Leaked photos/video of a working iPhone 7 came out today. Like guessed, it looks the same as the last two generations...except with the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple is turning in to a joke with their lack of progress. I've also been using the iOS 10 beta and it just seems like a step backward overall.

Rumors concerning the release date and new features of the iPhone 7 continue to circulate. Said to hit stores this September, the new iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus are rumored to include a number of new features that have people talking – for better or for worse.

I'm a little pissed about the lack of headphone jack. Maybe there's a genius tech reason, but to me, that's simply stupid.

Possibly, and we know USB-C is about ready to take over

Best news about the update will be a 32GB base now vs the stupidly low 16GB.

I don't get why anyone other than low end Android devices do that. It baffles me that the profit margin couldn't handle a 32GB model instead of a 16GB.

I wouldn't mind the 16gb base as much if they would allow you to delete default apps like Tips, Voice Memos, iBooks, etc that you don't want or use.

I had some trouble with my 16gb 6s plus about a couple of months ago where I ran down to only ~150mb of free space. I had to remove my music, pics, and all but my banking app. What ended up working the best was making an online back-up, doing a full phone reset, then restore from the back-up. After that I had 10gb of free space.

Either way, I too am stoked about the 32gb base size.

I was once a huge advocate for Apple. They innovated but at a safer pace than the competition, their OS was wonderful, and the products just work. However since the passing of Steve Jobs, the innovation seems to have slowed to a snails pace... The products are more expensive than ever, more companies are shifting to plans where you have to incur the full cost of the phone divided like a car payment... and so I'm getting dangerously close to leaving Apple for Android.

iTunes used to be an anchor, but with apps like Spotify I rarely buy music anymore as I would rather be able to stream lots of different stuff.

Disappointing to see that the iPhone 7/Plus looks to be an iPhone 6SS...

Because the phone NEEDED to be slimmer...

This is where I am at. I want to ditch Android and go to Apple, but thisis really keeping me from wanting to jump over to iOS. I switch between iPod and phone at the gym (surfing the internet, watching YouTube on exercise bikes, iPod for weight lifting and running), and also I connect to the TV remotes on the treadmills to watch the news and stuff on the TVs. I don't want to have to carry an adapter or second set of headphones to the gym with me.

There is rumor that an adapter will be included allowing people to use standard headphone jacks through the lightning port.

That's what I've heard as well, but again, I don't really want to carry around an adapter.

It seems like a petty argument (and I think that in some regards it is), but this is something I would deal with either at the gym or on my motorcycle (for instance, if my iPod dies) multiple times a week.

The current iPhone is damn skinny. Even with a case on it, it's skinny. I don't need, or even want for that matter, a skinnier phone. Especially if a consequence is the removal of the 1/8" jack.

The headphone jack will be going away eventually with all devices.

Yeah the only thing Apple is cutting-edge and innovative on are things that are pain for the user.

Not we were the first to give you retina scan tech, or we were the first to offer a water proof phone... nope, we were the first to take away your headphone jack and make you carry an adaptor everywhere.

Are you thinking it will be replaced by USB-C (in general; obviously apple is going to use lightning port beacuse they're a special snowflake)? Or totally wireless?

Because if it's USB-C, my point still stands and I don't want to have to carry an adapter with me to use the same headphones with different devices. Wireless is not something I am interested in, currently.

Well everything happens "eventually." But there are a ton of things that still use the headphone jack outside of the phone and wireless audio specs still suck compared....

My big beef is its all about going thinner and I dont want thinner. Give me a 9mm thick phone with a real battery in it, not a 6.8mm phone with a crap battery and an adapter I have to use in order to make my $300 headphones I am not in a rush to replace work.

There will be, but what does being slimmer get you if you have to keep a dongle around?

I think its two fold for them. Slimmer, which is a marketing gimmick. And then licensing. Lighting connectors are not a standard like the 3.5mm. So Apple cant charge you a fee to manufacture something that uses it. There is, however, a fee to make genuine lighting connector accessories. So now every headphone manufacturer is going to have to pay that fee.

That second one I bet is a bigger driver than most would admit. If you look at their history its always been about channeling more and more people into the ecosystem by force (unlike googles "give it away" strategy).

Just plug the damn adapter onto your headphones and leave it. Why so much fuss about an adapter? I use my headphone jack on my phone more than 99% of anyone here. I use it walking, driving, in the office, and sometimes at home. This is not a big deal at all.... Stop crying about it. If you have to buy an extra, who cares. Places will have them for sale dirt cheap a few weeks after the release of the phone. This reminds me of everyone crying about when they changed the charging cable size.

Yeah, and they originally replaced it with the zip drive, a proprietary option, before flash drives became common.
