Default Engine replacement with Pics

A customer had the engine seize up on their 02 Accord. The balance shaft seal gave out quickly and they lost all their oil before realizing what had happened.

Here are before and after pictures.

One of the things we did was refresh the used engine before installing it. I see so many people have a used engine put in their car without doing the maintenance items that should be done while the engine is out of the car.

We did the timing belt and components, water pump, cam, crank and balance shaft seals. As you can see, this appears to be the original timing belt with almost no life left in it.

New timing components.

We also replaced the rear main seal along with the valve cover and oil pan gaskets.

We did other simple things such as plugs, wires, distributor O-ring. We replaced hoses, vacuum lines and clamps as needed.

The last thing we did was clean the engine compartment so we can see if there are any leaks that come about.

Compared to not running when it came in, yes, a lot better.

The cam seized up, the cam sprocket keyway was sheared. We initially thought the timing belt broke since the crank spun and the cam didn't.
