Default Planning: How do you Plan? HELP NEEDED

As my responsibilities, scope or work, daily emails keep increasing I find I am having a hard time keeping up with the endless TASKS that I must complete.

I have been using post it notes,to do lists, and most recently an excel sheet to keep track of all the tasks with due dates, owners, and color coding.

I would like a more automated process that helps me keep track of what to do and Prioritize.
Outlooks tasks/flags dont seem to work....Or maybe I'm using them wrong.

I don have any direct reports so all the planning strategy AND tasks end up on with me.

So.....What process do you all use to stay on track at work?

What is the timeline associated with your tasks? is it minutes/hours/days/weeks?

Very valid question.

Short term (minutes or a few hours) - I will generally open an email and type some quick notes in it and leave it open, or will leave something open on my computer to remind me. Then, before lunch or before the end of the day, I try to have as much of it cleaned up as possible.

Longer term, I like dry erase boards for more important stuff (it is more in your face and you have to actively erase it), or the outlook calendar for less important stuff.

I'm old school, I have a small notebook that I make my list in combined with opening emails into their own windows.

Lately I have been trying to go more digital. It's an uphill battle for me though. There are a couple of list apps that are pretty solid. Handle is one that I have recently used. Task list that is driven by dates. It also has a cool Gmail integration if you use Google at work (which we don't).

Couple of others I have tried.
Todoist
Wunderlist

Trello seems to get good reviews too but, I haven't used it.

I use a note pad, and will make organized lists, with a few lines between each task. This allows me to make notes, etc. as I work on each task, and I'll scratch them out as I get them done.

After a couple items get completed or I am running out of note space, I'll rewrite the whole thing. Rewriting the list is actually pretty helpful, as it helps keep every task on my mind, in case I forgot about something while working on other tasks.

That, as well as using a very intricate system of Outlook folders, flags, and priority colors. That is how I stay organized.

So if someone asks you what all you have been doing/completed do you keep track of tasks completed list?
I went to excel to kepe track of that because many dont realize how much stuff I have to do thats behind the scenes.

If I'm just doing a to do list, I just do iPhone notes.

My calendar is google calendar, but I use Jorte on my phone. Google doesn't give me a full month display.

Well, I do keep all of my note pads and pages, so it's not like I'm throwing away any of that documentation.

However, at my work, we use a ticketing system, so anytime I complete a task, it gets logged as a ticket. A lot of these tasks are kept as tickets in the system while I'm working on them but they're client facing, so what I can keep in them is somewhat limited. That is why I use the note pad, rather than relying solely on the ticket system.

I have everything organized online and go through the same steps about 3 times a day. It'a annoying but works for me.

I've discovered weekplan.net. It works similar to a Kanban board. You can even color code, move stuff around, check things off as you finish them, and have a list of "pending" stuff if they're not specific to a day.
