Next-Gen Hyundai Equus Spotted in Production Form for the First Time

Today we want to share with you the first spy pictures of the next-generation Hyundai’s flagship luxury sedan, the 2016 Equus. Spotted for the first time in production form in South Korea, the car could be revealed as a concept car at the nearly 2015 Detroit International AutoShow held in January, 12.

After we spotted a test mule car in Colorodo, testing with the BMW 7 Series and Kia K900 as well, this test mule prototype showed something unusual, a C-pillar with a large piece of sheetmetal riveted behind the rear doors to stretch the body, plus a longer wheelbase. The latest generation Genesis sedan was always spotted testing with BMW 5 Series. So we expected that this car is the next-gen Equus. Now we have the first spy pictures on production format.
The new generation Hyundai Equus will debut as a 2016 or 2017 model year and will include V8 engines and All-Wheel Drive for the first time. The current Hyundai Equus was launched at the 2010 New York AutoShow. Stay tuned for more info soon!

2016 Hyundai Equus spied in Scandinavia

2016 Hyundai Equus spy photo / Automedia

2016 / 2017 Hyundai Equus has been spied undergoing testing on a frozen lake in Scandinavia.
Dressed in heavy camouflaged, the redesigned flagship has an upright grille which is flanked by distinctive headlights. We can also see door-mounted mirrors, large taillights and a dual exhaust system. Furthermore, the roof and pillars seem to mimic those used on the Chrysler 300.
Little is known about the car itself but it will likely feature a 5.0-liter V8 engine that develops at least 420 bhp (313 kW) and 383 lb-ft (518 Nm) of torque. It should be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to a newly optional all-wheel drive system.
Hyundai hasn't had much to say about the car but speculation suggests the next-generation Equus could be previewed by a concept at the New York Auto Show.

Scooped: Next-Gen Hyundai Equus Caught Again with Interior Photos

Today we received the latest set of spy pictures of the next-generation Hyundai’s flagship luxury sedan, the 2016 Equus. Spotted for the first time in production form in South Korea in December, the car could be revealed as a concept car at the nearly 2015 New York International AutoShow held in April 3rd.

Now the car was spotted inside a South Korean parking while the front and rear seats (no seats behind) were undisguissed but the dashboard continue under a large piece of black cloth. The re-engineered Equus will come with new sheet metal designed by Peter Schreyer including a redesigned instrument panel and center stack, along with a new front fascia and grille design and other updates.
The new generation Hyundai Equus is scheduled to debut as a 2016 or 2017 model year and will include a V8 engine, and All-Wheel Drive for the first time. The current Hyundai Equus was launched at the 2010 New York AutoShow. Stay tuned for more info soon!

Third generation Hyundai Equus shows its lower roofline in latest spy pics

2016 Hyundai Equus spy photo / S. Baldauf / SB-Medien

Could be previewed by a concept later this year

The all-new Hyundai Equus has been caught on camera once again conducting winter testing.
The flagship sedan is about to reach third generation which will come with significant styling changes compared to the outgoing model, with the most obvious one being the lower roofline. In addition, the front fascia will go through cosmetic surgery and will adopt a larger grille in the same vein as the Genesis. The third side windows appear to be a tad bigger so expect a roomier cabin while the LED taillights have different graphics compared to the second-gen model.
Designed by Peter Schreyer, the overhauled Hyundai Equus will be offered as standard just like before with a rear-wheel drive layout but there are some reports indicating the availability of an optional all-wheel drive system to allow Hyundai better compete with the big names in the full-size luxury sedan segment dominated by the Germans.
A concept previewing the third generation Equus could be revealed as early as April at the 2015 New York Auto Show, with the production model arriving towards the end of the year as a 2016MY.

2016 Hyundai Equus interior spied showing generous use of wood

A new spyshot revealing interior of the 2016 Hyundai Equus has surfaced on TheKoreanCarBlog.com. The flagship vehicle will enter its third-generation with the introduction either late this year or next year.
The all-new luxury sedan will share its underpinnings with the second-generation Genesis and is likely to be powered by V6 and V8 petrol engines. Unless Hyundai readies the new 10-speed automatic transmission in time, an 8-speed automatic transmission should be standard on the range.

The spyshot reveals extensive use of wood trim and leather. We notice wooden panels on the dashboard, the door panels and the centre console, with silver inlays. The wooden finish matches very well with the beige interior. However, the black dashboard (let’s hope that its a dummy on the test mule) simply does not go with the overall interior theme. An even more unusual element is the beige floating horn console that looks like after-market fitment.

The wooden touches are also seen on the back of the front seats, with thick silver garnish on its top and thin gold accent below. There’s also a rear air conditioning vent and the comfort is further uplifted with a well-bolstered rear bench and generous legroom.

