This won't have any effect on GPU's will it? I've got an itch to move up from the 970 to a 1070..

Yes and no. Ryzen isn't the only product AMD is working towards. In Q2 they will be releasing Vega, which has some interesting rumors as well.

Ryzen is supposedly right around the corner, and it looks liek microcenter has intel dropping chip prices for the 7700K and even the 6700K

will it become a buyers market once again?

as for the Video cards.. not sure if i should wait or go for a 1070, as prices there have dropped to sub 400 as well.

then again AMD HBM cards are outrageous in price.

You really can't go wrong with the 1070.

I keep holding off on upgrading my 3570k rig, looks like I'll be waiting a bit longer to see how this plays out.

Just saw this today. I think a 1700 or 1700X is in my future... hell, even the 1600X would do everything I need to do by the looks of it. Hope they actually live up to the hype.

Pre orders on a CPU? Seems a bit odd...

I'm waiting for some real benchmarks, but I think Ryzen may find it's way into my house in March.

*EDIT* Just got the email from Microcenter. Already doing MOBO bundles too.

I'm going to try a pre-built system this time.

I've had several friends with great results from Cyberpower.

I do have to wonder if Intel has an ace up their sleeve and will drop their Ryzen-smashing thermonuclear bomb this year (if Ryzen truly lives up to the hype). The CPU market has been so stagnant over the past few years.

From the looks of it now, I'm Ryzen all the way - as long as single-threaded performance doesn't fall on its face.

Where are the available motherboards?

That will be a beast! Given the SLI 1080's I'm assuming you'll be running a G Sync monitor?

I'm actually thinking of holding off a couple months now until I know more about Vega as I have a freesync monitor now and kinda like the idea of not having to spend another 700+ on a g sync monitor which will put me in a proprietary position again with nvidia.

X370 boards are the ones to go after. The Taichi by ASROCK has my eye currently.

I want to do a white/black build and this is perfect.

Newegg has it at 199, so if microcenter does their bundle on this one, it's looking like a very affordable enthusiast board.

Already have a Gsync Set(3) of 1440P's 144's from Asus.

I like to save up and Drop heavy every 3 or 4 years. This i7 Rig I'm on is not in the least tired, but, it's time.

I could likely build this for about 700-900 cheaper, but the effort(s) involved at this point are not worth it. I want a quietish Water cooled rig that maintains low temps during long periods of use.

Multi-threaded is a key for me, I've got plenty of screen real estate I keep a few things cooking all the time.

Given that cost doesn't seem to be a big factor, maybe hold off for the 1080 Ti before pulling that trigger.

I think I'm going to hold off until April-May and see how things play out. Might go ahead and get my 1070 and put it in my existing machine, though.

Yup, going to wait out the R5's...may have higher overclocking head room and better gaming performance as a result.

Also, Microcenter usually does near cost pricing on CPUs so I don't expect that preorder price to stay that way for long. They will probably drop prices so long as they didn't sign some agreement with AMD to not reducing processor pricing.

I'll be an early adopter, but, no pre-order for me - I'm not taking the full plunge until I see some valid benchmarks on some retail samples.

but - once it's all good an validated - 1800X with a custom WC loop is happening, Likely going for the 1080TI's as I don't see AMD making the leap in both GPU and CPU silicon in the same year/engineering cycle.

The sun will shine on a dogs ass every once in awhile, so you never know.

I couldnt wait. It has been at least a decade since i built an AMD system. This one has me giddy. Risk and possible price lowering an all!

I will admit, I have not been this excited about a CPU/Chipset in a long time.
