Default Some Cool FPV Multirotor Videos

So I have been getting pretty heavy into learning aerial photography and videography lately. I have a big hex copter right now and a couple of smaller quad copters. I just purchased a TBS Discovery made by Team Blacksheep. It is one of the best flyers and FPV quads you can get so I am pretty stoked.

Anyways, I just thought I would share a few of their videos, they are really cool!

As cool as the first video is... It just seems so wrong.

Im sure its like, one in a million odds. But all the rigging and cables being used, a malfunction or pilot error could potentially cause some serious problems for the workers. From costly delays, to health or life endangerment. I know, not very likely, but on something like that its hard to draw a line i guess.

Cool yes, but im almost glad they got in some for of trouble for it.

Think of all the potential invasions of privacy once these things become even more popular and affordable.

What do you think they are going to do...fly it into your house to spy on you whacking off? If your in public you can be filmed according to the supreme court. The law is set up to protect you from being filmed only in places defined as "a reasonable expectation of privacy".

Those MRs are simply amazing. That said I can't imagine what kind of new laws will be put in place once they become more mainstream. Hell, could you imagine when paparazzi get a hold of these? Imagine how crazy people would go if someone buzzed one around the White House. All that said, these are pretty badass and I want one

there was just a huge group mountain bike ride out in the everglades a couple weeks ago.

someone used a 'flying device' to film some of it.

awesome footage.

Looking at the shadow of that one it looks like the DJI Phantom. You can get those for around $650. They are fly by sight MR but are made to attach your go pro to it and download the video when you get it back. The Blacksheep guys use the Discovery and it is by far the most badass civilian toy... if you can even call it that. It's basically a realtime video drone. You fly it with a typically remote but you wear a set of video goggles and fly the thing like you are in it. Pretty cool stuff.

You guys gotta keep in mind. Most places there already are laws set up against them. Same as with any other RC plane or heli. Bad thing is there are a TON of feasible commercial applications for them, as the populartiy grows it is expected that the laws be revamped to allow for permits for commercial use. Only time will tell.

This guy in destin has one and tried to sell it to me for like $20k. I was shocked he was serious. I think it was a helicopter though. It had a mount for one of those panasonic luminx cameras or whatever.

He used his to take pictures for golf courses and beach resorts. You could probably make a killing doing that.

I'm thinking of making one myself, seems like parts are cheap, even all the electronics are cheap for the vehicle (when I say cheap, all parts seem to be under 200), radio seems to be the most expensive which can go from affordable to your imagination.

Tons of how-to's online.

Actually using video goggles to fly an unmanned aerial vehicle is against the law here in the US. Of course those laws where written in the days where a GPS heads up display added to the video seen by the pilot was the stuff of science fiction movies.

Aerial filming has been around for years with RC airplanes and helicopters. The change now is the affordability of brushless motors and controllers that are small and powerful enough to do anything with along with Li-Po batteries. The awesome part about the multi rotors is that you don't have to be a badass pilot to control them like you had to with the older helicopters.

Pretty cool stuff.

On a side note:

Note to self..... never EVER move to Florida. My love for mountain biking would be crushed and demolished if I lived there and rode that.... BORING!

Would not be surprised if that happens to someone somewhere. I can already see the potential for the hot new college campus 'candid' website (staged, of course).

We all know that it is alright to be filmed in public, however, I can see how it could cause legal unpleasantries when people fly these things above street level where one can see through buildings' windows and such.
My cousin uses one to film downhill races. He lives on a 7th story, and when he first bought it he was testing it by flying it from his balcony around the building, and his neighbors were definitely not happy about it.

I am just waiting for someone to try and fly one into someplace such as Area 51 to see what would happen.

Hurry up and get proficient with your new one. I have (2) ~$500,000 land auctions that I'm doing photography & video for in the next week. On any of the $1m+ land deals...we could probably afford to bring you out and do your thing for a day or two. Long ass drive from KC (5 hrs)...but I'm sure we could throw you enough $$$ to make it worth your time.

Mine flew great. I had a crappy go-pro and a bad servo, but here is an old video of my CineStar 6:

http://www.kcsr.org/showthread.php?t=107560

I don't have the pictures hosted anymore, and the video editing was a silly youtube thing. But my Sony Nex7 was perfect!

Meh. No more dangerous than flying a real helicopter/airplane over a populated area. Or the aerial cameras used now in pro sports.