Spied: 2017 Hyundai Equus, Kia K900

Gallery (17 images) Next

Prev

Despite less than brisk sales, the Hyundai-Kia group doesn't look like it's giving up on the high-end sedan segment any time soon. The next-generation of the automaker's Hyundai Equus and Kia K900 were recently spotted by our spy photographers undergoing warm weather shakedown testing.

Hyundai's new Equus will be given a more German flair as its tries to lure buyers away from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8. You can even see some Mercedes influence in the Equus' LED taillights. Other styling cues are expected to be drawn from the Genesis sedan.

Although not a ground up redesign, the new Equus will ride on a heavily revised version of the current car's BH rear-wheel drive architecture. Thanks to the use of more high-strength steel and aluminum, the next Equus will be quite a bit lighter than the car currently on sale today.

A revised version of Hyundai's 5.0L V8 is said to be on tap for the Equus. Improvement will be made to both performance and fuel economy. It's also rumored that the next Equus could get a twin-turbocharged version of Hyundai's 3.3L V6, but that engine may be held back until the car's mid-cycle refresh in 2019. A 10-speed auto is also rumored, but that transmission might not be ready for the Equus' initial market launch. Hyundai's current eight-speed auto will stand as a placeholder.

Helping its odds in cold weather states, the new Equus will be available with all-wheel drive.

Hyundai subsidiary Kia is also planning some changes to its flagship sedan. Those alterations won't go as deep as those planned for the Equus, but we can at least expect some new front- and rear-end styling. Judging by this prototype's hood ornament, the next K900 might even come equipped with some technology sourced from Wayne Enterprises.

Look for both luxury sedans to debut sometime next year for the 2017 model year.

Next-gen Hyundai Equus spotted horsing around in desert

The last time we showed you the next-generation Hyundai Equus, the northern hemisphere was in the depths of winter and the big luxury sedan was testing above the Arctic Circle. Now, as we're approaching the end of summer, the South Korean company is rather fittingly conducting hot weather testing in the American southwest.

As with our last look at the Equus, today's images show a heavily camouflaged car. Said camo, which includes both coverings and more form-fitting stickers, can't hide the overall size of this vehicle. It's a big'un, especially behind the B-pillar. From what we can see through the front camouflage, the Equus should draw some inspiration from the Vision G concept. In short, expect a sportier, more assertive look than what's currently offered on Hyundai's flagship.

This particular car is allegedly fitted with a version of the company's Tau 5.0-liter V8, which serves in both the current Equus and the smaller Genesis sedan. It's paired with a ten-speed automatic – yes, ten forward gears... on a car – while our spies reiterated previous reports that a new turbocharged V6 would also be on offer.

Importantly, this latest gallery of spy photos gives us our first look at the new Equus' cabin. Again, there's heavy camouflage here, but we can get a look at the handsome leatherwork on the two-tone steering wheel and the stylish silver hue of the HVAC buttons. It also looks like Hyundai will retain a knob-and-button-style controller for the infotainment system, which will be housed in an expansive display at the tip top of the dash.

2017 Hyundai Equus spied with a ultra-luxurious interior

2017 Hyundai Equus spy photo / Automedia

Work continues on the 2017 Hyundai Equus as our spies have caught the model undergoing hot weather testing in the United States.
While we've already seen the car on several different occasions, the latest batch of spy photos gives us a pretty good glimpse at the interior. As you can see, Hyundai is really stepping up their game as the cabin is downright luxurious as it boasts perforated leather seats with contrasts piping. The sedan also has elegant wood trim, metallic accents and higher quality switchgear. Other notable highlights include a Lexicon audio system, heated / ventilated rear seats and Audi A8-inspired wood and metallic trim on the rear seatbacks.
The front passenger compartment is heavily camouflaged but features a two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel and an infotainment system with a wide display. We can also see a redesigned center console and a steering-wheel mounted shifter.
Hyundai has been tight-lipped about the model but it will likely be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that develops at least 420 bhp (313 kW) and 383 lb-ft (518 Nm) of torque. It will be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to a newly optional all-wheel drive system.

2017 Hyundai Equus Spotted Again

Today we saw a new set of spy pictures of the next-generation 2017 Hyundai Equus flagship saloon at Auto Tribune and we decided to share with you.

The next-gen 2017 Equus will follow the design cues under Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. The car was spotted again in South Korean while the re-engineered flagship showed the rumored new sheet metal, with a new design line starting after the front wheel arch and that probably continues alongside the doors (see the picture below). The 2017 Hyundai Equus will be designed by Peter Schreyer and will also features a redesigned instrument panel, center stack and rear LED tailights, plus latest safety such as Smart Cruise Control, Around View Monitor and infotainment systems, and tablets for passengers.

