Default Google Fiber went live?

Featured: Google Expanding Google Fiber Service, 1Gbps Internet For All

Google Fiber was first announced back in 2010 and was an ambitious goal to bring blazing fast Internet speeds at an affordable price to everyday normal people. The goal? Bring Internet speeds 100 times faster than what Americans currently have access to thanks to a 1Gbps fiber-to-home network. They had thousands of interested communities try and apply to be the first to gain access, however, only one would be chosen.
The city that was chosen was Kansas City, Missouri and the network went live last year. This was the testing grounds and testing phase and it appears that Google is actually in the process of expanding Google Fiber to other cities. The tech giant is currently hiring for positions relating to the program. Rory Maher, an analyst with Capstone Investments, looked at over 2,000 different job listings from Google, Facebook, and Twitter, to see if there were any trends.
When it came to Google, it looks possible that they are looking to expand Fiber to other cities. One position they were hiring for was an Inside Sales position in Mountain View, California for selling Google Fiber to small businesses. In precise words, “the position would be tasked to build a team to sell a national broadband network.”
Google has always wanted to make the Internet faster for everyone, not only by speeding up search, but also giving more weight to websites that load fast and downranking sites that load slow. The idea of a 1Gbps Internet connection is an exciting one. Currently, the fastest service on the market for everyday consumers is Verizon FiOS which has plans all the way up to 300Mbps.
Fingers crossed, we all hope that this service comes to more cities and at an affordable price!

I wish they would at least release rate information.

Have they even finished installing the fiber optic lines yet?

I thought it was both? Or at least KCMO immediately after KCK?

KCMO was added a long time ago ... right after the KCK announcement.

I stand corrected.....

I also would love to kiss off TWC, my cable bill is astronomical anymore, it's stupid how much money I'm paying for TV, and there's still nothing on to watch!

It will be nice if I can get it. Clear has worked well but I'd love to have Google Fiber.

Time Warner is shitting rocks:

http://gizmodo.com/5925574/time-warn...-spy-on-google

Time Warner Is So Scared of Google Fiber That It’s Paying People to Spy on Google

According to this flyer, Time Warner Cable is asking people in Kansas City to share "tips, rumors and rumblings about Google construction or launch activity" about Google Fiber for a chance to win money. Yeah, Time Warner is so worried about Google Fiber that it's asking people to spy on Google so it'll have a better idea of how screwed Time Warner is.
As you may know, Google is rolling out some thick pipes in the form of a Gigabit fiber network in Kansas City as a sort of experiment on ultra fast Internet speed. Time Warner, if you're lucky enough to have never been a ripped off customer of theirs, is an awful Internet service provider and cable company. Google Fiber, with its theoretical 1Gbps speed, will very probably murder every crappy ISP in Kansas City, so TWC wants to collect intelligence on it by crowdsourcing spies.
Smart move? Maybe. But even if Google came to TWC with all its blueprints and told TWC exactly what it'll be doing with Google Fiber and how to pull it off, I doubt Time Warner is capable of saving itself from its own ineptitude.

Google Fiber GFHD100 'IP set-top box' breezes through the FCC, doesn't say where it's headed

The future of Google as a hardware manufacturer (beyond its purchase of Motorola) continues to be shrouded in rumor and mystery, but the GFHD100 box that just popped up in the FCC's database is very much a fact. As seen in the pictures, it's sporting a Google Fiber label which suggests it's a part of rolling out video services to the Kansas Cities, and also reveals it's being built for Google by Humax. The MAC address shown in the picture is registered to Google directly, while the test report calls it an IP-set top box, equipped with WiFi, IR, USB, Ethernet, HDMI input and output and an Ethernet / coax (we assume MoCA?) bridge, which sounds similar to the boxes favored by Verizon's FiOS. Unfortunately our only view of the device itself is from underneath so there's not much else to glean about its abilities or possible relation to the hardware Google has reportedly been testing around the country, but you can hit the source link below to dig through the documents yourself or check a close up of the label (we tried the QR code, it appears to be for registration but it didn't work) after the break.
