Seems the Apple Event announcing new iPods will be Sept 9th. We'll probably hear about the updated Macbooks/Macbook Pros that day as well. Getting closer!
Sept 9th is official now.

The Apple Store is down and the Let's Rock event is happening now. What goodies will we be getting?

iTunes8 has already been announced; available for download today.

edit: Kind of disappointed with the event. Small redesign to the Touch, no Macbook update (which is what I am dying to hear!). I bolded the highlights below.

Quote:
11:00AM EST Apple Online Store is down! It is getting closer!!
11:44AM EST Several people in Barbarian Group t-shirts have been spotted outside the event. Hmm.. that would corroborate with the Magnetosphere iTunes visualizer rumor.
12:40PM EST T-minus 20 minutes to the start of the event.
12:55PM EST Reporters are filing into the hall with rock tunes bumping!
1:01PM EST Steve Jobs just took the stage. Energetic and skinny, we hear.
1:02PM EST Over 8.5 million songs are available on iTunes. 125,000 podcasts, 30,000 TV shows, 2,600 movies, and 3,000 applications for iPhone and iPod Touch. 65 million user accounts on iTunes.
1:06PM EST“iTunes is getting some new content”. First is High Definition TV shows. HD shows will be $2.99 for computer or Apple TV.
1:07PM EST iTunes 8. The rumored grid view is true. Genius playlists can be made with just one click.
1:08PM EST NBC is back!
1:09PM EST iTunes 8 will be available for download today.
1:10PM ESTGenius information gets sent to iTunes to give them your musical tastes. It’s sent anonymously, and is completely optional.
1:13PM EST Steve just played a John Mayer song. The internet l0lz.
1:15PM EST iPod has a 73.4% marketshare. Followed by 8.6% for SanDisk, Microsoft with 2.6 and other for 15.4%.
1:17PM EST The 80GB is being upgraded to 120GB, and the 160GB is being discontinued.
1:19PM EST New skinny nanos are true. Skinny, rounded, and a lot like the 2nd gen Nano. Portrait aspect ratio plus the exact same resolution display.
1:21PM EST They have added curved glass over the screen, new user interface, and an accelerometer!
1:23PM EST Shake to shuffle is true. Shake the iPod nano, and it will shuffle.
1:25PM EST 24 hours music, 4 hours video. Jobs says that it’s the thinnest iPod ever.
1:26PM EST Purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, and silver. $149 for 8GB; $199 for 16GB. Both are shipping today; 8GB’s shipping today, 16GB should be in stock by the weekend.
1:30PM EST New accessories including headphones and armbands. The headphone, actually, has an in-band control feature to have volume control, playback control (next, prev, play pause) from the button. There’s also a microphone on the back that works with the voice recording app. These will be $29 next month.
1:35PM EST Over 100 million apps downloaded from the App Store.
1:36PM EST New iPod touch has built in Nike+ support.
1:38PM EST Phil Schiller coming on stage to introduce some unannounced games.
1:39PM EST Demoing Spore. Moving to Real Soccer 2009.
1:45PM EST Now moving to Need for Speed Undercover.
1:48PM EST Both the nano and touch are arsenic-free, BFR-free, Mercury-free, PVC-free, and highly recyclable. Steve is back on the stage and calls the touch the “funnest iPod ever”.
1:50PM EST Touch battery life is 36 hours of music, 6 hours of video.
1:51PM EST The 8GB is $229, 16GB is $299 and 32GB is $399. All available starting today.
1:53PM EST iPhone OS 2.1 available for free for all iPhone and iPod touch users who are already on 2.0. Lots of performance and bug fixes within.
1:54PM EST Steve says: “Back to iTunes and iPod. We’ve got the best lineup we’ve ever had. We’ve sold over 160 million iPods. We’re ready for this coming season. And we really appreciate the chance to share that.”
2:03PM EST Looks like “Let’s Rock” is over with. Thanks for joining us!

Damn looks like I'll be getting an Imac sooner then expected. The wife spilled 20oz of tea all over her powerbook. I told her to let it sit shut off for a few days. She did and luckily it started back up, but I'm not sure we are gonig to trust it. Sadly her keys are all sticky from the sugar. lol. Wish I could use that excuse. She is using my MBP since I left that at home.