The new generation 2017 Hyundai Equus is scheduled to debut as a 2016 or 2017 model year and will include a V8 engine, and All-Wheel Drive for the first time through an 8-speed automatic, Hyundai is also working on a newer 10-speed automatic transmission, which may become available by the time the Equus arrives in the market.. The current Hyundai Equus was launched at the 2010 New York AutoShow.
The 2017 Hyundai Equus will ride on a stretched version of the Genesis Mk2’s platform featuring a new multi-link rear suspension that was fine-tuned with a little help from Lotus. Rumors also said will use a 3.3 V6 Twin Turbo engine, but is not confirmed.

2017 Hyundai Equus KDM-spec confirmed for December reveal

2017 Hyundai Equus KDM-spec confirmed for December reveal

Hyundai has disclosed plans to unveil the KDM-spec 2017 Equus flagship sedan in December.
The company’s range-topping model has been spotted numerous times by our spy photographers featuring a more upmarket exterior appearance thanks to the company’s latest interpretation of the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design theme. It will also have a significantly more luxurious interior cabin which among others will have heated & ventilated rear seats, Lexicon sound system, new infotainment system, perforated leather seats, new metallic accents and a wood trim.
More importantly, the third generation Equus will likely receive a newly developed 3.3-liter T-GDi turbocharged gasoline engine which is estimated to deliver somewhere in the region of 365 bhp (272 kW). Expect Hyundai to offer its new full-size sedan with an eight-speed automatic transmission and there also might be a first-time optional all-wheel drive arrangement. There are also some talks concerning the availability of a ten-speed automatic gearbox and a new multi-link rear suspension, but we will have to wait for an official confirmation from Hyundai.
Taking into account the spy shots have shown prototypes with bigger third side windows, it’s safe to say the new Equus will be larger than its predecessor and it will actually be one of the first models to be fully designed by Peter Schreyer. The elongated wheelbase will enable more room inside the cabin, especially for rear passengers while in terms of technology there will be full LED headlights & taillights, autonomous emergency braking system and other goodies to make the Equus more competitive in a market dominated by the S-Class, 7-Series and A8 trio.

Default Hyundai "GENESIS" brand

Hyundai will launch Genesis brand in December

Lineup Will Consist Of Six Products By 2020

Hyundai is about to go global with a new, high-end sub-brand called Genesis. Rumors of this spinoff have been swirling for years, but an announcement Tuesday confirms that the Genesis brand will launch in December of this year.

"To elevate and differentiate the Genesis brand from Hyundai, a distinct design identity, emblem, naming structure, and customer service offering is being established," the automaker said in a statement.

A Korean report states that Genesis will kick off with a new version of the Equus, set to launch next month, called G90. The rest of the lineup will follow suit with that naming structure (Infiniti isn't using it anymore, after all). The Genesis sedan as we know it will be called G80, and a new midsize model will be G70. A luxury SUV and sport coupe will round out the range, and all six models will launch by 2020. The rear-wheel-drive, midsize sedan is expected to debut in the second half of 2017.

In order to properly create an identity of its own, Hyundai is creating the Prestige Design Division. Beginning in mid-2016, this group will be lead by Luc Donckerwolke, who was formerly responsible for design at several Volkswagen Group brands, including Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Seat, and Skoda. Hyundai Motor Group's chief design officer, Peter Schreyer, will oversee the work of Donckerwolke's new division.

Genesis will initially launch in North America, China, Korea, and the Middle East. Hyundai says it will expand to Europe and other parts of Asia as Genesis grows.

"The Genesis models will provide technological innovation, excellent driving performance and luxury to customers. Every Genesis model will be created with the needs of our customers in mind, so the resulting car will perfectly meet their needs without any unnecessary burden or excess," said Woong-Chul Yang, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor.

Hyundai's full announcement can be found here, or in the press release below.

Hyundai Motor Launches New Global Luxury Brand, 'Genesis'

- New 'Genesis' brand will compete with the world's leading luxury car brands
- Six-model line-up begins roll-out from December catering for 'new luxury'
customers, delivering personalized and human-centered experiences
- Refined performance, athletic elegance in design and human-focused innovation
will elevate the Genesis brand

November 4, 2015 - Hyundai Motor has announced an all-new global luxury brand – Genesis – that will deliver 'human-centered' luxury through a range of new models that feature the highest standards of performance, design and innovation.

Created for a new generation of discerning consumers, Genesis will be a stand-alone brand that operates alongside the company's popular Hyundai marque. Capitalizing on its success in the fast-growing global car market, Hyundai Motor will launch six new Genesis models by 2020 and will compete with the world's most renowned luxury car brands.

The Genesis brand seeks to create a new definition of luxury, one that will provide a new platform for future mobility centered on people. By anticipating human needs at every touch point, Genesis models will embody four key aspects: Human-focused innovation, refined and balanced performance, athletic elegance in design and hassle-free customer experience.

"We have created this new Genesis brand with a complete focus on our customers who want smart ownership experiences that save time and effort, with practical innovations that enhance satisfaction. The Genesis brand will fulfill these expectations, becoming a market leader through our human-centered brand strategy," said Euisun Chung, Hyundai Motor Company Vice Chairman.

