Danen, when it warms up we need some runs.

I think I've run you more than anyone so it will give me the best comparison of before and after.

Were you out building turbo domestics in 2000?

I'm down FOABRO

The GN world was big, it dwarfed the syty community. They had support from manufactures and aftermarket companies.

You know how hard it was to find someone that could tune obd1 turbo cars back in the day? Hell, the Kenne Bell chips for the Syclone are know as the KABOOM chip. It cranked the timing, boost, and fuel. It also turned off the knock sensor... They didn't even know what they were doing.

There were no turbo LS builds in the early 00s. Let lone cheap/budget/junkyard builds. It's that simple.

That's a negative, I wasn't even in highschool.

To be honest I believe that a lot of the older gear heads didn't want to stray from what they knew. I mean isn't that how it still is? People copying other peoples builds because they know it works? Someone had to put in the time/money to do it, and once more and more people caught on that you could make big power out of a turbo as well (not just imports) it became a norm.

They were around, but so rare...

One of the faster street cars in KC back in '99/'00 was a turbo'd third gen V8. He's a member here, but hasn't posted in a long time. He was still active in the street racing scene not that long ago.

He pulled Scuba Steve's black Supra, and the other "fast" guys back in the day.

11 sec cars ruled the street back then, and he was probably in the tens.

Edit: Not trying to argue with you. You are pretty spot on

I never changed shit. I said I bet within a year, and that they were regularly hitting 800 within 9 years. Not my fault no one around here can read.

You can't compare aftermarket options of most 50K+ cars to those half that price.

There's a reason mustang, cumaro, etc. have so many options. Production numbers , popularity, and accessibility to those with challenged pocket books
When you get into lower production cars, the mods are harder to get and cost more. It was like that with my 951. Bigger turbos and all that were more expensive than other cars. There were only a few mainstream companies who made parts for them. Mustangs and Camaro's there are millions of. So R&D goes way down.

As far as common to see ls shit running around with that kind of power, I don't know, but certainly before 9 year mark.
Maybe the LS1 wasn't, but I know the LTx was...

This thread went from beating an LS7 C6 to comparing Inline 6 turbo engines to LSx engine. Neat.

JW I heard a rumor that Camaro's came stock with Nitrous back in the late 90's. Shiiiiii
