Default A Sons Of Anarchy Spinoff Is In The Works

FX hasn’t completely turned off Son’s of Anarchy’s engine.
According to a new report, the television network is currently developing a Sons of Anarchy spinoff series with series creator Kurt Sutter. The new series, Entertainment Weekly reports, would focus on the motorcycle group known as the Mayans. The Mayans frequently clashed with Sons of Anarchy’s main SAMCRO crew during the original series, while also running several drug and prostitution operations. So, you know. Plenty of interesting fodder there.

Sutter, who also produced SoA, will reportedly executive produce the Mayans-focused spinoff, and is currently seeking a showrunner. The news follows Sutter’s hints of a possible Sons of Anarchy prequel limited series, which he teased at San Diego Comic Con.
Would you like to see a Sons of Anarchy spinoff starring the Mayans? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to ComicBook.com for the latest Sons of Anarchy updates.

‘Sons of Anarchy’ may have come to a poignant end back in 2014, but that’s not stopped talk about what;s next for the franchise, notably in the shape of spin-offs.

One of the most frequently rumoured threads to materialise its own series is one revolving around the Mayans - a biker gang who played a huge, recurring part throughout ‘Sons of Anarchy’. Now, according to Kurt Sutter (the creator of ‘Sons of Anarchy’), there’s definitely a Mayan-based series on its way.
Taking to Twitter, Sutter shared a teasing message to his 557,000 followers.

So it seems the new title for his new show will be ‘Mayans MC’ and , according to Deadline, Sutter is keen to be working with Elgin James to bring the new venture to the small screen.
“I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice, because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice.”
Rather than Sutter - a man who has obvious had success with ‘SoA’ and having written the script for Jake Gyllenhaal-starring ‘Southpaw’ - trying to fake a Latino authenticity, James appears to be the right man with the life experience that’ll elevate the show.

Deadline describe his upbringing and how he’d be able to represent a true-to-life depiction of Latino gang life.
“Homeless as a teenager, he was a fixture in Boston’s hardcore punk scene, helping found a multi-ethnic national street gang that targeted neo-Nazi skinheads and drug dealers. After spending a decade and a half in the gang, James left Boston for Los Angeles, where he entered the Sundance Institute Feature Film program.”

‘Sons of Anarchy’ fans will no doubt be excited to see how the ‘SoA’ world will expand beyond that of SAMCRO, and I for one an intrigued to see what stories it’ll incorporate and whether we’ll get any cameos from the likes of Jax or Clay, presumably if it’s set prior to or during the original show that ran for seven seasons.

Kurt Sutter To Direct Sons Of Anarchy Spin Off: Mayans MC

Yesterday, Kurt Sutter and FX officially announced a pilot order for the Sons Of Anarchy spin-off series, Mayans MC. Fans had been anxiously awaiting the announcement, and the network finally delivered.

According to the press release, Mayans MC will take place after the events of Sons Of Anarchy, and will relocate the entire franchise. Instead of taking place in Northern California, like the original series, Mayans MC will follow a charter of the club that is located along the California/Mexico border.

The story will follow a young man named EZ Reyes, who is trying his hardest to become a member of Mayans MC. He will be a prospect when the show begins, meaning he is 'pledging' to become an official member of the charter. While working for the club, Reyes will also struggle with his need for vengeance against the Cartel, and with the ability to gain respect from the women in his life.

These details are exciting, but they confirmed that fan-favorite characters, like Jex Teller, Chibs, and Tig Trager, wouldn't be on the series. However, the announcement did reveal that one vital piece of the original series will appear in the pilot.

Kurt Sutter, the creator of Sons Of Anarchy, has announced that he will be directing the Mayans MC pilot. Sutter mainly served as a writer and producer for the series, but he directed eight of the individual episodes.

Sons Of Anarchy spin-off recruits a Fast & Furious cast member

Fast & Furious Fast & Furious
Share Tweet 34

FX has agreed to take Kurt Sutter’s Sons Of Anarchy spin-off for a spin, ordering a pilot for the series that has yet to find its lead. Mayans MC will center on EZ Reyes, a Mayans prospect who will juggle “his personal life,” seeking “revenge against a Mexican drug cartel,” and whatever hazing the club throws at him. The search for an actor to play EZ is ongoing, but Edward James Olmos recently joined the cast as his father, Felipe, a “once-strong patriarch.”
Now Deadline reports that a Fast & Furious alum has rolled up to the production: John Ortiz, who costarred in two installments of the Vin Diesel-powered franchise. Ortiz will play the president of the Mayans MC South Padre chapter, Esai “Taino” Osorio. Taino grew up with his cousin Marcus, who became the founder and National President of Mayans MC, and they’re both as “smart as [they are] deadly.”
Sutter co-created the series with Elgin James, and the two will executive produce it for FX. No word yet on when Mayans MC is expected to premiere.

Richard Cabral joins 'Sons of Anarchy' spin-off

Actor Richard Cabral

"American Crime" actor Richard Cabral has taken a starring role in "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off pilot "Mayans MC."
"Mayans MC" is to focus on Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes, played by JD Pardo, a prospect in the Mayans MC charter on California's border with Mexico.

Deadline reports that Cabral will take the role of Johnny "El Coco" Cruz, a full-patch member of Mayans MC, Santo Padre, and a former Army sharpshooter.

Cabral received an Emmy nomination for his work in Season 1 of the anthology drama "American Crime."

Other cast members for the FX pilot include Edward James Olmos, John Ortiz, Antonio Jaramillo and Clayton Cardenas.

