Richardson is/was a top DL player (2013 Defensive rookie of the year) that makes the Seattle D-Line pretty insane. Although knowing that Seattle gave up Kearse and a 2nd rounder dims it quite a bit.

NFL player says he will 'be done playing football' if forced to stand for anthem

time.prefixdate:before{content:'Posted: ';}time.prefixdate:before{content:'Updated: ';}

Titans WR Rishard Matthews said on Twitter that he would quit playing in the NFL if they began requiring teams to stand for the National Anthem. (WSMV)

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Tennessee Titans wide receiver Rishard Matthews will not stay in the locker room or pay a fine if the NFL makes a new rule requiring players to stand for the national anthem at games.
Mathews told a News 4 producer that if a new rule is put in place, he will quit playing professional football.
Soon after publishing the tweet, Matthews deleted it.
This comes after NFL teams across the country began kneeling or staying in their locker rooms during the national anthem because of statements by President Donald Trump.
Trump has repeatedly criticized players and teams who kneel during the anthem to protest, saying that any players who refused to stand should be fired.
Earlier this month, the Seattle Seahawks and Titans stayed off the field during the anthem. This was the first Sunday after Trump made his comments.

Those two trades are both insane.

Garoppolo and Ajayi.

Shanahan apparently has seen enough of C.J. Beathard

Getty Images

Here’s another obvious conclusion that flows from Monday night’s stunning trade of Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers: Not only are the 49ers done with quarterback Brian Hoyer completely, but they’re also done with C.J. Beathard as a potential quarterback of the future.
Beathard, a third-round pick in 2017, started only two games for the 49ers. But that apparently was enough to get Shanahan to conclude that the rookie from Iowa won’t be better than a largely unproven career backup, who got injured during what was supposed to be a four-game audition for a starting job elsewhere in 2016, during Tom Brady‘s suspension.

And that leads to a question that surely will be answered, sooner than later. Who made the first move?
Did the Patriots see an opportunity to move Garropolo and get, indirectly, former Patriots backup Brian Hoyer to serve as Tom Brady’s understudy? Or did the 49ers, in a fit of frustration and an overwhelming sense of helplessness and futility, target Garoppolo as achieving a small victory in a season full of losses?
Either way, the move means not only that the 49ers aren’t sold on Beathard as a potential franchise quarterback but also that they didn’t believe any of the top quarterbacks in the 2018 draft will be the answer.
Before slamming the door entirely on that possibility, remember this: The 49ers also could decide that Garoppolo isn’t the guy, letting him walk away and getting credit for his departure in the compensatory draft-pick formula as of 2019. If they’d get a third-rounder for Garoppolo leaving in free agency, that would offset the 2018 second-rounder that have given up for him in order to get what could turn out to be a half-season rental and an exclusive opportunity to evaluate a potential franchise quarterback.

Interesting things coming about after one of those trades

Hue Jackson puts out the word that he wanted Jimmy Garoppolo in Cleveland

Getty Images

Jimmy Garoppolo has been traded from New England to San Francisco, and the implications are being felt in Cleveland.
Browns coach Hue Jackson wanted Garoppolo more than any other quarterback aside from possibly Jared Goff (who wasn’t available to Cleveland because the Rams took him with the first overall pick last year), according to Mike Silver of NFL Media.

Although Silver did not attribute that information to any particular source, Silver and Jackson have a close relationship, so when Silver reports that Jackson wanted Garoppolo, suffice to say that it came straight from the horse’s mouth. In 2016, when the Browns first hired Jackson, Silver was the first reporter Jackson confirmed his hiring to.
That suggests Jackson and the Browns’ front office don’t see eye to eye: Jackson wanted Garoppolo, and the Browns could have acquired Garoppolo because they have two first-round picks and three second-round picks in the 2018 NFL draft, and all it took the 49ers to get Garoppolo was one second-round pick. The Browns didn’t get Jackson’s guy, and Jackson wants everyone to know that.
Whatever the reasons that the Browns didn’t trade for Garoppolo (and there have been some reports that Garoppolo and his agent didn’t want to go to Cleveland and wouldn’t have been cooperative in contract negotiations), the front office didn’t land the guy Jackson wanted. Bill Parcells liked to say that if he’s going to be told to cook the meal, he ought to have some input into buying the groceries. A lot of coaches feel that way. And Jackson is letting his feelings be known.

