Default My new Canon seems to need glasses.....WTF?

Ok, so I will admit that I have only put a couple hundred pics through this camera.....
However, I am so bloody let down with the auto focus its retarded.

My Nikon literally "nailed it" all the freaking time, even when shooting cars launching at the track. So I got used to basically only having to worry about the "5" areas I allowed it to focus. The 4 corners, and the center.

I will post up some examples, but none of them are low light, none of them have shutter speeds to low, none of them are even rapid motion. It also does it with every lens I have. 50, 70-300, 18-135, 10-22.

Either, I am doing something wrong...... (IE: wrong setting) or its flat out got an issue with nailing the focus. Anyone had a similar issue?

PS: Camera is T3i

Lay a yard stick at aa 45 degree angle and shoot it from a few feet away zoomed in on the 1.5' mark. Look at photo and see where the focus is coming clear at. This will tell you if it is consistently front focusing or back focusing or if it is random. Try with different lenses and see if its the same.

It may be a crap camera that needs to be sent in.

I would agree, sounds like you either have a setting buried somewhere in the menus that is off or you could have a bad focus screen. I would call Canon if it isn't too old it is probably still under warranty.

But I will say as someone who has run about quarter million shots through Nikon and canon cameras each...they do have their interesting quarks.

Canons tend to do better in lower light and high speed (sports). But generally no matter the camera they are soft.

Nikon is tack sharp no matter the camera or lens but low light and speed are not always the best.

I had this issue and I also agree with checking the focus point. It may be set all the way to either side or any other point.
