Default Whats going on at Missouri?

UGA friend told me they are dropping like flies. AD gone, his replacement gone, a nobody as a football coach and keeping the nobody as the basketball coach?

Is there scuttlebutt regarding a ban hammer for them? Did Haith crash the whole damned thing?

Well, Haith certainly shares some of the blame (for the basketball), but the MU1330 deal really chapped ALOT of folks the wrong way. A lot of heavy handed donors/alums.

It's a toxic situation, the school couldn't get a handle on it, and now they will probably suck for at least a decade. The football coach hire was about the dumbest thing they've done, yet. I know they get a lot of flack for being in the "weak conference" of the SEC, but they still were a pretty good team. Now they will suck. For a long, long time.

And I can't imagine the basketball will get any better, at least not in the near future. I'd just let Kim Anderson coach until the Haith stigma is totally gone, maybe 5 seasons or so. If he turns it around, great. If not, spend the bucks on Coach Cal.

The 1330 thing the race thing? I could see how ousting a chancellor/president over that bullshit could create some uncertainty but I figured it wouldn't impact the athletics that much.

The AD went to Baylor right? Thought he had some sort of connection there so it was something he wanted to do, not just abandon the tiggers.

Rhoades did a pretty poor job at Mizzou and was a poor culture fit at Mizzou. He may be a better fit at Baylor and I'm sure he wanted to go back to Texas and Baylor threw a shit ton of money at him.

All you really need to know is no one is sorry to see him go and come to think of neither was anyone at Houston.

Wren Baker was the interim AD and got the AD job at North Texas. Believe he came from Northwest Missouri State and wasn't a serious candidate for the Mizzou job so I don't blame him for moving up the ladder.

Barry Odom is a first time head coach but was considered a rising star coach as a DC. I think he'll do a good job.

Kim Anderson is basically on his last chance. NCAA finally finished their investion so that specter is gone but they need to show a lot of improvement for him to keep his job. Like more than 6 more wins than last year kind of stuff. But at least he didn't pull a KState against that Italian team...

Has the NCAA posted results of the investigation yet? Right now it seems like even if the NCAA didnt impose anything else that youre gonna have to throw a TON of money at a pretty mediocre coach to replace KA with the way the program is going. I dont even know how you can recruit to something like that.

Exactly.

That's why they should just ride KA out until it's forgotten about. Or throw obscene amount of cash at a proven coach.

Seems like the smart choice. Let him take the beating and then pay for someone once all of the dust settles.

It's not like he won't get paid handsomely for his troubles (I think he makes $350k, iirc), he still gets to put an SEC school on his resume and can always point to Haith for his awful record. Someone will give him a look when he's done, I'm sure.

Then toss $12m/year at Cal or Pitino.

Yes. They accepted mizzou's self imposed penalties and added a year of probation.

You're thinking of his base salary for his coaching duties only. He makes a bit more than that.

And, no you are just crazy on that last part.

haha.

While it certainly is in jest, both programs will remain in the doldrums unless something drastic takes place. Swapping the SDSU AD isn't really going to do much, I reckon.

Noe the crazy part is the idea you could pull a blue blood coach away with 12 mil. Youre talking about guys who are pulling 10 in with incentives and a big recruiting name. Realistically you need to target someone who has been able to recruit and win at a mid major. Give him a shot.

I think when he says "with incentives" he means money that isn't gonna be found in that chart.

Honestly, with coaches, that doesn't really matter. They get their money wherever. School can pay them and they can do whatever endorsement money they want. Not really any benefit to take cash outside of "legit" sources, IMO.

Correct, but they are still hovering around the 10 million mark for blue blood coaches all thinks considered. And that is at a job you can always command the best talent and get the good TV deals. In every measurable sense going to Missouri would be a HUGE downgrade.

Now in no way is Missouri going to pony up $12mil for basketball, the trustees would shit rocks. But even if they did you would need to be compensating for the lost outside money, the prestige, the exposure, the recruits, the facilities, etc. Its not going to happen with one of those coaches in their prime, maybe on the downswing.
