Default My new M235i

Back on December 5th I ordered a M235 from Baron. Baron required that I put a $2,000 deposit down because according to them, it would be very hard to sell the car due to the way I optioned it. The deposit didn't bother me because I knew it's what I wanted. Overall though, Baron was good to work with. The car showed up last Saturday and I've really been enjoying it since. The "hard to sell" specs:

Mineral White Metallic (you pay extra for this color because BMW)
Dakota red leather with piano black and hexagonal real aluminum trim
6MT (it's slower....but lighter and because I'm a man)
Moonroof delete (minus 40lbs from the top, no money back because BMW)
No navigation (because I know where I'm going)
Harmon Kardon stereo (because I lived with an OEM Subaru stereo for 4 years)
Parking assist (front/rear radar sensors, back up camera)
Cold weather package (heated steering wheel and front seats, headlamp washers)
Staggered wheels (18X7.5 front, 18X8 rear) with Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Notable standard features:
M Performance adjustable shocks
ECO Pro, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, DSC off settings (all change throttle and steering mapping, shock firmness, exhaust volume, and stability control intervention, ECO Pro is terrible)
Fully adjustable front seats with power adjustable side bolsters (AMAZING seats)
N55 twin scroll single turbo motor rated at 320hp/330tq (~305whp/320wtq stock)
M Performance steering wheel
Brembos
Same 6MT found in M3/M4, 10% more gearing than the 6MT 335/435 cars
There's an electronic valve in the muffler, fake engine noise piped through the speakers, and the airbox has a flap that opens above 3500rpms. I can't tell what's real and fake. LOL

It's taken some time to get used to the way it drives. The M235 has a very light clutch pedal, a heavy throttle pedal, and has fairly deep gearing. My 2012 WRX is the exact opposite on all accounts. The M235 is very easy to get going smoothly whereas the WRX was much harder to modulate and can be jerky if you're not careful. I'm breaking in the car per BMW's recommendations and trying keeping it below 4500rpms for the first 1,000 miles, but I do get on it on occasion (keeping it below 4,500) and giving it some strong load. The turbo spool is immediate and the torque surge is really strong (to me). It's very V8 like and reminds me of my buddy's old 5.0 notchback in terms of tip-in around town. The car will easily pull 1,700rpms in 5th at 40mph. The car feels like a vault and I'm not use to having something so remotely nice. I'm really loving it and can't wait for the temps to warm up and get some more miles on it so that I can put it through the paces.

Attached are some poor quality pics the evening I got it home. The Mineral White is such a sexy color. The pics don't show it, but it really pops the body lines and looks killer in all lighting conditions, especially at night under low light. It has a silvery glow.

Very nice.

Reminds me a bit of Dustin's 1er.

+10 man points for the manual

If you need a driver to figure out which is faster between the WRX and Bimmer let me know

It's missing a few cylinders. Can't be that fast.

Car looks good. Are these wider than the 1 series? Looks fatter in the ass

Fast? To me, yeah. To KCSR? Nope. With the 6MT, the mags have seen 13.3-13.4@106-107mph. The 8speed autos are around .3 seconds quicker and 2mph faster because of the improved gearing and no boost loss on shifts.

Yes, the 2 series is 3" longer and slightly lower and wider than the prior 1 series. Due to shrinking the side glass, extending the hood, and raking the back pillar more, BMW removed much of the "bull dog" look of the 1 series.

The car looks fairly small and low, but has good interior room. I'm 6' 2" and my friend who's 5' 9" can fit behind my seat and could stomach a 30 minute ride. The primary passengers would be my kids and they fit fine. It's very close in size to the E46 series BMW coupes.

Nice looking ride dude! Baron fucking up your car is guaranteed so get used to it. Anytime you drop it off to have work done do a walk around with your SA before you leave.

Good to know. Being a German car, I know it will be in the shop some (hopefully not much).

Any idea when the new BMW store is to open?

Hendrick is supposed to open this spring so anytime now & it's off 435 & State line. That motor & tranny are stout so you shouldn't have any issues. Just keep an eye out for scratches, dents ect when picking it up for maintenance. I've had 1/3 of my car repainted because of them & both times they tried handing the car back to see if I'd notice.

RWD. I would have considered the X, but they don't offer the 6MT in the M235Xi. The Xi's are rockets though. I believe is was Car and Driver that got a 12.9@109mph out of one. The quickest/fastest M235s are the Xs. They're easily in the 11s if drag racing is your thing. The automatic is pretty impressive.

Funny about the $2k deposit requirement with the manual trans. Some guys on the SS forum have been told that by dealerships too when ordering a 2016, even though all the 2015 manuals sold out and 100s of automatics are still sitting on lots.

Congrats on finally getting the car!
