Default Autos at ~$300

Looking to get an auto for EDC. Looking for something reasonable in size and not needing it to mall ninja myself out of a fight. Something fairly rugged and proven. Warranty would be nice as well.

Protech Runt
Protect Sprint
Benchmade Lerch Impel
Benchmade Mini Presidio

Those are along the lines of what I'm thinking. Anyone else have any other ideas similar to those?

I don't like huge knives in my pocket. Anything that I need to do with it during the day doesn't require it to have a 4+ inch blade.

That little schrade is a great little daily utility auto. I'd grab one of those first and see whatcha think! It also comes a bit bigger in the Smedey.

There are also quite a few really cheap varieties (20 to 30 bucks)from Schrade and Lightning.

One thing I wonder is what the State of Missouri considers a switchblade?

Quote:
Missouri statute defines a “knife” as any dagger, dirk, stiletto, or bladed hand instrument that is readily capable of inflicting serious physical injury or death by cutting or stabbing a person, unless it is an ordinary pocket knife, with a blade no more than four inches long. According to the Court in the State of Missouri v. Weir, a knife must also contain a folding blade that is not double-edged, in order to be considered a pocketknife.

A switchblade is defined by statute as any knife with a blade that folds or closes into the handle and that opens automatically or by the force of gravity.

A dagger was defined by the Missouri Supreme Court, in State v. Martin, as “a short weapon with a sharp point, used for stabbing”.
Would these and any assisted or automatic knives be considered illegal?

Autos have been legal to carry in MO for a couple of years, and legal in KS for about a year.

Check out the Pro-Tech TR-1, TR-2, TR-3, or TR-4.

The Kershaw Breakout is really low profile and lightweight. Discontinued for a few years, but you can find them for sale on knife forums or occasionally on ebay. The Pro-Tech TR-3 is similar to the Breakout.

Piranha and Paragon make some nice, durable autos too.

btw, gun show this weekend at KCI. Jim Magee will be there. He's always got tons of autos, and he just got back from Blade Show last weekend, so he'll have lots of cool, new stuff.

That's a great choice too! You really can't go wrong with anything from Pro-Tech or Microtech. I prefer side openers from Pro-Tech, and OTF from Microtech.

This is the exact model I currently carry:

I love the way they work, but somebody really needs to design a more ergonomic otf handle. Maybe it's me????

Can you hook me up with some legislation? All I can find is the "switchblade" language.

Damn, this looks nice, thought I would share! A full integral titanium with some nice design, not an auto, but looks pretty smooth and sick.

The only thing slowing me down on it is the carbon fiber. Not a huge fan of that. It would be much classier IMO if it were either a bone, or dark wood insert.

Yeah I agree, protech doesn't have anything like that around that price range.
