Default 03 ford explorer engine swap 4.0 v6

I bought an 03 explorer that needed an engine, sourced an engine through car-part.com. now I'm ready to put the new, used enfine back in, but I have a question.

My question is... the engine is from an earlier year explorer (same body style though), so like an 01, mine is an 03. Do I need to switch engine harnesses or can I leave the one that's on the engine currently?

Just select your year on Car-Part and if the 01 shows up you wont have to swap harness.

If the 01 doesn't show up then you might have to swap more than the harness, maybe sensors, TB or intake.

Didn't have to swap any of it.

That's good. I figured with the years so close it would be fine but you never really know when they change so it's always good to look it up before buying the engine.

Every engine we do, even if it's the same year we set them side by side and make sure everything is the same before it goes in.

Those GM Ecotech engines they used in about everything but they can be different.

I know subarus are weird like that. I put an engine in my mom's 00 outback, the replacement came from either an 02 or 03, and i had to swap the cam gears and crank cog gear from the old engine into the new one. Sensors were the same.

thanks for replying, appreciate it.

Only difference i noticed were the injectors were red in the original engine, and blue on the new (older engine). Plugs were different too, butt interchangeable.