Genesis models will boast outstanding driving dynamics and design, with innovations tailored to closely-meet the needs of customers. The new model line-up will distance itself from the traditional technological overload of brand-focused competitors, concentrating instead on a personalized, hassle-free customer experience. Continuing the customer-oriented approach that flows through every Genesis model, sales and service staff will provide rapid and attentive service to customer's requests.

To elevate and differentiate the Genesis brand from Hyundai, a distinct design identity, emblem, naming structure and customer service offering is being established.

Genesis models will be badged with a new wing-type emblem, redesigned from the version used on the current Genesis model to create an even more luxurious look. This emblem firmly cements the Genesis models as a collective family of luxury models under the Genesis nameplate.

The Genesis brand will also adopt a new alphanumeric naming structure. Future models will be named by combining the letter 'G' for Genesis with a number, 90, 80 or 70 etc., representing the segment.

Woong-Chul Yang, Head of Hyundai Motor R&D Center and Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor said, "The Genesis models will provide technological innovation, excellent driving performance and luxury to customers. Every Genesis model will be created with the needs of our customers in mind, so the resulting car will perfectly meet their needs without any unnecessary burden or excess."

Fitted with the latest proactive safety technologies, intuitive convenience features and IT connectivity, Genesis models are engineered to provide excellent ride comfort while retaining confident sportiness.

To develop a distinctive and differentiated design for the new Genesis brand vehicles, Hyundai Motor has created a Prestige Design Division. From mid-2016 Luc Donckerwolke, who was previously responsible for the design of Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, SEAT and Skoda models at the Volkswagen Group, will lead this new division alongside his role as Head of the Hyundai Motor Design Center. The work of the new Prestige Design Division will be overseen by Peter Schreyer, as part of his group-wide design responsibilities as President and Chief Design Officer (CDO) of Hyundai Motor Group.

Peter Schreyer commented, "In creating the design signature of Genesis brand cars, we set out to display confidence and originality, creating highly desirable products that present new charm through innovative styling and proportions."

The name 'Genesis', which also means new beginnings, hints at the new values and standards that the brand will bring to the global luxury car market. Initially on sale in the Korean, Chinese, North American and Middle Eastern luxury car markets, the Genesis brand will expand its reach to Europe and other parts of Asia as the model range grows to full strength.

Setting the brand's cars apart from competitors, innovation will begin with the consumer, with customer requirements directing development. This philosophy echoes the vision of Hyundai Motor to be a 'lifetime partner in automobiles and beyond', with the 'Modern Premium' brand direction of Hyundai reinterpreted for the new Genesis marque.

The Genesis G90 Will Be Hyundai's Flagship Replacement For The Equus

12345...8
It seems Hyundai is moving pretty fast announcing details on their upcoming Genesis luxury brand. We have a name for Genesis’ top flagship sedan, G90, and even a sketch of what it will look like—as well as what car it replaces in the Hyundai family.
In a news release, Hyundai officials said the G90—which will be called the EQ900 in Korea, for reasons that elude me—will be the “blueprint for change and innovation that will distinguish the Genesis brand.” Automotive News points out that the EQ900 goes on sale in Korea next month (!) and takes the place of the Equus, which is set to be phased out.
There will be two sedans below that, the publication reports: a G80, replacing the current Genesis sedan, a smaller G70 sedan, and some kind of SUV.

No word yet on powertrains, equipment or any other major things we’ll want to know about these cars, but we have an idea of where Hyundai’s going with their designs.

Genesis G90 revealed in South Korea, comes with 3.3 biturbo and semi-autonomous tech

Genesis G90 teaser

Genesis G90 revealed in South Korea, comes with 3.3 biturbo and semi-autonomous tech

Genesis, the newly launched luxury brand from Hyundai, has revealed the G90 sedan to Korean media.
It was only yesterday when the new premium company released teaser images of its first model and now we have all the juicy details about it. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8 rival received its debut in South Korea and will be available to order locally from December this year.
As expected, the engine range will consists of three petrol units - a 3.8-liter V6 GDI with 334 HP (246 kW), a range-topping 5.0 V8 with 425 HP (313 kW) and a new 3.3-liter V6 biturbo motor with 370 HP (272 kW). These will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and optional all-wheel drive system.
Other technical highlights of the 5.2-meter long sedan include Hyundai’s Variable Control Suspension system and the Highway Driving Assist system that provides semi-autonomous driving features. Jang Rag, executive vice president who supervised the G90 project, added that “through our telematics program, Blue Link, we will also provide emergency rescue systems including air bag activation.”
The interior of the luxury sedan is equipped with “first class VIP seats” that can be adjusted to three different positions – relaxing, reading and video-watching, at the touch of a button on the armrest.
Hyundai re-confirmed the Genesis brand will launch at least four models in the coming years. “We will add G80 and G70 sedans alongside sport utility vehicles and sports coupes to our lineups to complete the world of our new luxury brand Genesis,” Hyundai Motor vice chairman Yang Woong-Chul announced.

