That's pretty impressive.

What will you have into (dollar wise) by the time you're "finished"?

At what point do the short blocks need an upgrade?

From my limited knowledge, it seems to me like they wear out (worn rings/bearings, etc.) quickly under big power and aggressive tuning.

I bought most of my parts lightly used. (Downpipe, jb4 tuner, intake, charepipe). That all was 700 iirc. Like 2 years ago I got all that. FMIC I got new for 600. Axel back was 150 used. Turbo I have currently was 995.

That's 2445 for what I have now. Add in wheels at 1150 and I'm at 3595.

New fuel pump setup will be 440. Meth kit will be 530. So I'm at 4565 after that.

Stage 2 turbo is 2500, but they are giving full return price for the stage one so its only 1505 to upgrade.

Gives me a total of $6,070.

I've been very lucky to have someone help me save on install costs which had made the turbo upgrades possible. Everything else I have done myself. I'd say under 7k to take a 300/300 car up over 500/500 is pretty good. All while retaining every luxury feature and complete DD ability.

There are N54 (twin turbo) guys that have gone to a big single and are making well over 700whp with no issues. As long as the AFRs are in check and all the other parameters are on point then there havnt been any engine issues.

I'm sure bimmertech can weigh in more on that front but imo these engines are very very stout and seem to love the high rpm runs as long as fuel and air is right.

I havnt personally seen what you are talking about about worn out rings and bearings. Maybe that's a previous gen thing not related to the N54/N55 but again, bimmertech will know the engine tolerences more than me I'm sure.

Yeah, $7k isn't bad at all for that power gain.

I don't know, maybe I've just heard a lot about smoking and oil consumption which may not be the short block.

New big power Motiv ST kits have been on the market for a couple of months now. We will really see what the N54 can do once those kits are pushed to the limits. In my case, the automatic transmission is the biggest thing holding people back from making big TQ numbers. There really hasn't been a great solution figured out yet. DCT and MT cars should be capable of upper 700hp to mid 800hp no problem on stock block and internals.

N54's wear out rings with agressive tunes but it generally takes 70k plus miles. Ive not replaced an n55 for bearing or ring wear. Just isolated/random stuff. They have held up very well.

From what I've seen is exactly that, the N55 is all around better but just can't make the same power currently.

I think getting the N55 into the 500s in both whp and wtq is gonna be great. Should be an upper 120s mph trap and an absolute roll monster.

At this point you'd have to hate your bank account to buy an n54 over an n55. Just for the price of fixing the common issues on an n54 you could have a fbo pure stg 1 n55.

Anyone done an ewg retrofit on a vacuum wg car?

Not that I've seen. Interesting concept though.

Wouldn't you need a full DME reflash or upgrade to account for that?

Also on the N54 vs N55. As much as I love how reliable they have gotten the N55, I would still LOVEEE to have the money to get an N54 with a big single turbo. Ideal setup for me would be a 2013 335is with FBO and a big ass single turbo making 700+ whp. All the niceties of the newer cars but the power capabilities that come with having the N54.

Would need about 60k for that Id think. 40k for a good example car and 20k for all the upgrades.

Might just need a custom vo and run the wires. I don't know if ewg cars are all bn2020 cars though. Sounds like a hassle the more i think about it lol.

Definitely not interested in being the first to try and troubleshoot the mess that that sounds like it is.

Fuel pump and meth kit is all I want to tackle in the near future. Like probably early March.

The turbo kits?

They are relatively new compared to the "9 year old motor". It's taken a while to get to this point.

Upgraded twins for that engine have been around a while but getting to the point they can get a 300/300 engine up over 700/600 with a "kit" that doesn't require each person doing their own R&D? That's pretty good and doesn't happen overnight.

As for his tranny, the 07 or maybe it's an 06, isnt a DCT. Those have a tranny that doesn't have much development on due to DCT being the preferred platform for the auto guys.

If my goal was to go fast in a shit car I would.

Just playing, they are nice for what they are. My cousin has one that makes almost 700whp and is on 100% e85 and his complaint is that his interior is falling apart and it's only a couple years old. Says buttons and knobs are falling off and broken and trim is just shitty in general.

I'm sure it's like most cars and that one example isn't the overwhelming norm but that's his experience.

I just havnt really been a sedan type guy and don't like the look of the coupes.

Blowing up an engine is different.

He traded it in hurt pretty badly. Low compression in a couple cyl iirc.

Lean is mean right? Ha. That's the only time these engines have had issues is running wayyyyy lean.

Not sure about his interior though. Mine is 3+ years old and still looks great. My leather is holding up perfectly and so are all the trim and seals. Buttons, knobs etc all like new still.

I'm not hating on the V, just isn't what I'd prefer to have. Great bang for the buck. Can't deny that.

The e9x cars didn't get have DCT unless it was an IS car. All AT cars will have the same problem.
