Default Cobalt ss vs 11+ 5.0 mustang

After leaving the mustang/f-body meet at us36raceway last night I ran into a blue or black 11+ mustang 5.0 in my 2010 Cobalt SS/TC.

I toyed with him for a bit, but he didn't seem to want to waste his time on a cobalt. A few miles down the road he got into it and I took chase with him slowly creeping up on me. Second run was more official, did a 40ish roll with me brake boosting. I instantly pulled past with him staying at my rear bumper, I never seen his lights pass my drivers side door. Those were the only runs we did. It sounded stock, other wise I don't think I would have stood much of a chance.

only mods are a GM stage one reflash and a 3" catless downpipe.

Nice kill, that's a surprising win for a pretty much stock cobalt..

Seems off.

I'd think the 5.0 would pull you pretty good.

Wording might be a bit off. We were side by side... he took off before I did, my boost spiked and quickly caught him, boost settled as he slowly creeped by me.

It's ok if you don't believe me, I figured he would have pulled harder too. Most people don't expect much out of a cobalt.

A stock 5.0 from a roll good job

Now had you slowed down to a slow roll or a dig race you would must likely be in for a hurting. From a high roll I'm not sure what you were expecting from a stock 5.0

I had to go re-read when you said "high roll."

Was unaware 40 was a high roll. 40 roll is about the sweet spot for the Cobalts.

No shit he would have lost from a dig. Although, I have seen tune only Cobalts go low 13's @ 110+.

I missed the 40mph I figured they were at highway speeds then went back and read it again. Either way I'm not surprised by the outcome if it was a stock 5.0

After some digging, it seems stock 5.0 cars are ~110-115 mph cars stock.

You're making it out like they run like the 3 valve cars.

Yeah, most of what I've seen stock is around this. Just thought that it would pull harder than that.

Default Cobalt ss vs 11+ 5.0 mustang

114-116mph is going to be a factory freak, or perfect conditions. Cat deletes and tune should be around that for most of the 5.0s out there. My car isn't a 120mph car that's for damn sure.

110mph would be average IMO.

So who won?
Your first post says he never passed your front door. Then your other post says he crept by you?

There were two races.

The Cobalts run pretty good. Running a boosted car from a roll is always bad for the naturally aspirated guys. Some people put too much faith in MPH in the 1/4 mile. It's not the end all to what your ET will be.

I didn't have any problems with NA V8's in my 400whp 2700lb Neon SRT. (From a bakers roll of course) 5.0's are heavy cars and don't roll race too well from what I have gathered STOCK that is. I think the race from the OP sounded about right. Those Cobalt SS Turbos are no joke.

Word my car is going on a diet this winter, front k-member and a arms, drive shaft, and lighter rear suspension parts and a rear seat delete. Hell I might even have to go on a diet too

From a dig I might or might not have a chance. There were 5.0's there that night running 9.0-10.0, most had problems out of the hole. Same with the one and only turbo cobalt there, he ran a 9.0

Quick search says you have a srt4n, it would be a fun run. I ran a black one last month. As far as mods go, I tried to flag him down but he didn't want to chat after two runs. He did have a loud dual exhaust and a bov that was even louder.

Did you beat him?
They come stock with "dual exhaust" , just a y pipe really. And the bov is the first thing most of the srt4 guys do, their under 100$ so hard to say of it was modded.
But you kept up with a 5.0 so it should be interesting.
