Default Bloodmoon / Lunar Eclipse April 2014

I pulled out the telescope and documented the moons transition as much as I could. Telescope is a Celestron Nexstar 8i with 40mm eyepiece. I don't own a decent camera, so all pictures are taken with my phone, an LG Optimus G. Also, had to fight with clouds through the entire shoot. Shot from Independence, MO. Hope anyone who missed the event gets some enjoyment out of it.

Getting set up...had to wait for clouds to clear to get started, so I missed some of the event. - 0122 hours

0138 hours - red really starting to show. Shot with the part of the moon not in eclipse out of frame because of contrast issue.

I'm thinking about investing in a DSLR, being as how I enjoy taking astronomy pics... That'll improve the quality just a tad, plus, I can get a t-ring adapter to iron out the focal point issues I have trying to line up a smartphone camera.

Great work - this is the best I got with my telescope, iPhone 5s and an Olloclip held up to the aperature:

Great color! That's one thing I was a tad disappointed in, but considering my camera, it was expected.

Thanks for the kudos - you REALLY need to center all the images you have and make an animation...

Hey, that's a good idea! I might try that... I don't do much editing, but I might be able to manage something. If I could somehow manage a fade between images that's be awesome.

Someone beat me to it. Not mine, nor my images. I may still try something with my pics just to get a kick out of it.

Well, fairly certain I'm more excited right now than I've been in a long time. I splurged for my birthday and ordered a Nikon D3200 with 18-55mm kit lens. Also ordered a t-ring and t-adapter for my telescope. Found out the 8-24mm eyepiece I got last week is threaded and can be used with the t-ring as well, essentially turning my telescope into a freaking huge telephoto lens... I'm gonna guess equivalent to a 2200mm lens. I look forward to sharing some photos with you guys. I'll also be working on learning how to shoot astronomy time lapses as well as star trail photos.

This is a little taste of what that new 8-24mm eyepiece can accomplish at about half magnification and using eyepiece projection with my phone camera, the same way I shot the Eclipse photos earlier in the thread.

Little update

Gonna try to take it out next clear day I'm off. According to the light pollution map, a good area for viewing is along I-35 mid-way between Emporia and Wichita.