Now the trade makes sense

Kyle Shanahan wanted the Browns to draft Jimmy Garoppolo back in 2014

Shanahan, now in San Francisco, finally gets his quarterback

No one saw it coming. When Jimmy Garoppolo was traded on Monday night, San Francisco wasn't supposed to be the destination. Yes, the 49ers are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback, but first-year coach Kyle Shanahan was expected to pursue Kirk Cousins in the offseason.
Turns out, Garoppolo makes a lot of sense for the 49ers. For starters, Cousins will likely command "highest-paid player in the league" status heading into the 2018. And even though he and Shanahan worked well together in Washington in 2012-13, Shanahan is also a big Garoppolo fan. In the months leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, Shanahan was the Browns' offensive coordinator and the Browns, as is the case every offseason, were in the market for a franchise quarterback.
Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater, all first-round picks, were the first three quarterbacks taken.
Meanwhile, Derek Carr and Garoppolo lasted until the second round. Which brings us back to Shanahan, who in February revealed that Manziel wasn't among his top-rated quarterbacks heading into the 2014 draft.

"They had me look at every quarterback and evaluate every quarterback,'' Shanahan said during Super Bowl week, via Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. "That's everywhere. They ask you to evaluate everyone and you give grades and you tell people who you want and you wait to see what happens."

So who were Shanahan's top two favorites?
Garoppolo and Carr.

The Browns traded up to No. 22 to grab Manziel. Former general manager Ray Farmer took responsibility for selecting Manziel though owner Jimmy Haslam may have also had something to do with the decision.

Whatever the reason, Shanahan was overruled.
"I think people heard me, but the results weren't there,'' Shanahan said. "I think there were a lot of people who liked Garoppolo. There were other quarterbacks we liked, too. We put a board together. We rank every one. Then, the people who make the decisions, you have to wait and see what happens. As a coach, it's like that at a lot of places. You have to deal with what happens."
Shanahan left Cleveland after one season -- reportedly due to friction on the coaching staff -- and went to Atlanta where he revived Matt Ryan's career and parlayed that success into the 49ers' coaching job. And now, it appears, he finally has the quarterback he wanted three years ago.
"It's been a great deal for him I'm sure in the situation he is, being behind Tom [Brady], seeing how they do it,'' Shanahan said at the time of Garoppolo. "I'm sure when he does get his opportunity whether it's earlier this year in the two games he played or possibly next year, who knows what will happen -- I'm sure he'll be ready."

Cleveland Browns hire former Chiefs GM John Dorsey

Former Chiefs general manager John Dorsey has a new gig.
Dorsey, who worked for the Chiefs from 2013 to this summer, has been hired to be the Cleveland Browns’ new general manager, the Browns announced on Thursday night.
“We are thrilled to have John Dorsey lead our football operations,” Browns team owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said in a statement on Thursday. “John has been immersed in the NFL for 26 years, won two Super Bowls, built sustainable winning football teams and is highly respected for his football acumen. We know we have a critical and very positive opportunity ahead of us to profoundly impact the foundation of this football team.
“Bringing in someone of John Dorsey’s caliber, his track record of success and his experience, significantly strengthens our opportunities to build a winning football team and that has been, and continues to be, what we want for our fans.”
Along with coach Andy Reid, Dorsey was hired after the disastrous 2012 season to steady the ship in Kansas City. The Chiefs followed with an 11-5 campaign in Reid and Dorsey’s first season, and proceeded to go 43-21 with three playoff berths over their four years together as the Chiefs became one of the league’s consistent winners.
Between the two, however, Reid proved to be the only one who would reap the rewards of that labor. With both men set to enter the final year of their contracts this spring, Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt –– after maintaining repeatedly that he wanted both Reid and Dorsey back –– opted to issue Reid an extension, but fire Dorsey.
“I notified John that we would not be extending his contract beyond the 2017 season, and after consideration, we felt it was in his best interests and the best interests of the team to part ways now,” Hunt said in a release announcing Dorsey’s departure in June, which was sent about a half-hour after the Chiefs announced Reid’s contract extension.
