Default Has anyone upgraded their PC lately? Hardware Chat

This section has been a little slow. Thought I would make a thread

We are wrapping up one of the greatest years ever for consumers of PC hardware. With AMD bringing the cores Intel has had to up their game and we now have 6 core Intel processors that are mainstream chips!

Did you upgrade this year?

Any Vega owners? I actually picked one up when it dropped to MSRP right when the 1070ti came out. Funny how that works.. I ended up paying $365 for a Vega 56 after $45 in rebates. (in which i've got $25 already)

It's currently listed for $599 I thought about flipping it on ebay along with my 1050ti and picking up a 1080 or a 1080ti.

It seems lots of youtuber's didn't know how to OC it right to keep it from throttling. People have found great performance increase by flashing Vega 64 bios onto the 56 and under volting it believe it or not. Has anyone here done that? It has a dual bios setup so it's not a big threat of bricking it.

Here's some number's with the bios flash, they're just synthetics but it will be fun to play with and tinker. And for $365 you can't the performance with 1070's going for $450-500.

I bought a 1080 Ti this year, but I'm bottlenecked in some games (BF1) by an i5-6600K. I'm not in a big hurry to upgrade, so I'm trying to be patient for Cannonlake and Ryzen 2.

Nice. Oh i know the feeling. I'm running a 2500k @4.8 ghz. Definitely keeping my eye on Ryzen 2 as well. If they can increase their IPC by 15% that would be pretty sweet!

Well, I dunno then. You must have a magical machine.

Mine hovers around 100fps with the CPU at 100% and the GPU at 75%, particularly in 64 player Operations.

I have built my boxes in the past but I purchased an Alienware Aurora R7 last month. i7-8700k at 5 Ghz and 1080ti. Small footprint compared to my old tower with i7-3770k and everything runs very smooth.

I built a new rig over the summer. Ryzen 7 1700, 1080ti, 16gb RAM, definitely the most badass machine I have built.

Paired a 1440p 144hz g-sync monitor with it and also do a lot of VR play on my Vive, it has been a beast so far.

Would love to get my hands on an 8700k. But I am in the 5 ghz club! Do you still have the 3770k? I'm looking for a used 3770k/2600k/3930k

I sold the old box to a friend for his kid. It is a solid chip...ran at 4.5 Ghz for 5 years.

Nice, I didn't think you'd go the Ryzen route. Pretty impressive they've been able to convert die hard Intel fans.

yeah it was cheap and if I dont do something now then I most likely wont " waiting for next gen" always gets me until I realize it will be outdated regardless in a year anyways

I have no clue what to do GPU wise, still on the 970 which has held up well but its obviously my bottleneck now for future games
