So after another shop in town wasn't able to paint 2 panels in Jet Stream Blue metallic tintcoat (more detail in other threads) EA recommended I contact a site sponsor, Sante Fe Auto Body.

I called up Josh and received a pretty normal quote and they immediately knew what materials were required and were confident they could do the job, so I pulled the parts out of the 1st shop and dropped them off at Sante Fe the same day.

Funny enough, it actually turned out that I'd met Josh before a while back when I was working on the Audi and he still recognized me and was able to recall where it was we knew each other from. Definitely a nice guy and easy to work with.

He was able to get the panels painted sooner than expected and the quality was great. I dropped by early to sneak a peek at the paint match and noticed a few dust marks and thought the orange peel may be a bit too heavy compared to the factory paint and he was able to remove them without issue and get the finish looking awesome. It was actually nice to see the 'before' to know they're that good at the post-paint work, which makes me think that almost every job probably comes out this good.

They matched the paint color off the targa top, which had a few curves to compare against the fender curves and it looks like they got really close on a difficult color. I still need to install them on the car, but I'm pretty confident the adjacent panels will blend in at least as well as I was hoping (~90%), maybe even better.

Thanks... I was there before HOB business hours, had to pick them up early since my afternoon was pretty full.

Badass. Did you consider having the factory gas lid door painted with the fenders? Seems like if it's not a 100% match, the door will make it super obvious.

Yea, I thought about it, but I want to be able to reinstall the stock fenders when I sell the car and if I repainted the gas lid, then it may not match the original fenders. Hopefully it'll blend in fine, if not, I may be able to take it to them and have them respray it to match when I have some other parts painted in the future.

I looked into that option and the used Z06 options. The grandsports just came out in '10 and were in the mid to upper 40's depending on options... same for the '08+ Z06's (only looking at that year range for the upgraded steering/gearbox/interior). I'd be looking for a trade-in deal to save on sales tax since I'm in KS, and I'm pretty sure my car would have a ~$32k trade in value. So I'd be looking to make up a $10k-14k difference. If I sold private party, I might get $35k, but then I still have to make up the difference and pay the sales tax. So lets just say either way it would cost me $10k to make the switch.

The full OEM fender kit ended up costing me a net of ~$800 and paint was $730. The Z06 bumper I have ordered was $505 and I assume paint will be ~$500ish. So I'm into the GS/Z look for about $2,500.

There's also a perk to having a 2009 LS3 6MT that I'll post about a month or so from now.

I didnt realize any car actually had these, as to be a fender it must bolt on, quarterpanels dont.

you can easily change any corvettes body color due to this... (C5 and C6)
