Default Clutch Change

I'm helping a buddy out with his recently purchased 1985 CB650 Nighthawk. The clutch started slipping on his first ride. When I showed up the bike would move, but the clutch was slipping really bad. I thought first we should look the clutch hydraulics. We took it all apart(master and slave cylinders), during the disassembly we found that someone had been into the slave before. The slave was missing its return spring. So we rebuilt the master and slave cylinders put it all back together. Then we vacuum bleed the system.

He went out for a ride and the clutch worked great. After leaving he went on a short ride and once again the clutch was slipping. I assume the plates are burned up.

So here is my question, when changing the fiber plates of the clutch should you replace the metal plates as well? I was going to get EBC fiber plates and EBC springs along with the associated gaskets. I don't see any clutch kits that have the metal plates. Suggestions?

Inspect the metal plates. If it has been slipping long, they could be warped. Most likely though they will be just fine and new fibers/springs will fix his issues.

I have no idea what condition they are in, but I have decided to buy new ones and just replace all of it. I don't want to tear into this again.

Being that it's that old. I would replace it all, Springs, Fibers, and Steels. You have no idea if they've been replaced before and it won't cost you that much for all of that.
