Olathe speed traps & traffic cop locations - post your info here

Our firm's traffic lawyers are seeing Olathe cops in the following locations:
1. Santa Fe, near I35 where there is a closed bank. Drivers coming off of the overpass usually pick up speed downhill and are easy targets.
2. I-35, often near Old 56 Highway. The Olathe traffic cops often shoot radar or laser from the overpass or on the on-ramp which is difficult to detect because they wait until traffic passes - drivers cannot see them unless they are looking to their right.
3. School Zones - Olathe traffic cops LOVE to enforce school zone speeding tickets. If you pass through a school zone, rest assured that they will be monitoring speed there sooner or later.
4. Construction Zones - Olathe police also write a lot of construction zone speeding tickets.
5. K-7 near the Wal-Mart - The speed changes here and drivers often miss the change.
6. Anywhere near Bonita Flats, especially at night - Olathe DUI enforcement officers know that folks leaving strip clubs were probably drinking, so they monitor those routes into town regularly. Traffic stops turn into DUI investigations which turn into DUI arrests.

Update on Olathe traffic enforcement

Starting to see a lot of Olathe speeding tickets on Northgate/119th/Kansas Ave. Traffic cops seem to be hiding in the railroad maintenance access cutouts, waiting for people to round the corner.

Also be on the lookout for Olathe's F150 traffic enforcement officer. He often shoots laser from the truck, but he can hop out and us it on foot as well. We are seeing a number of those speeding tickets as well.

New Olathe ticket update. You definitely want to watch your speedometer in Olathe, especially areas where the speed drops down.

Olathe traffic cops have been all over 143rd & Pflumm area writing speeding tickets the past few days. Our Olathe traffic law office has been called by 4 different drivers this week regarding tickets in that general area. One cop is on foot with a laser with patrol cars pulling people over further down the road.

Olathe tickets are very pricey as well. I do not know for sure, but they are likely the highest priced tickets in Johnson County.

Only good news? Our traffic attorneys can amend nearly every Olathe speeding or traffic ticket to a non-moving violation, usually illegal parking.

^^ I can confirm that. I live just a few blocks from there (143rd & BB) and I always take it easy going SB down Pflumm toward 143rd. There's a smallish duplex development @ 141st and cops regularly sit in the exit tagging people approaching the stop sign @ 143rd.

I've also seen cops on I-435 EB hiding in a shadow that Quivira casts on 435. If you're not looking way up ahead you won't notice him until he's getting in his car to come after you.

We received 2 calls about Olathe traffic cops all over Woodridge street. On my way to Leawood Municipal Court, I personally saw FOUR cops along Woodridge between K10 and 119th (Northgate). There were 2 motorcycle cops, 1 in an SUV, and 1 regular patrol car (Crown Vic)

New Olathe info:
Olathe has a black 2012 Dodge Charger slicktop. It is not easy to spot because driver's aren't used to looking for it. It is equipped with the license plate scanner cameras. This car is a "traffic patrol" vehicle, so it will utilize most of its time looking for speeders in Olathe with radar, laser, or looking for other violations. The Olathe police department also has a "traffic patrol" Chevy Tahoe slicktop.

These cameras scan the license plates of hundreds or thousands of cars per hour and compare them to a database. If the database shows that the tag belongs to someone with a suspended driver's license or a warrant, it will immediately alert the Olathe police officer who will then pull them over. You shouldn't drive with a suspended license anywhere, but especially not in Olathe.

Olathe has REALLY been hitting the school zones up lately, which is REALLY expensive for those who are ticketed. The face value of an Olathe school zone speeding ticket will often be ~$500 because the fine is doubled in the school zone. The only good news (OK, kinda sorta good news) is that an Olathe traffic lawyer can amend most Olathe school zone tickets, but they will be pricey.

A good Olathe traffic lawyer could amend these tickets all day long, even if you were clocked at 60 in that 35mph zone. It would be rather expensive, however, because the Olathe Municipal Prosecutor will double the face value of the ticket. FWIW, Olathe prosecutors are some of a select few prosecutors who will negotiate with Olathe traffic attorneys for driving while suspended ticket amendments.

Every time I have seen them, they have been shooting radar. I haven't seen any cops in Olathe monitoring the running of lights.

My law office is still getting lots of Olathe construction zone speeding ticket amendment calls - at least 2 a day. If you're traveling though a construction zone in Olathe right now, there is a pretty good chance there is a traffic cop with a laser or radar close by.

In fact, it seems like most cities in Johnson County are writing more tickets this summer. Slow down and keep an eye out. Better yet: get a Valentine One, slow down, and keep an eye out.
