Default Fallout 4 VR

Comes out tonight. I've been watching this for over a year, it's the primary reason I even bought a Vive and built a new PC this year. I'm not sure my body is ready for a 100+ hour game played on my feet.

I cannot stand VR for any length of time. I hope this technology takes off so it gets better but as it stands now, I get far too claustrophobic and do not like just how immersive it is. I have to be able to look away periodically and acknowledge that life is still happening around me and jump in and out of a game easily. I just can't do that with VR. Let me know how this goes for you.

I'll definitely be posting my thoughts on it tonight, and maybe even streaming on Twitch.

VR in general I really love, ever since I demoed the Vive last year and immediately purchased one. I can't go back to playing Elite: Dangerous on a monitor now.

I do agree in that it can be disorienting after playing for a few hours then taking the headset off to realize I'm in a completely different part of the room. I've found using open-back headphones helps, and I'm working on a scheme using the "knock" feature of SteamVR to act as a proximity alert if someone is coming down the stairs to my game room. Syncing my phone to the headset tends to help too. The only thing I need a method to integrate is the baby monitor.

I've never done the VR thing (and probably won't) but I think Fallout VR would be intense. I too have heard complaints about feeling nauseous, claustrophobic, and disoriented in general while using them. Seems to be a widespread complaint.

Only got a couple hours to play tonight. Wow, just wow. Had an absolute blast, and I barely made it across the bridge out of Sanctuary.

There are a lot of negative reviews out there. Some people were expecting a full ground-up rebuild of the engine, and are just out there naysaying. But there are some legitimate bugs, like the base resolution being set to match your monitor resolution. This causes a lot of blur and makes text nearly unreadable if you have a 1080p or lower resolution monitor. I'm at 1440p and didn't really have any issues, I was actually really surprised when I took off the headset and saw all the negative reviews. Bethesda has their work cut out for them to get some patches out in the next few days, but the negativity appears to be the vocal minority.

Runs super smooth on my Ryzen 7 and 1080ti, no frame drops, and whatever dynamic resolution/shaders they are using really don't bother me (or are even noticeable) in the way I thought they would be.

I switched from teleport to smooth movement, haven't felt sick or disoriented - but I also have developed my "VR legs" and rarely find any motion that bothers me. I do find myself moving at a snail's pace compared to playing on a monitor, I'm actually creeping around corners, gun drawn, expecting just about anything to jump out at me as if I was really there. A radroach jumped in my face while I was crouching over a corpse and scared the living fucking hell out of me, I play in the basement and my wife heard me shout on the second floor.

All in all, I absolutely can't wait to get more playtime in.
