Chiefs Release Wide Receiver Sammie Coates

The Kansas City Chiefs have been under the watchful eye of the NFL this offseason as fans assess the team's moves as they attempt to reach the Super Bowl in 2019.

The Chiefs made a roster move on Friday, parting ways with wide receiver Sammie Coates after just a few months of being with the team.

Coates signed with Kansas City back in February of this year, and was released less than three months into his Chiefs tenure. Coates was previously a part of the Houston Texans, where he played 12 games last season and only had one reception.

Coates has been in the NFL for four years, spending his first two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who drafted him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. After two seasons with the Steelers, he went to Cleveland and played one season with the Browns before moving to Houston.

Coates has appeared in 45 games in his career, in which he has registered 29 catches for 528 yards. He has a career average of 18.2 yards per reception, showing his value as a deep threat, and has scored two touchdowns in six career starts.
