can anyone recommened me a site to buy a replacement knife like this one? i bought this knife about a year and half ago for 20 bucks at the great plains mall and today it finally shit out on me... it was a pretty well built knife for 20 bucks and i liked how quick i could open and close it so im wanting to stick to something very simaliar to it. also you might ask "well why doesnt he just go buy another one from the mall?" well the past few times ive been back they only seem to carry the gay looking light blue ones with a HOMO flame shaped blade and thats just not my taste lol i like simple and functionality.

I can't justify that much money on something I'd rarely carry due to intimidation factor. I don't mind spending 40 or so on the Lightning just to carry once in a blue moon and to fidget with.

I just started my "collection" a month ago, so I have to start somewhere. I have a few more incoming this weekend as B-day presents.

Technically, it's against federal law to buy/sell/transport *across state lines*, but it's very, very rarely enforced. Also, it's against the law to use USPS to ship, but again very rarely enforced. Federal law makes an exception for LEO and military sales and allows those transactions.

In practice, dealers and individuals do it all the time, every day, with no problems. Personally, I don't worry about it, and would buy online.

FWIW, the last case I recall involving federal switchblade laws was the Spyderco balisong case from 2006-2007, and that was primarily because of Spyderco importing parts.

If you're paranoid about it, buy locally at a gun & knife show. You can also find them occasionally on MWGT and craigslist. You definitely need to be VERY wary of counterfeits being sold locally though. I've seen counterfeits/copies being sold alot locally. To be sure you're getting the real deal, your best bet is to buy from a legit, authorized dealer. You can also post pics on sites like bladeforums.com and usualsuspect.net and forum members who are experts on the brand will be able to positively identify fakes.

Side note: Microtechs are the most widely copied/counterfeited autos (because Microtech makes some fucking awesome knives). There's a great Microtech forum you should check out if you're considering buying a Microtech.