Spied: Genesis G90 to get lux interior, turbo V6

Following hot on the heels of Hyundai's teaser for its upcoming Genesis luxury brand, our spy photographers have nabbed the first interior photos of the G90 flagship sedan.

At first glance it looks as though the G90 will tick all the requisite luxury boxes. A large LCD screen similar to the one used in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sits atop the G90's dash, although it looks like the instrument cluster is partly analog rather than totally digital. The rest of the center stack appears to be finished in gloss black and aluminum accents.

The G90's center console houses a wheel dial to control infotainment functions. There are also dedicated buttons for things like seat ventilation. And, being a luxury car, the G90 is outfitted with plenty of leather and wood accents.

As a bonus, our spy photographers also managed to snap a few shots of this test fleet's identifying documents, revealing that the G90 will be available with a new 3.3L turbocharged V6. In addition to the new V6, the G90 will also be available with Hyundai's familiar 5.0L V8, but expect a bump in power to accommodate the turbo-six below.

All-wheel drive will make an appearance in the G90, which has been lacking from the Hyundai Equus' options sheet. The AWD system will be optional with the V6 and standard on V8 models.

It's possible that the Genesis G90 could makes its first appearance on U.S. shores at the 2016 Detroit auto show.

Genesis G90 to be revealed on December 9 with minor price hike

Genesis G90 to be revealed on December 9 with minor price hike

Hyundai has announced the Genesis G90 will receive its official premiere in South Korea on December 9.
The Equus is on its way to retirement as Hyundai’s full-size sedan will make the switch to the newly founded Genesis luxury sub-brand that was announced earlier this month. Along with the brand name change, the model will lose its “Equus” moniker in favor of the rather uninspiring “G90” nameplate and this will be the first of six models to form the Genesis lineup by the end of the decade. The flagship model has already been teased and will get a proper reveal in its domestic market on December 9 and it will be sold there as the “EQ900.”
According to a high-rank company official, the EQ900 will be a little bit more expensive than its predecessor as a result of the model’s repositioning. He went on to specify the car’s new status will not command a significant premium, but at the same time he admitted there will be an increase given the upgraded components and the new technologies set to be implemented in the range-topper.
From what we know so far, the Genesis EQ900 / G90 will be motivated by a 3.8-liter V6 GDI naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 334 PS (246 kW), a newly developed twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 with 370 PS (272 kW), and a larger V8 5.0-liter N/A engine that will produce 425 PS (313 kW). All three of them will be linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an optional AWD setup.
Following the G90’s release, the lineup will grow to include the Hyundai Genesis-replacing G80, a smaller G70 sedan, coupe, mid-size crossover, and a big SUV. The G90 will go on sale in South Korea in December while the rest of the world will have to wait until early next year.

Hyundai's Genesis brand to offer a BMW 3-Series competitor

Hyundai's Genesis brand to offer a BMW 3-Series competitor

Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski has confirmed the recently announced Genesis brand will eventually offer a sedan to battle the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, and Mercedes C-Class.
Speaking to Wards Auto, Zuchowski said there is an "entry-level sedan coming" and will be about the same size as the 3-Series. He went on to suggest the model could spawn a couple of derivatives including a crossover.
Speaking of crossovers, Zuchowski countered earlier reports suggesting the Genesis brand could offer a traditional body-on-frame SUV. Instead, he says the luxury brand will have crossovers that ride on car-based platforms.
There's no word on when the models will arrive but the Genesis brand will formally be launched next year when the company introduces the G90 which will replace the Equus. The brand's lineup will eventually grow to include six models including replacements for the Genesis sedan and coupe.
Hyundai has high hopes for the Genesis brand but Zuchowski confirmed Genesis models won't be sold at every Hyundai dealer. He also said the company won't force dealers to build a separate showroom as he believes dealerships will naturally come to that decision as the brand's lineup expands and demand grows.

Genesis G90 photographed undisguised ready to tackle luxury segment

Genesis G90 photographed undisguised ready to tackle luxury segment

The Genesis G90 is making an early unofficial debut courtesy of several images showing an undisguised pre-production prototype.
We don’t have to wait for the model’s reveal set for December 9 as these pics from South Korea reveal the car’s exterior design and the “EQ900” lettering as it will be known locally. For the rest of the world, Hyundai’s newly developed Genesis brand will sell the flagship model with the “G90” moniker and the car will effectively replace the outgoing Equus.
Previewed by a couple of teasers released earlier this month, the G90 is obviously a full-size sedan that will aim to grab more sales in the highly competitive luxury segment. It will be a tad more expensive than its predecessor, but this isn’t really a surprise given the model’s new status as a truly premium model.
In terms of engines, customers will get to choose from a 3.8-liter V6 GDI with 334 PS (246 kW), a new 3.3-liter V6 twin-turbo with 370 PS (272 kW) and a 5.0-liter V8 rated at 425 PS (313 kW). These three motors will be coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels, but an optional AWD will likely be offered as well.
The “elegantly designed” exterior as its being described by Genesis will be combined with a “technology packed” interior featuring a more upscale fit and finish as you would expect from a premium large sedan.
The G90 / EQ900 will go on sale next month at home in South Korea before hitting international markets in 2016.

