Default AMD Ryzen CPU

AMD's new CPU looks to be faster than the new intel i7 7700k expected for release.

This is very interesting....AMD back in the CPU game after all these years?

Meh, I am an intel guy, always have been. I have a couple old friends from college that game on AMD tho.

I agree - Would be nice for AMD to have a chip that will beat Intel - it will stir up the competition and we'll all benefit from faster CPU's as they try and out do each other.

Completely agree. I am Intel and will stay Intel, but it will just push out cheaper, faster processors.

I think it is about time AMD got back in the game, forcing intel down a few notches in the process.

when I was first into computers AMD ruled the roost, then they lagged behind, BAD and never got the jump back to the front.

hopefully it will drive some of the new gen intels down, been forced to use AMD due to price.

2 years after I bought my 4690k, they're they same price. That's pretty fucking ridiculous.

Right? They need competition again and even if amd is not bleeding edge, good enough will be good enough for me to support them considering how little CPU seems to impact gaming these days.

I'm waiting until later this year to build my new rig. Hoping that either 1. Ryzen will actually live up to the hype and be incredible, and/or 2. Intel drops Kaby Lake prices due to actually having some real competition again.

Unless Ryzen completely blows, the winners here are the consumers.

Random thought, but AMD stock jumped 16% today. I knew I should've bought it when it was 1.83 a while back. Now it's around $12.

Great rundown of the new Zen architecture versus the Intel 14nm process.

I just read their R7 1700 CPU (8C/16T) which is gamer oriented has a tdp of only 65w...pretty damn good (if true), should have some decent overclock potential based on cooling needs.

If true, with the new bi-metal construction, you might be making the understatement of the year there.

TDP @ 65w on the 14nm platform means we have some Vcore to play with. It depends on how hardy the actual substrate is and how quickly we can evacuate heat, but, it looks like celleron 400A territory there...

(I dated myself with the 400A comment...)

Looks like the Prices are about 70% cheaper then the Intel counterpart. AMD swinging for a market share grab in the enthusiast segment?

Is the 1700 (non x) like a non overclockable CPU?

X vs NoX is Hyperthreading.

6700 vs 7700 in Intel terms.

That makes sense why that's the CPU targeting gamers. Hyperthreading useless in that regard. Pretty interesting stuff!

More Leaks - Clock speeds, and fill line up specs. (Ballpark prices also)

Looks like I was wrong - the X specification may mean some sort of unlocked variables in the CPU's

Check out the TDP numbers!

Yeah, read the X has to do with extra frequency based on better cooling. 1700x seems like the one to buy, as the rated TDP is likely as a result of that extra clocking...the higher voltage in that case is desirable since it gives you more headroom (assuming)

edit: scratch that...R5 1400x may be the gaming ticket. 65W, 3.9 ghz...possibly stronger single core performance for gaming.

So Ryzen info is leaking all over the place - I've been burning up the translate function in Chrome to read up on the latest info.

I'm officially delaying my new system build for Ryzen...

I really need to see gaming benchmarks at this point...as everything else I use my computer for, I don't really care about minor improvements or decreases from what I've got now with a 3570k @ 4.4, so as long as gaming performance is improved and is on par + or - with kaby lake, I'm down.

I'm sitting at the same spot with my 3570k. I will be building a PC in the next few months either way, but I'd really like to see some solid benchmarks if Ryzen can hold a candle to the i7 lineup for gaming, streaming, and recording. Something like the Ryzen 7 1700 vs the i7 7700k.

Looks like the R7's are the top of the line - the 7700 matches up versus the R5 1600/1500 combo -

If you keep it banded in the $ for $, which is where I think AMD is headed, You will end up with more cores/threads and a higher amount of L cache. running a Ryzen based cpu.

That's what I'm hoping for. The R7 1700 for the same price as a 7700k ought to be a killer machine if it lives up to AMD's hype.

Here is a leaked Benchmark for your requested set up.

http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-7-1700...hmarks-leaked/

Cliffs: Beat a 1000 dollar intel chip for under 400 bones. Little slower single threaded, 15%+ faster Multi.

Grain of Salt: All of these benchmarks, except one I've seen are with Engineering Sample chips. So we may or may not get the exact same results.

R5 1600 Benchmark Leak from CPU-Z

My 3570k single core is 1909 @ 4.4 ghz with half the multicore performance as this mid range Ryzen at stock clocks.

Fuck me...all aboard the hype train. Choo Choo.
