Default Best credit cards for rewards

Who are you guys using for your credit card for rewards? I have a Hilton Honors credit card. It was a Visa card and they just randomly switched to American Express.

While I don't mind American Express when here in the US, it sucks when I went to Mexico in July and Ireland last week. Very few places would take it.

It did have a positive of no foreign transaction fee's when I was able to use it...

But I am looking to get a Visa Credit Card and seeing what everybody else is using and the benefits of them.

Chase Sapphire and SWA.. but the SWA card partly helps me because I’m an employee. If I weren’t, I’d probably just go with the Sapphire card..

I had a BOA rewards card. Solid for groceries and gas. Had it for 7/8 years now.

I picked up the Amazon Prime Visa for all of my amazon prime purchases, get 5% back on prime purchases, which I make a ton of.

Just got the uber Visa in May. 4% back at bars/restaurants, which is pretty solid.

If you travel a lot like I do, I like the SWA card. I get a ton of free flights from points and even hit companion pass this year which means my wife can fly with me anywhere I go for almost free...

I uses a Southwest Preferred Visa 99% of the time. crushes pretty hard on travel points.

The Amazon card is legit AF though from what a couple of my friends have said. And it's a metal card, which is pretty sweet

I put everything I can on my Capital One which I get 1.5% back. If whatever I am buying falls in the correct category for Discover then I get 5% back.

It really depends on what category you spend in and how heavy.

For instance:

For groceries AMEX BCP offers 6% back.

For gas BOA and AMEX BCP offer 3% back and if you have the Costco Visa it's 4% at all stations. Chase Freedom and Discover IT offer 5% for a quarter per year if it's rotated in.

For travel I would stick to whatever carrier or hotel you uses and their co-branded card.

The best strategy is to have a few cards for each category or brand. It's the best way to maximize.

Also, I want to add for you SWA heavy travel people. If you travel a lot I would look at your spend and see if the Chase Sapphire Reserve would benefit you more. Yes the AF is very expensive, but you get a good $300 travel credit each year, free TSA and global entry. Also you earn 3x points for travel spend and Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer 1:1 to Rapid Rewards.

If anyone has questions or wants me to calculate feel free. I'll let you know, I've been churning credit cards for 6 years.

I have the Chase, Amex and newly acquired Alliant Credit Union Visa. 3% cashback no strings attached for the first year and 2.5% thereafter. Also got a NFCU Flagship for the $1k signup bonus.

Thanks for letting me get my fix Julie lol

I almost exclusively use my Cap 1 quicksilver card anymore. Immediate 1.5% back on all purchases. Sure, some other cards offer higher percentages on some purchases, but there's always a catch, like you have to reach a certain amount, or use it on specific purchases, etc.

With the Capital One, you can buy a $2.00 coffee and turn in your $0.03 reward the next day.

Since I like to pay it off monthly, it's great for things I'd otherwise use cash for. Like my car insurance payment next month. I get about a $25 discount for paying in full, and I get another $10 back from my credit card immediately.
