![]() Yeah, it's very generous and very unexpected. But we knew from the beginning it was never about money. They wanted the kids to be closer and they wanted us to get a chance to "try out" JoCo without having a hard commitment.
Our mortgage here is $1600 incl everything. There we would just pay the tax and insurance which is like $300 a month. So we will be able to save a lot of money. I figure utilities would be equal. There is no obligation to buy in 3 years and if we don't they will just sell the house. We also get to help pick out materials for the reno too. |

![]() I moved from north of the river to joco area 10yrs ago. I have no regrets, yes MO is alittle more layed back. But the other perks out weigh that.
If this is one of those town homes off of 79th steer away. Otherwise go for it, foundation issues can be fixed. |

![]() It's single family home. 4 bedroom. I'm not too worried about issues right now as we are just "renting" right now.

![]() A suggestion - as a way to maintain goodwill you might mention to them that you'll also plan on putting $X/mo into the grandkids 529 since they're helping you save so much extra money. Just a thought.

![]() We are. They know the plan. We are saving an extra $1k to our "forever home" and each kid is getting bumped from $75a paycheck to $125 a paycheck. Also we are upping 401k contribution slightly.

![]() It is. And we are amazed they are doing it. The could easily just sell this off and be done. We have never asked for a handout nor did we ask for this situation ot begin with.
They know I still have 50k in student loans, and day care is $1k per kid. We can make it work as is just fine, but this helps alleviate some pressure. It's their way of helping out without actually having to give us straight money. And as I've said before, they want to see their grandkids more. Right now being 40 mins away, it's a production trying to work around travel time, nap schedules, feedings, etc. Being 5 mins away will eliminate all that. |

![]() Just had a realtor come through. We planned to do tile floors in two bathrooms over the vinyl and then re-tile the two showers with a nice subway tile and mosaic shelf insert. Replace basement carpet and then replace or clean the carpet in the house. Then stain the deck and paint the outside of the house. We thought after all this we could list for 230-235.
She came through and said we could just finish painting the 3rd bedroom, forget the rest and list for 250. This housing market is cray.

![]() Yeah, it really is. Once interest rates raise I think sales will level out but who knows. 5+ years of home builders not building many houses or apartments during the recession has really pushed demand up now. I'm very glad we found our house at a reasonable price (260) and locked in at 3.875 last year. A smaller house (but more updates) on my block sold for 310 cash a few months back.

![]() Was it asking price? Higher? Lower? Also how much haggling was involved on their end? Did they ask for things like closing costs? I ask because when I bought my house I was able to haggle a lot but that was in 2013. Times are different these days.

We bought the house in 2014 and haggled 229 down to 220. 3 years later we got full asking of 245 with no inspection. Taking it as is. We had an offer of higher but they had a contingency of selling their out of state house. The offer we took has no contingency and is fully approved with 20% down and 5 k earnest. |
