Default VP Travels to Ireland for a conference in Dublin...

So Pence has gone to Ireland for a conference in Dublin. Naturally one would think he would of course, stay in Dublin. Nope, instead he and his detail are 3 hours away by car at another hotel. Can you guess why?

It's probably for the little mints they put on the pillows. Those things are delicious.

No shit.

He should get on a boat and float to the hurricane for firsthand perspective. Maybe take some nukes with him.

So the VP should have to be subjected to piss poor accommodations just because the name Trump is on the only decent hotel property in the area?

Get real.

In the area? He's 3 fucking hours away. You're telling me there isn't a property in Dublin, WHERE THE CONFERENCE IS ACTUALLY AT, that couldn't accommodate the VP?

In all reality I can only imagine accommodating these high profile guests to be quite the feat, especially when you consider secret service and all the other high profile guests attending. Some hotels just may not be able to accomodate, but I would assume a Trump hotel would.

Conflict of interest, sure...but there was a good analogy I heard the other day with this presidency.

You wear a white shirt and spill a little wine on it you've got a big stain. Really stands out. Looks bad.

You fix that stain by dumping the whole bottle of wine over the shirt. Now it's a red shirt. No more stains.

You tell me since you’re so convinced there is yet haven’t suggested one other option that would be suitable.

Well Presidents and Vice Presidents have stayed in Dublin prior to this on official visits, so I would imagine that those options were still available.

Well when it comes to working in the public sector (which I have spent nearly 10 years of my career doing), you don't get to seek out the best options when travelling. You get to use those which are deemed usable.

In the case of our executives like POTUS and VP, etc, having the choice to stay at a place that's "nicer" shouldn't be an option if it incurs a greater cost to the American taxpayer. All that should matter is that the officials are able to perform their duties as expected and that they are safe.

Interesting that you want concrete facts out of DIY to defend his points, but your imagination is enough to justify yours.

President Obama stayed at the Merrion in 2011, which is located in Dublin. It's listed also as a 5 star resort.

If you weren't so lazy you'd look at rates for those hotels and find out that Pence is saving money by staying at the Trump resort. Even factoring in the cost of travelling three hours for meetings, the number of rooms his entourage must have when comparing those rate differences easily shows a savings of money.

How dare our VP be frugal and inconvenience himself with travel time in order to save taxpayer dollars.

Maybe check your facts next time before you embarrass yourself with these ridiculous partisan posts.

The Conrad? The Westin? Intercontinental?

3 of the dozen 5 star hotels that were all hosting the other guests for the confrences without issues.

Its obvious you dont WANT to know because you know its a conflict of interest but you cant question your Jesus.

So your work you hypocrite. Use them restaurant skills and show how Pence is saving us money? You already said "so you couldn't show there are other appropriate hotels" and others prove there are PLENTY of appropriate hotels so now youre making up some bullshit about how its saving money to move the entourage 3 hours each way.

anyone that's ever even looked at flying a private jet knows there is ZERO chance that the rates of any hotel vs another could justify back and forth flights for a day's meeting.

jw - if you're not just trolling (which is exactly what I think you're doing) you'll post a site that talks about the room rates being enough to justify this bullshit. even the WH isn't trying that angle from what I've seen, they are hanging onto the idea that Doonberg is where Pence's mother's family is from... which is still blisteringly stupid but it at least has the veneer of truth unlike this cost bullshit once you factor in a roundtrip flight each day.

I went to Google, tried to book a room at each property for a one night stay tonight.

Lowest rate at the Trump resort- $269

Lowest rate for the one Buddy Lee mentioned- $348

Feels like enough data to get my troll on

How is my post partisan exactly? I have an issue with our government staying at resorts/hotels that are owned by the President (if even by proxy). It's flat wrong and it sets a very bad example. In this case the Trump resort isn't even near the meetings.

Oh I get it. I saw the recent reposting of the outrage they had when Obama wore a tan suit.

But that's when the analogy came up....Obama was so squeaky clean that they were literally bitching about how he cooked his steak, or his mustard choices, or his suit colors...

In comparison this is a much bigger deal.

But the shirt is all red now, so this little stain is just not important and his supporters will never care.
