Not unless they build another hub in joco, the article I read said they wanted to bring more than just the service to olathe.

I know that Overland Park was mentioned (they said it would be beneficial) I want to get a TWC statement on this I know at one point Sure West said they may as well just sell out to Google

Newer neighborhoods take longer because the majority of fiber is laid underground, so my part of Olathe will be slow, time consuming and expensive. The older parts where they can go with aerial fiber/attach it to existing power lines will be faster/cheaper.
They haven't even started to build out KCMO yet. I will be a little pissed if Google Fiber starts on KC North or Olathe before they complete the project they promised first.

Why can't they work on multiple projects at once? Start on the north and south and work toward the middle?

That's what I'm thinking. I'm assuming they're using local contractors for this.

One of my girlfriends friends was working for a company that got contracted out to do the Fiber installs or oversee it or something. Anyways her company laid her off because they started planning and spending money towards installing fiber in Johnson County and Google went with another company. That really has nothing to do with it other than 100% yes they contract the work out.

Would be a nice move for Google. My Brother In Law lives out by me in Olathe, just south of K10 and Woodland. Neighborhood is still building and SureWest ran fiber straight to his house already.

Yes, Google is using contractors for this. They'd be silly not to with having no experience with this. There are at least two companies doing design/construction work last I knew. Not local but hiring local workers.

The company that is all over KCK is called Atlantic. They are the ones burying the fiber lines and what not. See them all everyday digging or at quik trip. As for the actual home install I believe Is actual google. I finally saw it in real life at a house I was at yesterday. They do a pretty good job

So if sure west laid fiber last summer in Olathe, will google just be able to purchase space from them and use that? Or will they contract out for all new fiber?

The reason they aren't starting at the south end and north end and working to the middle is because Google had a nationwide contest on who gets it first and KCK won the contest and shortly thereafter KCMO was mentioned as getting it 2nd.

That would make utterly no sense to start in JOCO and the Airport when KCK won the contest and is the sole reason KC has Google Fiber anyways. Not to mention all the different cities that make up the metro. Every city has to approve this, give Google the utility right of way, etc.

Other areas of the city are being worked on to stay ahead of the curve. The process for getting the fiber run to the houses is not a small one.

Saw someone walking down the street by my loft last night carrying the google fiber equipment boxes but didnt think to stop and ask what they were doing.

My area (Business District) isnt slated for construction until the summer of this year. Makes me wonder why they had the equipment already.

I know for a fact some work is getting done downtown at the moment. Don't know if it is just prelim construction (scouting to make sure plans were designed correctly) or if they're actually starting to run fiber. Either way, downtown is starting to see GF action. North KC will be next...probably fall at this point.

Ive see a lot of AT&T trucks laying what appears to be a combination of plastic piping and cables. Not sure if they have been outsourced by google.