Genesis EQ900 Render by Phoenix Graphix

The new Genesis EQ900 is almost out and we asked our good friend Ozzie from the Phoenix Graphx to visualize the new model soon to be shown in december.

The new Genesis EQ900 is almost out and we asked our good friend Ozzie from the Phoenix Graphix to visualize the new model soon to be shown in december. This was made from the sketches, veiled preview and the camouflage. We have the same hexagonal signature grill from Hyundai but this time even larger and on top the Wings Genesis emblem. The headlights will come with HID as standard, looking at headlights we have a new design with DRL lights running across. Down below we get a LED for fog lights, something very similar to the Genesis sedan.
We feel there is a strong influence on the G90 from the concept model Vision G Coupe shown in Los Angeles, the front and side of the coupe has been emboided to the G90. The dimension for the Genesis G90 are 5,205 mm long, 1,915 mm wide, 1,495 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm.
Just like all new models from Hyundai Motors, the new G90 will sport about 51.7% of the high-strength steel making the G90 lighter but at the same twice strong.
We have confirmed this engine lineup for the EQ900, 3.8 Lambda V6 GDi with 334 hp and 40.3 kg.m, 3.3 Lambda V6 Turbo GDi with 370 hp and 52 kg.m, and a range-topping 5.0 Tau V8 GDi with 425 hp and 53 kg.m. All variants will probably be paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and we might find the HTRAC AWD system as standard.
This EQ900 will compete with the BMW 7 series, Mercedes Benz S-class and Lexus. It was said there won’t be an increase of prices, so we are expecting a starting price of 61,500 dollars.

Genesis gets more than 4,300 G90 orders in 24 hours

Genesis gets more than 4,300 G90 orders in 24 hours

The Genesis G90 is off to a strong start as the company has announced the model has received more than 4,300 pre-orders for a day in South Korea.
The new premium brand of Hyundai will reveal its first model on December 9, but we already saw it in its full glory earlier this week through several spy photos. Now it has emerged the G90 (EQ900 in South Korea) has received 4,342 pre-orders in less than 24 hours in its homeland.
Back in February 2009, the predecessor of the full-size sedan, the Hyundai Equus, got 1,180 pre-orders, while in November 2013 the Genesis received 3,331 pre-sales.
“Considering that this is a full-size luxury sedan offered at high price ranges, this has been an unbelievable sales performance,” a spokesman of Hyundai Motor commented to Korea JoongAng Daily. “We believe that the success of the existing Genesis sedan has developed a decent brand power for Hyundai Motor, and our aggressive marketing strategies of Hyundai’s most recent high-end car technology and safety features … are working out well.”
You don’t have to wait until the official premiere of the model to know its technical details, as we already discovered it will be offered with three petrol units. The lineup includes a 3.8-liter V6 GDI naturally aspirated gasoline unit with 334 HP (246 kW), a newly developed twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 with 370 HP (272 kW), and a range-topping V8 5.0-liter engine with 425 HP (313 kW). All three of them will be linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an optional AWD setup.
The Genesis G90 is expected to go on sale internationally in 2016.

Genesis G90 goes official as Hyundai’s first premium model

This is it. Hyundai’s first ever true luxury model has made its online debut as the Genesis G90 (EQ900 in South Korea).
Hyundai is ready to retire the Equus to replace it with its new G90 that serves as a flagship model part of the newly founded Genesis luxury sub-brand. It does look significantly more upscale on the outside than its predecessor thanks to an elongated hood and a prominent hexagonal grille featuring a chrome finish. Those multi-spoke wheels add a bit of style, while the vertically positioned taillights flowing down the rear end are also a nice touch. Lots of exterior metallic accents contribute to the premium feel and that sense of a more upmarket car continues on the inside.
There aren’t a lot of photos showing the cabin at this point, but from what we can see, Genesis will offer the G90 / EQ900 with a chocolate leather upholstery, lots of wood trim, and a rear-seat entertainment system with 9.2-inch tablets. The center console goes from the front all the way to the back where the rear passengers control the electrically-operated seats and numerous other functions. More importantly, there’s substantially more rear legroom as the wheelbase has been stretched by 4.5 inches (115 mm) to 124.4 inches (3160 mm).

Going through the South Korean press release (using Google Translate), we managed to find out the G90 will get a Lexicon sound system, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, and a three-zone “smart” climate control system. Genesis says NVH levels are down compared to the Equus and the car comes with triple door seals, double glass insulation and other tweaks to ensure a comfortable and quiet ride.

