Im wondering how this is going to work for those of us that rent lofts downtown. If the fiberhood gets enough people registered but the building owner doesnt want to pay google to install fiber I am assuming it will be all for not at that point.

My underlying hope is that things like Google TV, Netflix, Hulu, etc. lead the way to everything being on the internet, then customers can customize their own channel line ups. (Cable companies relish the day they can step out of the way & not be middle men for the content providers - the networks - and that's only the tip of the iceberg of benefit to those companies).

Summer academy is the #1 school in Kansas and has a national rank of #69 which is located near the ghettos of KCK.

I am going to do the same thing in my neighborhood.

What happens if you meet the goal is your neighborhood automatically going to get it?

Has google actually started to build out the fiber network at all?

The neighbords with the highest amount of interest will be given priorirty. Google has been laying fiber for the past year.

Once your neighborhood hits "green" that means you are going to get service, but service rollout will be based on ranking.

here is the top 40 as of 10 mins ago

Pretty much. Its mainly the KC urban core areas only right now.

The farther you are away from basically downtown the longer the wait from my understanding.

Without ESPN and HBO amongst other networks the television portion seems lacking in terms of lineup.

A lot of people don't seem to care. Plus, lineups change all the time. HBO is in bed with the major service providers so they will be the last to roll over.

If it wasn't for major cable companies threatening to pull HBO, I could probably get a standalone HBO Go subscription.

Its crazy right? So many people would throw 15-20 a month at hbo just to have access to their shit yet they don't allow it. i don't get it. They have the most pirated tv shows on the internet.

I can't imagine GF going very long without having these networks, ESPN especially. They'll get it. It's only a matter of time and I suspect that the time will be short.

Anyone want a roommate? I'm seriously considering moving out if my roommates don't agree to get it. Not to mention the big hold up might only be not having the big 10 channel. SRS?? Girls......

Understood. Though in the case of ESPN and the KCMO demographic I'd be willing to bet you are a minority in how you feel about the network.

Not to mention ESPN is owned by Disney who subsequently owns ABC and other popular networks. They are a powerful voice themselves. There's a reason ESPN is a part of even the most basic cable packages out there.

Like BuddyLee mentioned, you're in the minority with that opinion. Sports are the main reason people put up with cable company's BS anymore.

What's your point? Are you guys really this dense? Google TV will have ESPN, and HBO, and all that other crap. They just announced it and started negotiations like last week! There's already news reports that all the other networks are jumping onboard. I'd be surprised if it's not all inked out by the end of next week!
