Does USB-C or thunderbolt inherently have a benefit in comparison to 1/8"?

There's a reason floppy discs were replaced, there's a reason CD's were replaced, etc. I'm wondering if one of the formats that could replace the current headphone jack would actually have a benefit in audio quality, etc. in comparison.

not sure that it is decades better than a analog 3.5mm port but here is a article I came across the other day that had some info for future uses

http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/17/12...ement-idf-2016

some notes I picked up were.....

1. eliminating analog / digital conversion....doing so will eliminate hardware allowing a little thinner of a phone...im with Ryan, screw that

2. can handle multiple connections at once ( you have to use a hub however)

3. apparently it opens the door for more multimedia and video improvements

another article

And firewire. Although firewire was good, just stupid to not alao support USB.

Another from the modern era is only putting a type C on the air. Having only the one port means you need a specialized adapter to ever do two things at once.

The new features were first noted by AppleInsider, and Forbes helpfully broke them down into the following list:

New True Tone displays like the iPad Pro range, with laser based proximity sensors for faster response times
32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage tiers will replace 16GB, 64GB and 128GB
2x 12MP dual rear camera limited to iPhone 7 Plus, uses 1x wide angle and 1x telephoto lenses
Upgraded ambient light sensors on both new iPhone cameras for better low light shots
Camera flash LEDs doubled from two to four with warm and cool colours
3.5mm headphone jack removed
Lightning EarPods and a 3.5mm to Lightning headphone adaptor included in the box
Second external speaker and integrated amplifier for louder, richer output
Basic IPX7 water resistance – both phones can withstand splashes and full submersion for up to 30 minutes. Not quite Galaxy S7 level (one hour+), but close.
2GB RAM for iPhone 7, 3GB RAM for iPhone 7 Plus
Next generation A10 chipset sees CPUs hit 2.45GHz clock speeds and 20-30% performance gains
3D Touch 2.0 sensor with more distinct haptic feedback
Home button replaced with non-clicking touch sensor with haptic feedback
Antenna bands removed from the back of both models for cleaner look
Two new colours: dark black and piano black (latter in limited quantities for 256GB model); space grey colour option ended

I just pre-registered through T-Mobile's website. I would think you can now for AT&T, or for certain on Friday.

Off topic. Anyone have Sprint as a carrier? I don't talk much just text, fantasy football, occasionally stream and browse a lot. Looking to save money as my phone is tied to cable and I'm looking to cut cable.

We do. No complaints. Bill dropped $60/month switching from T-Mobile to Sprint.

I do have cricket, after trying 3-4 different services I stuck with it. If you auto-pay its $5 off and I have the 2.5G a month plan so my bill is $35. Only better deal is Fi, which my apps account doesnt work with. For $10 more you can get 5GB of data and international data roaming for free but I just pay the extra $10 for the month I travel abroad and let it drop back down to the cheap plan.

The sad part is I had AT&T in the same area with my previous phone and usually 8 is about all I got anyway (t-mobile was like 17), so the cap was pointless. 8 is plenty fast for my uses (maps, streamping music, youtube).

One thing I prefer about AT&T/Cricket is its rural coverage is great. May not be HSPA+ everywhere but I feel better knowing I can call 911 when riding in the mountains.

yep same plan here $35 a month, I dont need 50+ mbs on download for my phone, 8 is fine for me to check weather, twitter and email for work etc. I tried straighttalk and it was a nightmare so I just went back to cricket.

Same here. I was on ST with AT&T as well and had issues, liked the network but constantly had data drops and CS was garbage. My experience on Cricket has been much better and the few things I have had to deal with CS on only took a few minutes in a chat window.

I learned long ago that it is better to wait until Apple's second iteration of anything before considering purchase. But don't kid yourself, they'll sell a lot of these just like they did with the first Apple Watch. People flock to Apple regardless of price or functionality.

The only thing that seemed cool was the simplicity of pairing, other than that its bluetooth earbuds and that whole thing sucks. Even the 4.1 stuff. Its pretty good but not excellent. Guess through earbuds its sufficient but when you run it through an 11 speaker sound system it becomes apparent.

Let me get this right. 4.7", 1334x750 resolution 2gb ram and no headphone jack. $640.

Who can honestly say that it is worth $640?

Those specs dont really mean much as long as it works. The lower resolution is fine (nobody can really see pixels unless they are 4 inches away anyway), 4.7" would be a feature to me if they shrunk those bezels (I miss my Nexus 4) and 2GB of RAM might be irrelevant since its not really built around multi-tasking (plus that lower res screen asks less of the CPU, GPU and RAM).

The headphone jack and the NFC limitations (only being apple pay) would be the non-starters for me. I need a cable because bluetooth isnt good enough yet and I use NFC in Android a TON for simple sharing (its faster to share a contact, maps address or picture using NFC between two devices than anything else (pictures are slowish but its bluetooth so as long as you are near the person for a minute you dont even need cell signal).

seriously?

I have never spent more than 60 seconds pairing something to my phone in my life, and once I do it the first time, all I do is press the button to power it on forever after that. Skipping that one-time 60 second process is really a selling point to you?

How do they even charge, do you have to charge one at a time, or is there a cable that will tether them together? How many people will make it two months without losing one? They are a terrible product.