Sadly we don't really need another ipod right now. My wife has her nano, and I have her old 30gig and a nano.

Apple stock tumbles nearly 11% on false report of Jobs' heart attack
'Citizen journalist' report sends shares below $100 for the first time since May 2007

October 3, 2008 (Computerworld) Reports early Friday that Apple CEO Steve Jobs had suffered a major heart attack briefly sent company shares sliding, but prices rebounded after Apple denied that Jobs had been hospitalized.

Shares fell by more than 10% almost immediately after someone posted a report on a CNN user-content site claiming that Jobs had been rushed to a hospital after a heart attack. The piece on CNN's iReport.com, an unfiltered site that welcomes posts from "citizen journalists," cited an anonymous source who claimed that paramedics had been called after Jobs suffered "severe chest pains and shortness of breath." The report has been yanked from iReport.com.

Apple quickly denied the report, telling reporters that the account was "not true."

The company's stock took a dive on the news, dropping from its morning high of $106.19 to as low as $94.65, a fall of 10.9%. The brief dip under $100 was the first time since May 2007 that Apple's share price has slipped under that mark.

Apple's shares rebounded later Friday. As of about 12:30 p.m. EDT, shares were at $104.47.

Jobs' health has been an on-and-off concern on the part of some investors since June, when he appeared gaunt at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference. His appearance then fueled speculation that he was again ill. In August 2004, Jobs announced he had had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his pancreas.

In August, the Bloomberg financial news service inadvertently posted Jobs' obituary. News organizations typically write obituaries of notables while they're still alive and regularly update them so that the stories are quickly available.

At the time, Apple's stock fell slightly but, as it did today, later rebounded.

Oct 14th, 2008 Apple Notebook Event: CONFIRMED.

Invites were sent out today. This is coming on the heels of yesterday's new leaked images of the notebooks. One of the more interesting tid bits though is the report that Apple will be introducing a $800 notebook! Hell yes. I can't wait until next Tuesday!!

New Macbooks in 13.5 hours! Apple Store should go down around midnight-ish or so.

edit: Here we go! Took until 13 hrs before the Notebook event tomorrow for an ACTUAL photo of the new Macbook Pro to be released. I like it.

New Mac user checking in. I bought my first Mac this past weekend and am absolutely loving it. I've been using Windows since the 3.1 days and regret not switching sooner. It's amazing how much faster this thing runs without all the bullshit that a Windows machine has on it.

BTW, I picked up a Macbook Pro from NFM. It's the "old" style that they had discounted to get rid of them. There were only 3 left after they handed mine over.

The first post in this thread is very helpful! Thanks Sushi!

welcome to apple! I was in the same boat as you, got my first macbook about 2 months ago after using windows since 3.1 also. I'm loving it, I like the simplicity of things. I got the hang of most everything by now and then some.

The only thing driving me nuts is no right-click. I've learned the Command button thing (for Copy/Paste, font re-sizing, etc) but haven't figured out how to view Properties yet (such as viewing a link to where a pic is hotlinked from).

Early 2008 Macbook Pro.

Bombbuilder, Command + Click works to bring up the right click menu for pictures as well. After the menu pops up, scroll down to 'Image' then a sub-menu will open and click on 'Download Image to Desktop' or w/e it says. Forgot to say, you can use your regular Windows mouse as well and right click will work like you are used to.

I like on the new (aluminum) Macbook/Pros how you can set the bottom right corner of the track pad to act as the right click button. Pretty cool! I don't doubt that more manufacturers will start going to the button less track pad now. After using it for a week now, I'm surprised Apple was the first to think of this (or actually put it in to use).

edit: After re-reading your post, that isn't what you were asking. I'll look after class to see how to do what you are trying to do.

go to settings....

then trackpad/mouse settings, then enable double click through the track pad...

then from now on, when you want to double click just tap 2 fingers on the track pad... Fuck that CMD + click shit.

To view an image's link, you can right click, highlight 'image' and then click 'copy image address to clipboard.' Then paste it wherever you want; new tab, kcsr post, etc.

I'm sure there is another way, but that will get it done for the time being.