In terms of engines, the Genesis G90 will be powered by a Lambda 3.8 V6 GDi, Lambda 3.3 V6 T-GDi, and a Tau 5.0 V8. The most interesting of the bunch is the new 3.3 featuring a twin-turbo setup and pushing out 370 hp (276 kW) and 377 lb-ft (510 Nm). As you would expect, the proprietary H-TRAC permanent all-wheel drive system is implemented.

Sales of the KDM-spec Genesis EQ900 will kick off in the first half of 2016, with the international G90 arriving in the second half of the year.

New Genesis G90 flagship promises 'first class' experience

TOKYO -- Genesis, South Korea’s first premium auto brand, unveiled a flagship sedan it promises will compete in the “top of the luxury car market” with “world best” technologies.
The Genesis G90, the first of six Genesis nameplates to be rolled out through 2020, was unveiled today in Seoul.
Superior safety, comfort and performance are key goals for the Genesis G90, as parent company Hyundai Motor Co. targets a bigger slice of the global luxury segment and its fat profit margins.

Some 800 people worked four years on the G90, Hyundai said.

The car, called the EQ900 in Korea, gets a suite of automated driving and safety technologies dubbed Genesis Smart Sense.

The package bundles smart cruise control, lane-keeping assist and other technologies that aim to reduce driver fatigue. In Korea, it also gets a feature called Highway Driving Assistance.

“This combination of newly developed technologies create a first-class, all-but autonomous driving experience, elevating the G90 to the top of its class,” Hyundai said.

Three engines
Under the hood, the G90 gets a choice of three gasoline engines teamed with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The options span a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6, a 3.8-liter V-6 or 5.0-liter V-8 powerplant. The V8 can go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (0-62 mph) in 5.7 seconds.

Engineers tried to deliver sporty and responsive ride and handling by fine tuning the car at Hyundai’s European Test Centre at Germany’s demanding Nürburgring racing circuit.
Hyundai Motor announced plans to spin off the Genesis luxury brand in November, after 15 years of refining its luxury cars. The G90 will be the new brand's range-topping model and a successor to the Hyundai Equus, which will be phased out.

Hyundai began taking orders in Korea for the G90 on Nov. 23. Its sticker ranges from 73 million won ($61,900) to 117 million won ($99,200). The outgoing Hyundai Equus, by contrast, ranges from 67.8 million won ($57,490) to 143 million won ($121,260).

Hyundai has said Genesis will be a stand-alone marque that operates alongside its Hyundai-brand sibling. Genesis cars will initially go on sale in the North American, Korean, Chinese and Middle Eastern markets. The brand will expand its reach to Europe and other parts of Asia as the model range grows.

Safety first
Among the G90’s advanced safety features are an autonomous braking system with pedestrian detection, active blind-spot detection, a driver attention alert system, high-beam assist and an around-view monitor, Hyundai said.
Catering to comfort and convenience, Hyundai is deploying what it calls a world-first “Smart Posture Caring System” in the seating. The system automatically determines the overall position of the body to ensure optimal seating position.

Indeed, the driver’s seat features 22 ranges of adjustments, while the passenger seats offer 14 ways to personalize.
Up front, the center console gets a 12.3-inch high-definition screen. Air conditioning is divided into three zones.
To ensure a luxuriously smooth and quiet ride, Hyundai said engineers used sound-absorbing materials throughout the cabin and substructure and applied laminated glass to each window.

They even toned down tire noise through a hollow design for the 19-inch alloy wheels that channels air flow more quietly.

The result, Hyundai says, is best-in-class sound ratings.

Athletic elegance
Outside, the G90 debuts a new design language called “athletic elegance” that will lend the Genesis lineup a distinctive look.

In the G90, the large grille is crowned by the brand’s spread-wing emblem and flanked by sharp LED headlamps that aim to communicate a futuristic aura. A clean character line creases the entire side integrating a long hood and short overhangs.

The new brand will be made up of two models initially: The G90 replaces the current Equus, while a G80 succeeds the current Genesis sedan. The third will be a smaller sedan called the G70, followed by a coupe, a midsize crossover and a larger SUV.

2017 Genesis G90 Sedan

It's no longer an Equus—or a Hyundai.

Pour a glass of Macallan 30, request that your personal harpist strike some chords, and ease yourself into that nailhead leather chair in your mahogany-paneled library. We’re witnessing the birth of yet another luxury brand. In the mid-1980s, Honda launched Acura in the U.S. market and by the end of that decade, Toyota had yanked Lexus out of its hat and Nissan had conjured up Infiniti. Now, Hyundai is spinning off an all-new Genesis family of luxury vehicles from its mainstream lineup, leaving the Hyundai name to the plebes. The first Genesis product is here, and it’s called the G90. The intention, it seems, is to give your Mercedes-Benz S-class a mild fright.

