Default In-laws in officer involved accident.

Knowing that there are a couple LEO's that frequent the forum I figured this would be a good place to ask this question.

My in-laws were just hit by a Gladstone officer responding to an emergency about 8:45 tonight. They were sitting second in line at a red light, facing north on North Oak, when the officer lost control turning south onto North Oak impacting their driver's side. No injuries from either vehicle.

The reason for question/concern is that the officers, both the one that caused the accident and the one that filed the report, were very cold, very short, and unwilling to address any of their concerns once they established there were no injuries. They tried offering their account of what they witnessed, but were turned down the opportunity to make a statement. The officer filing the report offered a response saying "everything will be on the dash camera". They were then handed a small piece of paper with a name and phone number for any questions they may have.

Basically, is this standard operating practice for an officer involved accident? If not, what can they do to protect themselves from being responsible for any of the damages?

Why would they be responsible?

Dash cam will show exactly what happened, really no need for much else from there. City insurance will pay to fix their car and that will be that.

they were cold because they were probably embarrassed. They are still people when it boils down to it.

I wouldn't sweat it at all. Not like it's joe smith that doesn't have insurance. It'll be taken care of. Might take a tad bit longer than normal, but that's probably just their processes they have to go through. The one person I wouldn't mind getting hit by is anyone employed by a city, especially a cop. Just call the number on the paper and it'll get taken care of. Sucks for your parents but good thing they are ok!

This is what I expected to hear. It just seemed odd that they didn't want the other party's account of what happened, even with a dash cam. Thanks for the responses everyone.

I dont know about in MO but we dont take any witness information for state accidents unless it is a fatality or dui or one that needs a case record.
