Default Save money by changing your oil

Some people think they are saving money by not changing their oil or by using cheaper oil because, oil is oil, right?

Saving a few dollars today is not worth spending thousands on replacing an engine.

This is out of a 2008 vehicle.

The sludge in my oil keeps it from leaking out of my truck.

I'm guessing that's a case of not changing oil or using the wrong oil.

What brands do you consider cheaper?

I have always cared less about the oil brand, more about the filter brand/type.

In my cars, I run Castrol GTX. BMW gets a Mahle filter, Jeep gets a Purolator or Wix (my go-to brands that are carried by most all auto parts stores).

n my bike I run Castrol RS with a KN filter. They're a bit overpriced, but for where the filter is located, the bolt head on the end of the filter makes my life easier, so it's worth the extra $$$.

I think that any car newer than a 2000 should be running a synthetic at least.

Most of the quick lube oil places use some pretty crappy oil. I've had companies come in my shop saying that they can provide oil as low as $1.25qt.

Here is the engine that went in as a replacement.
