The only thing I've learned from this thread was that Focad needs another one in his life.

I don't know what's worse, that or a really, really push-up bra.

Probably the push-up, it takes you from excited to "where'd dey go" real quick. At least with that thing you'd have a nice surprise.

I don't know...I can spot a push-up bra a mile away. Ok, maybe not a mile, but once my face is right in there, I can spot it.

Minor update with slightly better pictures and a new interior pic showing the muted red leather in a better light. I got the windows tinted to 38% and installed body colored reflectors on the front bumper and gloss black grills. I love the way this thing drives. The low and mid range punch reminds me so much of my college roommates LX 5.0 notch with 3.73 gears from way back in the day. Above 5000 rpms, the N55 has some decent lungs and feels almost NA-like pulling nicely to around 6500 rpms. The exhaust overrun (popcorn sound when letting off the throttle in the lower gears) is pretty sweet. An M-Performance muffler will be ordered tomorrow. Xpel clear bra very soon.

My triumph does that on decel... honestly, I think it's why I like the bike so much. Screw the performance, looks, and feel. I like the noises!

It sounds even more ridiculous when it has catless downpipe as well.

Thanks! LOL

It's just "overrun" that BMW programmed in (i.e., squirting a bit of fuel on the exhaust stroke). Purely marketing and very common amongst the German, Italian, and British makes. I can adjust the amount of overrun depending which driving mode is selected and if exhaust valve in the driver's side pipe in open or not. The only time you get significant overrun is when you're in one of the various Sport modes and you're either revving in neutral or letting off the gas while in gear. When in gear, the overrun isn't remotely as significant except in the lower rpms of 1st or 2nd. Otherwise, the exhaust around town is a bit more throaty than stock and you hear a bit more turbo whoosh and the electronic wastegate managing boost in the higher rpms. With the windows up, it's still rather quiet and quite docile, even under heavy load going up hills. No drone or annoying bassy vibrations either.

Agreed. M3/M4's sound pretty terrible at most every rpm, especially WOT. They can be quite raspy and metallic sounding, and not in a good way. On start up, they're awful sounding. Like many things that BMW does, I don't know what they were thinking.

What are we talking about here... The E36 sounded fine, the E46 was known for rasp, which could be corrected with the right exhaust, the E9X was a sweet sounding V8, and the F3X M3/4 is certainly not raspy. The E46 hasn't been made in 10 years so certainly not "new."

Well the only one that sounds "awful" is a full catless exhaust on an e46.

I think the current M3/M4 sounds fantastic. I also think Dave B's car sounds fantastic. I love inline-6 noises, especially the ones with turbos!

I agree on both counts... as stated the only M3 that I think sounded bad was the E46 with a race exhaust; I mean they literally sold exhaust pieces named "rasp" pipes for that car.

the s54 can sound really good with the right exhaust system, IMO. Some of the options definitely make it sound like ass, though.

I had an E36 M3 with a Stromung exhaust and it sounded like pure sex. I never did like the E46 sound. E92 with an exhaust is also sex. F3X can also sounds quite good with an exhaust and can also sound like shit with some exhausts.

Now the old NA V10 M5/6 with a muffler delete is pure freaking amazingness. I would love one with a proper man peddle however most have the timebomb SMGs.

Agreed. Nothing like a big rpm turbo i6. The s54 has weird exhaust noises some times, but the intake noise is amazing.