Sons of Anarchy’ Spinoff Shakeup: FX to Recast, Reshoot ‘Mayans MC’ Pilot
Norberto Barba, showrunner on all six seasons of NBC's "Grimm" has been tasked with directing

The “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff pilot “Mayans MC” is set to undergo reshoots and recasting, FX confirmed.
Norberto Barba, best known as the showrunner on all six seasons of NBC’s “Grimm” has been tasked with directing and executive producing the pilot.
Elgin James was originally tapped to direct.

The network will be recasting some key roles, although didn’t offer any details on which ones.
“Mayans MC” had already cast a number of lead roles, announced earlier this year. JD Pardo had been cast as the lead, E.Z. Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter. Edward James Olmos had been cast as Felipe Reyes while “American Crime” star Richard Cabral had also been cast as Johnny “El Coco” Cruz, a full patch member of Mayans MC, Santo Padre.

Other cast members include John Ortiz, Antonio Jaramillo and Clayton Cardenas.

The series is set in a post-Jax Teller “Sons of Anarchy” world, where E.Z. Reyes (Pardo), a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexico border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the woman he loves.
Kurt Sutter, who created the original show, co-wrote the pilot for the spinoff. “Sons of Anarchy” lasted for seven seasons. He has a long history with the network, eventually executive producing the police drama “The Shield.”

Sons of Anarchy Spinoff: Michael Irby to Star in Reshot Mayans MC Pilot

With production on FX’s rejiggered Sons of Anarchy spinoff pilot Mayans MC about to rev up, franchise creator Kurt Sutter has locked up his first new series regular. Sources confirm to TVLine that Michael Irby (True Detective, The Unit) has signed on to play the newly-created role of Obispo “Bishop” Losa, President of Mayans MC’s Santo Padre Charter.
From a broken home in the Salton Sea, Bishop was taken in by the family of his cousin, Marcus Alvarez, Mayan MC founder and National President. After a tour of duty in Iraq and one in Pelican Bay, Bishop was sent by Alvarez to set up and run the critical Mexi-Cali border charter. He is as deadly as he is loyal. (Anarchy fans will recall the Mayans as a force to be reckoned with, one that tangled with SAMCRO on numerous occasions.)

As TVLine reported back in July, the original Mayans MC pilot, which was shot last winter, was scrapped for creative reasons. Norberto Barba (The Bridge, Preacher, The Path) was brought in direct a new pilot. Several roles will be recast and, as is the case with Irby, a handful of new characters will be added. (I’m told Battlestar Galactica‘s Edward James Olmos and Revolution‘s JD Pardo, both of whom appeared in original pilot, will be sticking around for Take Two,)
Sutter co-created Mayans (which takes place after the events of the SOA finale) with Elgin James, and the duo penned the pilot script.

Sons of Anarchy Spinoff "Mayans MC" Casts Military Veteran Turned Actor Vincent "Rocco" Vargas

Sons of Anarchy spinoff, Mayans MC, undergoes revamp on series pilot, set to begin filming next week in Los Angeles with new cast member Military Veteran turned actor Vincent "Rocco" Vargas

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- FX's Sons of Anarchy spinoff "Mayans MC," the provocative action drama from co-creator Kurt Sutter, kicks off production next week in Los Angeles and has undergone several changes to include the recasting of key characters.

Actor Vincent "Rocco" Vargas

The recreated series pilot, set in the aftermath of Jax Teller's death at the end of 2014's "Sons of Anarchy" season seven, stars JD Pardo as EZ Reyes and Edward James Olmos as Felipe Reyes from the original pilot. In addition, the series has brought in Executive Producer and Director Norberto Barba (Preacher, The Path) to assume Sutter's directorial duties in order for Sutter to concentrate on the shows writing.
Among the talented group of actors cast in Mayan MC is social media personality and real-life Army Ranger (tours in Iraq and Afghanistan) turned actor Vincent "Rocco" Vargas (Range 15, Not a War Story), set to portray good-natured MMA fighter Gilberto "Gilly" Lopez. Vargas's character Gilly rides for the Santo Padre Chapter of the Mayans, under the leadership of Obispo "Bishop" Losa played by Michael Irby (True Detective, The Unit).
It has been a productive year for Vargas, whose credits also include next month's Documentary release of "Not a War Story," and the breakout film "Range 15," the first indie film to rank #1 on Amazon.

‘Mayans MC’: Raoul Trujillo Cast In FX’s ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Spinoff Pilot

Raoul Trujillo (Sicario) has booked a series regular role opposite Edward James Olmos and Michael Irby in Mayans MC, Kurt Sutter’s retooled Sons of Anarchy spinoff pilot for FX.

Set in the aftermath of Jax Teller’s death at the end of SoA’s seven-season run in 2014, Mayans MC will focus on the struggles of EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border.
Trujillo will play Che “Taza” Romero, Vicepresidente of Mayans MC, Santo Padre Charter. As a longtime friend of Alvarez, he helped set up the Santo Padre chapter on the border. He’s hardened by the deterioration of his hometown, but an infinite source of wisdom to the club.
Trujillo can next be seen opposite Liam Neeson in Hans Petter Moland-helmed Hard Powder, and in Hochelaga, Land of Souls directed by François Girard, Canada’s pick for the foreign-language Oscar race. On the TV side, he received a best supporting actor Critics’ Choice nom for Nat Geo miniseries Saints & Strangers. Trujillo is repped by Corner Booth Entertainment and The Gary Goddard Agency.
