Default New bike

After making a 1700 mile trip to North Carolina on my 2013 Honda CB1100, I have decided that my 6'4" 220lbd self is a little too large to tour on such a bike.

Yesterday I put a deposit down on a 2009 Buell XB12XP. It's the Buell XB12X in police trim. That gives it a little higher seat, the high windscreen from the touring model, and loads of ground clearance.

It is in Indiana and I'll be going to pick it up next week.

I'll be selling the Honda for $6900 with 2900 miles on the ODO.

Does anyone know if there are any decent places to get a Buell Serviced in the area? I'll do most of the service myself, but as the bike ages I know I'll want a harley/former buell dealer with a service guy I can trust to help.

Any suggestions of dealers that have excellent technicians and Buell experience?

Nice choice. From what I've read they've worked out most of the bugs by 09, so I bet you'll be pretty happy with it.

I believe that Reno's in Martin City, MO is a EBR dealer. You might want to give them a call and see if they have any knowledgeable Buell techs.

EDIT: How did you like the cb1100 though, besides your size issue? I really like those bikes; I'm a sucker for modern classics. I've never known anyone that has owned the cb though.

The Cb1100 is incredible. I did a 658 mile day on it heading out east to ride the dragon. It got about 180 miles per tank at 80+ mph, no vibration, power is always on tap and it was a BLAST riding on the dragon.

I wouldn't be considering anything different if I were about 5 inches shorter. Even with it being a naked bike with an upright/sporting rider position, I would love to use it for commuting or touring if I just wasn't so damn tall.

Yeah, my only gripe about it is that I think it's priced a bit out of it's segment. I have read lots of great reviews on them though, and honestly I think they look amazing. I'd be interested to see how much they come down in price in a few years.

I paid under $10k for mine brand new in November 2013. If a guy can possibly get a 2014 model with the 6 speed trans and ABS for under $10k it would be worth it.. otherwise I'd look at used 2013's and not worry about ABS to get it down in the 6's.

The fit and finish on the bike is noteworthy.... I know I'm going to feel like I'm riding an inferior machine with the shaky twin on the Buell, but I'm hoping the ergos and easy wheelies make it a satisfactory switch. The honda is so damn silky smooth I'm going to miss it.

IMO $9-10k is right where they should be at. Honda motorcycles are always top notch. They make a great product, for sure.

Well, if you ever get tired of the Buell, just know that Triumph riders are cooler than anyone else and we are always willing to accept new members... And I think you would do just fine on a Speed Triple.

A clean used Tiger was at the top of my list, just couldn't find one I wanted less than 500 miles away. I'll own one someday though, and I agree the Triumph guys are the cooooolest .

I absolutely LOVE the Tiger. They're hard to find used, low miles, etc. Most of the people that own them ride the shit out of them and never sell them it seems.

I have heard that the BMW F800GS is a more capable off road bike, but the Tiger is way more comfortable and fun on the street. And looks cooler, IMHO

Buell, good choice! I'm rocking the 08 12R. Check out www.buellxb.com and there is also a buellxb website facebook group. There is a guy named Jeffery Robey who keeps track of all the XP's out there. Get with him and make sure he has your VIN so he can put it in his database. Sounds shady, but he is VERY knowledgeable in Buell and keeps track of the rare models.

Well, I rode from Sedalia to North of Indianapolis on wednesday on the back of my dad's BMW R1200RT. I'll never do that again. lol

Rode back 500 miles yesterday on 2 lane and gravel roads. I'm absolutely in love with this Buell. Perfect fit for me, fast, comfortable, capable, over 50MPG the whole time, I couldn't be happier!

Congrats. I looked at getting an EBR naked bike, but I chose to go back to my roots.

Still loving the Buell after a few days riding around town. It's not nearly as enjoyable in-town as my Honda, because of the motor... the honda is just plain smooth, while the twin is... well... a twin. But it is much more comfortable to sit on and I feel safer with the kids riding on the Buell since we are up higher and there is a backrest.

Just nabbed an EBR racing ECM which should help the bike out quite a bit in the low RPM's. Also some new tires, plugs, wires, comfort kit, high seat, and a spare belt to carry around with me just in case.

Bike should be totally ready for fall riding. I do my best work when it is below 60 degrees. Heated grips and my thermal liner in the jacket and I'm good for all day and then some.

So my steering head bearing and front suspension are all safe and good, no repairs needed. After taking the triple loose and messing with stuff, the popping sound is pretty much gone.

Hopefully the new ECM comes in today, I'm excited to get that in and go riding on sunday!

How popular was the Police version? I can't say I've ever seen one before yours.

I think they only made 137 of them. Not many differences, mainly color, taller windscreen, different seat, and extra wiring for the service kit.
