammered with exceptions, but to make it simple, in most auto watches, there is a weight that rotates as you move around and that will wind the watch. If you wear it regularly or keep it on a winder (which will rotate it) then it will keep working. Most autos that I have dealt with have a power reserve around 40 hours. This means after 40 hours of just sitting there, the power reserve will be gone and the watch will stop. You will have to set it again, and most most will hand wind a bit when you screw the crown back down.

I would test it out before I would get any work done to it, unless we are talking years and years of sitting (like a vintage watch) to check the seals. If it is keeping good time, wear it. I doubt it is under much stress in a display case.

I am sure that the debate will go on for a looooong time and would guess that nothing gets solved.

It is really up to you and will depend on how often you wear the watch. If you wear it almost daily, you may not need it. If you hardly wear it at all, then you probably won't mind setting it when you do wear it. If you are going to wear it every few days, or off and on, then you will probably find it helpful so you don't have to constantly re-set the watch. I view it as a convenience thing rather than a must have. I have heard that Brookston makes a decent one for a good price.

Well I just got my watch today. After a decent amount of research and a frustrating ebay auction loss, I found another seller and finally received my Zodiac Oceanaire. Blue dial CL-888 movement very good condition for a 10 yr old watch.

Diggin the Technomarine UF6.

My nerd's about to show but someday I do want an Omega 007 watch. Just classic.

I'm going to be buying a two-tone blue Sub Mariner soon. It's one of my favorites, besides the WG Sub, which is way out of my price range, sadly.

I just had someone offer to trade me one of those (brand new) for my LumTec not 2 weeks ago. They are an interesting looking watch for sure, but it is kind of hard to have a lot of respect for a company that you can find their watches regularly at half price. Why even have a $1200+ MSRP if you are going to sell them for $600? Invicta does the same crap and I think it is a kind of a joke.

I went and looked at a new Milguass (with the green sapphire this weekend) and almost pulled the trigger. I had it side by side with a Panerai, and to be honest, liked it better.

The wife found one she wants too, so I am going to try to make that happen. The difference is, she either wants a gold or two tone datejust <-that puts a big dent in the old toy fund.

I did find a decent deal (I think) on a two tone sub though. It is a black face though.

Awesome. The Milgauss is a pretty interesting watch, that's for sure. You could put it on a black nylon strap with an orange or green stripe/stitching and it would change it up completely. For your wife, I would suggest no smaller than a 38mm. Bigger watches(up to 40mm) look so hot on women.

She does better with the more dainty jewelry, which is funny, because she is taller than most women. I was just really impressed that she liked the watches. I have talked to a few dealers this morning about her watch. The price difference from a new two tone to a used one is amazing.

It looks like I found one for the wifey, provided everything checks out on it. About time to start looking for me

Nice, good luck with your decision. I haven't worked with FEAR before, but I hear he's legit.

SN is the same I use here. I told him exactly what the wifey wanted and two days later he got one in on trade and threw me a good price. Still a waiting period before they can service it and sell it, but barring any unforeseen issues, my name is on it.

I will let you know how the rest of the transaction goes. He has been great to deal with so far.

What B&R did you get?

I was considering one, but can't get my mind off of Rolex or possibly Panerai. Now that I have the wife's watch picked out, its game on for me! Just started putting the Breitling on a few more sites, though it may end up just getting traded in on something. The wife has given her approval to get what I want as long as it makes me happy...and is not another car

What did you get the wife? I bought my boss a B&R 01-92 Heritage PVD. Picked up a new strap from Rob. I am saving for my Panerai knockoff, Lum Tec Tungsten model.