To alleviate any confusion between the new Genesis brand and the existing Hyundai Genesis, a luxury sedan now in its second generation, know that the two are not mutually exclusive. The Genesis sedan will soon be renamed “G80” and will join this G90 under the Genesis brand banner. Whereas the Hyundai Genesis and its larger sibling, the Equus (which this G90 replaces), stood at arm’s length from mainstream models, both were sold as Hyundais. The new crop of Genesis cars will enjoy a more luxurious distance from regular Hyundais, much as Lexus is to Toyota and Acura to Honda. And the G90 is only the beginning; we’re told it will be joined by a stand-alone group of luxury vehicles that’ll number six strong by 2020. There’s also the matter of the boy-racer-ish Genesis coupe, but the next version of that car may be repositioned as a grand tourer and plugged into the new luxury brand with a G-tastic new name.

More than a 90

It’s probably best that you erase any memories bouncing around your noggin of the Hyundai Equus before considering the G90. While that sedan was a nice value, it was neither as large nor as finely crafted and cosseting as more-expensive full-size luxury sedans such as BMW’s 7-series, Audi’s A8, and the Mercedes S-class. We found it to be a solid competitor to Lexus’s LS460, but otherwise it carried whiffs of “first effort” throughout. Just as Hyundai significantly improved the current Genesis/G80 over its predecessor, it attempts to pull off the same feat with the G90.
Dimensionally, the G90’s 124.4-inch wheelbase, 204.9-inch overall length, and 75.4-inch width closely mimic those of the S-class. Those figures also mark increases of 4.5 inches, 1.8 inches, and 1 inch over the Equus, rendering the G90 as a properly large car. Better still, the long hood, upright grille, and formal roofline convey a dignified presence. Although the car’s face closely follows the pattern laid down by the current Hyundai Genesis sedan, the headlights’ forms are softer, and the vertical taillights lean into the rear quarter-panels to nicely set off a strong shoulder line that runs all the way to the front fenders. The overall design’s clear inspiration in the gorgeous Vision G concept confirms that the show car’s styling cues have a future on the Genesis products to come. The outgoing Equus—with its excess chrome, awkward detailing, and generally undistinguished and generic styling—looks downright cheap by comparison.

Genesis applied the same restraint to the G90’s interior, and a preliminary list of features suggest a lavish environment. There is a 12.3-inch wide-screen dashboard display, a Lexicon audio system, tri-zone climate control, a 22-way power driver’s seat, and “VIP” 14-way adjustable rear seats approved by Aktion Gesunder Rücken, a “German campaign for healthier backs.” Even more compelling—and equally Germanic—is the Smart Posture Caring (SPC) system, which “automatically adjusts the seat, steering wheel, outside mirror, and head-up display to the optimal position for the driver’s body.” Genesis notes that SPC is so far confirmed only for the Korean market, but we see no reason such a neat feature wouldn’t fly in the U.S.—assuming, of course, that it works well. Other conveniences include advanced adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist functions that aren’t detailed beyond the promise of creating “a first-class, all-but-autonomous driving experience.”
A Trio of Engine Choices

Choice is luxury, and at least in Korea, the G90 will offer buyers three engine options. A 311-hp 3.8-liter V-6 as seen in the Genesis/G80 is the base engine, while another shared powerplant, a 420-hp 5.0-liter V-8, crowns the line. In the middle sits an all-new twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6, which churns out 365 horsepower. This is the engine we’re most interested in, since the “Tau” V-8 has been around for years and the entry-level V-6 might not make the U.S. engine roster. All engines are backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is the standard setup, while H-TRAC all-wheel drive is optional.

The G90’s chassis layout mimics that of the Genesis/G80, with a front and rear multilink suspension. New to the G90 is “Genesis Adaptive Control Suspension.” Details are scarce, and it isn’t confirmed whether this is a full air-sprung system or merely consists of adaptive dampers. Either way, every combination was tested on the Nürburgring, because even ice-cream trucks these days need “tuned on the Nürburgring” marketing taglines.
More to the point, such “me too!” European racetrack name-dropping seems less and less necessary for Hyundai’s luxury wares. The G90, with its winged hood badge, distinct styling, and apparently high level of execution, wouldn’t look out of place in a group photo with an Audi, BMW, Lexus, or Mercedes-Benz. Even though it will more realistically compete with Cadillac’s CT6 and Lincoln’s coming Continental, the G90 could still surprise with honed driving dynamics—ideally benefitting from Lotus’s input on the Genesis/G80’s agreeable ride-handling balance—and a finely crafted interior. Simply meeting the Germans on features and size won’t be enough, however; full entrance to the S-class and 7-series pantheon will require a high enough and suitably justified price. Those details are forthcoming, so perhaps pour yourself another glass of scotch and await the G90’s North American debut in January at the Detroit auto show.
