Default Genesis GV70

Genesis GV70 SUV Spied for the First Time

A picture of three mysterious Genesis SUVs were unveiled at the 2019 Hyundai Motor Group opening ceremony held on the first days of the new year and now we have the first proof of the second Genesis SUV, the GV70, is in the works.

The image was sent out during the announcement of the New Year’s Day by Hyundai Group Vice President of Hyundai Motors Group. He said, “Genesis will accelerate overseas expansion in China and Europe, and will aggressively expand its line-up including the first SUV model launched this year to strengthen global brand power.”
So now, if you take a look to the image below, which is a comparison between the Tucson test mule what concerns us today and original GV80 test mule based on the Santa Fe, you will find some similarities on the front wheel arch.
Despite the wheels look similar, there’s a strip on the wheelarch that points out we are in front of a car with a longer hood, something necessary to include bigger engines like the 3.3 TT that is available on the G70 sedan. Also this test mule looks longer and wider than the body is under.
Compariston between Tucson test mule and original GV80 test mule based on the Santa Fe.

Returning to the pic showcased at HMG event, the shape of the bonnet, the roof, and the side mirrors, as well as the size of the body are different on the three SUVs. The model’s bonnet at the left end emphasizes smoothness while the model at the right end has a clear bend and string.
This can be interpreted as a result of Genesis’s design philosophy, “Athletic Elegance.” “If the G80 has a 50:50 ratio of elegance and dynamics, the G70 has 70% dynamic and 30% elegance,” said Lee Sang-yeop, who is responsible of Genesis styling.

As Genesis plans to introduce the GV80 this year followed by the GV70, another model on the left-hand side can not be ruled out as Genesis’s flagship SUV, the so-called ‘GV90’.

2021 Genesis GV70: Design, Powertrains And Other Key Details On Luxury SUV

The Genesis brand will soon be a lot more than just prestige sedans, as the luxury division of Hyundai plans to roll out a six-strong model portfolio by 2021. One of these includes a compact luxury SUV called the GV70 that will follow the larger GV80. You can think of it as the crossover version of the G70 sedan in terms of size, going up against the likes of BMW’s X3 and X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLC Coupe.

Fortunately for us, a plethora of spy photography capturing the GV70 has given us a good insight into to what it will look like. However, what else can we expect from South Korea’s upcoming offering? Let us delve further.

Sensual exterior styling
Make no mistake, the GV70 is a bold statement that’s more in-line with BMW’s X4 than a traditional crossover. One major talking point is its sleek glasshouse with chrome-work flowing down over the c-pillars. It’s a sleeker adaptation of the same treatment used on Hyundai’s Palisade. Another noteworthy design element is a curved shoulder line that cascades down to the rear haunches, again emphasizing its elegant, yet sporting nature.

Photo Renderings Copyright Carscoops / Josh Byrnes

Frontal styling sports a large shield-framed mesh grille, split LED headlamps and a Bentley-like central crease on the hood. The view from the rear features split taillights that mimic the ones at the front, a large rear diffuser with dual vertical exhausts, and a steeply raked rear hatch that could have been plucked from Kia’s ProCeed sport brake.

Opulent accommodation inside
Interior design complements the exterior’s sleek nature, with cascading lines and ovoid shapes. Lashings of high-quality leathers and piano black trim will be used throughout the cabin, and the center console features a BMW iDrive-style controller. Whilst we’ve yet to lay eyes on the dashboard, we expect it to feature some form of tablet display and digital instrument cluster, being very close in design to the updated version of the G70 sedan that’s scheduled for release the same year.

Current 2019 Genesis G70 dashboard Technophiles will appreciate the 8-inch head-up display, 360-degree camera, smartphone mirroring, and a Lexicon premium sound system. A full suite of driver assists will be available; including lane-keeping aid, park assist, safe exit assist and a Tesla-like remote parking system (let’s hope that one is trouble-free).

Let’s talk power
As it’s based on the same platform as the G70, powertrains are likely to be mirrored too. These will include a 2.0-litre turbo-four, with north of 252 hp and 260 pound-feet (353 Nm) of torque, a new 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 303hp (226kW), and a thumping twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6 pumping out a staunch 365 hp and 376 lb-ft (510 Nm).

Other potential engine variants (not confirmed) include a 2.2 or 3.0-litre turbodiesel for international markets outside the U.S., and possibly a plug-in hybrid option. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard, feeding power to all four wheels.

Rivals and reveal
The GV70 will battle it out against a myriad of very good crossovers that include the likes of BMW’s X3 and X4, Audi Q5, Range Rover Evoque, Volvo XC60, Porsche Macan, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, Jaguar F-Pace, Infiniti QX50, and Lincoln Corsair.
Whilst its big brother, the GV80 SUV could debut this month with a market launch pegged for next year, the GV70 is tipped to arrive in North American dealerships approximately 12 months later, in 2021, when Genesis will also refresh the G70 sedan.

What will it cost?
Evidently, it’s too early to have pricing in our hands, but knowing that the related AWD G70 sedan begins from $37,450, we can speculate that the four-cylinder GV70 could start in the low $40,000s range, with the V6 in high $40,000s range.

2021 Genesis GV70 Rendering

After Genesis confirmed that their second SUV, the GV70 will arrive in 2021, today we have got a new rendering from Instagram user @saheoon.p where we can see how the BMW X3 rival could look, and looks promising, what do you think?

What we know so far?

Genesis GV70 Spied in South Korea

While Genesis first SUV, the GV80 continues undressing before coming soon debut, today we have got a new set of spy pictures courtesy of our colleagues at AutoPost of the second SUV to arrive from Hyundai’s luxury brand, the GV70.

What we know so far?
We have known about the three-SUV family thanks to an image that was sent out during the announcement of the New Year’s Day by Hyundai Group Vice President of Hyundai Motors Group. He said, “Genesis will accelerate overseas expansion in China and Europe, and will aggressively expand its line-up including the first SUV model launched this year to strengthen global brand power.”
While the bigger GV80 is aiming for the Mercedes GLE, the BMW X5 and the Audi Q7 the smaller GV70 will go after the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.

Engine line-up is set to be shared with the GV80, so it is going to use the new family of Theta III (2.5-liter T-GDi with 304 hp) and Lambda III (3.5-liter T-GDi with 380 hp) gasoline engines and probably the Smartstream Diesel 3.0-liter V6. All of this engines will be matted to a 8-speed automatic transmission.
So we expect that the Genesis GV70 will follow what we have seen on the G70 and has more sport ratio.
As Genesis plans to introduce the GV80 by the end of this year followed by the GV70, another model on the left-hand side can not be ruled out as Genesis’s flagship SUV, the so-called ‘GV90’.
